The field is wide open for her. If ever she had an opportunity, it is this year, and I honestly hope she makes the most of it.
Actually the year you are describing is last season and we all saw how Nationals turned out.

No doubt. However, according to all reports, she isn't healthy. Foot injuries are incredibly difficult to heal according to both Bradie's coach and posters on this website. If Bradie was healthy, I think there is very little doubt she would be outscoring everyone else in the USA.Healthy Bradie won’t have much trouble being national champion again.
Good call this.Everyone seems to be totally overlooking Mariah. We’ve seen her current short once and that was at a US competition. I know she has been inconsistent in the past but look forward to seeing how she skates in her GP assignments.
In effect, Mariah moved up by doing nothing. HahaI think some are underestimating Mariah. She has been more consistent than Amber, for sure, and except for a couple of skates more consistent than Karen. Karen puts together a really good skate every now and then and the between isn't good. I still think Amber skates with her head and not her feet and I'd be surprised if she's in the top 5 at Nationals. Alysa is still a baby and you're comparing her with senior skaters that have been at it a lot longer than she has. I don't know what she'll do this season but I think she is definitely the future of US ladies figure skating. She needs to polish up her presentation and get a few more skates under her belt. I honestly haven't seen Isabeau or Lindsay so can't comment on them. I've said before that Alysa reminds me of a young Michelle Kwan - all the talent but needing finesse.
Sadly, I have to agree with this. A foot injury in skating takes forever to get over and the risk of re-injury is very high if you get back on the ice too soon. I feel horrible for Bradie as she fought so hard to get her Title back. The only good news I could give to Bradie is that outside of Alysa and Lindsay, none of the other eligible skaters are looking that great right now.No doubt. Bradie, Mariah, and Hanna Harrell are assigned to CS Golden Spin of Zagreb (Dec. 8-11)!

It's probably about the deadline for registration and a "just in case". Jason is on the list for Zagreb, too, and he has an excellent chance of making the Grand Prix Final.Mariah Bell? Is that a vote of no confidence that she won't be at the GPF since that's the same weekend, even though she has yet to even compete.
She was forced to peak early because she had to win the third spot at Nebelhorn. I think Alysa needs a break before nationals. That is exciting.
I'm also glad Alyssa isn't assigned to this. I feel like she just needs a break from travel. She seemed stronger at the start of the year and I wonder if a break from competition will be the best thing.
Alysa is just 16, she has plenty of energy. It's just her recent GP layout is too ambitious and too risky. If she rolls back to her more conservative Lombardia layout, she will be just fine. Alysa beats Young You for over 20 points at Cranberry cup with her conservative layout. If she aims for 2A instead of 3A in SP, she could win Silver at NHK trophy. Big risk comes with big reward but it can also come with big loss. That is exciting.

Let's hope Bradie doesn't withdraw. If she was really back from injury then I would've thought TomZ or she herself would've posted something on Instagram by now.Bradie, Mariah, and Hanna Harrell are assigned to CS Golden Spin of Zagreb (Dec. 8-11)!
Very exciting for Hanna; this will be her first international assignment since 2019.Bradie, Mariah, and Hanna Harrell are assigned to CS Golden Spin of Zagreb (Dec. 8-11)!
I would be thrilled if Bradie actually skates at this event. Still no posts of any kind from her team. Not even crossovers. It would be nice just to see her stroking across the ice and looking strong. Sadly, I don't see it happening.Let's hope Bradie doesn't withdraw. Alysa has to try ambitious layouts to challenge the Russians, and GP events are a good opportunity for her to stress test those difficult elements before the Olympics. I would expect her to hold back on the difficulty a bit at Nationals and try to go clean, so NHK was her last chance to try out some things like the 3Lz-3F combo late in the program.Alysa is just 16, she has plenty of energy. I saw the video of her LP from September (she only did doubles). The program looked really nice and I will be sad if we don't get to see it at Nationals (and Olympics).I would be thrilled if Bradie actually skates at this event. Tom Z posted Bradie jumping triple lutz's and triple-triple combination a couple of weeks ago. It was on his instagram story so it's probably disappeared but it was linked in this thread (here's a link to another site that screengrabbed the video). Still, there's a difference between being able to land jumps on their own and being well enough to integrate them into an entire programme and the stamina for an SP and FS.I would be thrilled if Bradie actually skates at this event.
