With a total score of 210.35, Mariah has guaranteed herself a spot in Group 3! This is huge for her Olympic hopes. This is also the second highest score that US ladies have gotten all season, behind Alysa's 219.24 at Lombardia, but even ahead of Isabeau's scores at the JGP. Mariah started the season weak at Cranberry Cup and with constantly changing programs, but she's had quite a good showing on the Grand Prix by playing it safe and forgoing triple-triples. I'm still not sure she can contend for the US title considering the panel at US Nationals will be less harsh on underrotations, which is where Mariah has a comparative advantage since she underrotates less than her direct competition, but the Olympic team as of now would be Alysa, Mariah, and Karen.

Edit: Whoops, got Alysa's Lombardia score wrong
I hope so. Mariah has really been through it. A few nationals where she was hosed (IMO), then her melt down - And as I've said before, it really doesn't matter who we send outside of Alysa-None of our ladies are medal contenders, all of the top five are pretty much equal, so I would rather see a team of people who have not already gone to the Olympics.

Worth reiterating, IMO:

- Top 3 at 2022 Nats also will be included at least in Group 3, regardless of their international scores.

- Alysa is not yet 100.00% guaranteed to be in Group 2, which also requires Top 5 placement at 2022 Nats.
(Yes, I do think it is highly likely that she indeed will be in Group 2 after the conclusion of Nats.)

After what Mariah just delivered, with scoring a 140.98 at a GP event with no triple/triple combos, and bringing back her lovely Hallelujah program, she is definitely showing she has a great shot at the Olympic team. Well done, Mariah, and keep it up!

Mariah just scored 210+ without a triple triple knocking out the gorgeous Gubanova out of season best 24, despite Gubanova skating clean and executing three triple triples 😭😭😭; So, first, I have to mourn that…. But, Bell really has great skating skills and her score is something Alysa wasn’t able to exceed during the GP circuit. What Bell has going for her are high and clean rotated triples. If Bradie doesn’t recover in time, I really do now see Bell, Liu and Chen as the Olympic team.

Dayum Mariah, I'm so glad she brought it together today. I could see at IDF that she has the quality but she just didn't have the speed for good PCS that weekend. she improved heaps on that front today though and got well deserved high pcs. In fact, I think her skating skills are still a bit underrated, she's impressive live even without lots of speed.

The jumps looked good today too. Hoping she can slowly work her way towards having a reliable 3-3. I can see a great rivalry with Loena in the future as I think they have some similar qualities.

Really the panel in Russia was very forgiving today (let's just compare that Wakaba Higuchi scored lower than Mariah with 3A and three 3-3 combinations in France one week ago), however I think this event was used to boost Mariah and she delivered.
With Bradie out of the competition, I think the Olympic team will be Alysa, Mariah and Karen, wishing that Alysa and Mariah would do the team competition and get an Olympic medal.

I sill think if Bradie can come back and skate fairly clean at Nationals then the team will be Alysa, Mariah and Bradie which i would mind. Karen hasn't really shown anything this season and is the most beatable.
If Lindsay skates clean programs at Nationals, I don't think Karen will make the team. "If" Bradie Tennell does not skate, I could see a team of Alysa, Mariah, and Lindsay.

While I know people tend to want to keep health issues private, in Bradie's case I wonder why her team hasn't said anything. Either they are hoping she can make it to nationals and aren't sure, or she won't be coming to nationals. Or is she secretly planning to come but keeping it on the DL so a lot of buzz/pressure isn't created? While I know we are not owed info, some transparency for the fans would be appreciated.

I agree. She is the defending National Champion and to keep all of her fans in the dark like this, doesn't give me hope. I know her team doesn't owe us an explanation but, If she were landing 3/3's in practice, I think Tom would have posted them by now.

Congratulations to Mariah on her 4th place at RC - and the 210 score - all without a triple triple! Her positive GOEs and PCS really carried her to that 140+ score. I think she was even shocked by her score, I know I was.

Now I am rooting for her to make the team, she is now 25 and she will probably look to retire at some point soon - she deserves her Olympic moment. And she was so wise to change her programs - both fit her so much more than the Lady Gaga and the Both Sides Now program. (How time flies, I still remember her Titanic program from several years ago, when she was with Kori and Rohene).

Good luck to her at Golden Spin and US Nats!

Luckily they didn’t deduct points for every bar of ice cream she stole. Would have ended with a negative score. Haha

That‘s why you need to separate yourself when you have the chance. The healthy Americans didn’t light the world on fire and so the veterans see that they still have hope.

Mariah has to be applauded though. She was a complete afterthought 3 months ago, but what a difference 180 days makes.

And you know that that fighter Bradie is doing her best to get back. She knows it is still there for the taking.

Of all the years for the committee to stay out of it, this is it. Whoever makes the top 3 should be the team.
Pretty much true. Because there isn't some international star who might have a bad night at Nationals. Alysa is the strongest, but the rest are all pretty equal, and none stands to make much of an impact at the Olympics. So just pull a 'gymnastics Tom' and select 1-2-3. The only issue is sometimes at Nationals the judging is a bit biased/reputation judging, and certain skaters are boosted a bit.
