I've barely heard of Katarina DelCamp, and I'm American,
Ah, your loss then. ;) And IMO, it's the U.S.'s loss that Katarina now represents Great Britain! At the least, she will have an opportunity to further develop and to represent a country that doesn't have as deep a field in ice dance, or in any figure skating discipline (when historically England had a great deal to do with the genesis of the sport).

To each their own in terms of not liking a young skater's Instagram content, per previous poster's input. (Katarina only recently began posting again -- she'd taken a hiatus from Instagram after splitting with Ian). The little I know about Katarina, I find her charming. As I mentioned earlier, Katarina still has a lot of developing to do as an ice dancer. Ian was the stronger partner when they were paired. Her new partner, Billy Wilson-French has a lot of dramatic flair, but he's still learning too as a junior. In terms of personality and presence, I think they will make a good match. Billy trained at college as a dancer off-the-ice.

Sure it's understandable if you don't follow junior ice dance that Katarina DelCamp would not be a familiar name. Ian Somerville has been around for awhile though, and he was successful with his earlier partner, Elliana Gropman. So, I guess that means if you've never heard of Somerville or DelCamp that you don't follow junior ice dance or maybe you aren't that interested in ice dance generally. DelCamp & Somerville competed both domestically and internationally. Sure it isn't possible to be familiar with every skater around the world, especially those coming up in the lower ranks who aren't prominent, and especially if you never watch junior events. I had never heard of Billy Wilson-French either until it was mentioned that he had partnered with Katarina. I knew nothing about Katarina until she partnered with Ian Somerville, whom I was very familiar with, due to his success with his former long-term partner, Gropman.

surimi, you have my thanks as well for your work on this thread! :thank:
I'm sad to see when the saying of, "No good deed goes unpunished," unfortunately is applicable to your efforts. :(

It is completely justifiable for you to make polite requests that posts in this thread include disciplines and countries.
If I am adding something to the thread about Skaters X and Y, and it is obvious to me what their discipline and countries are, it is hardly asking too much of me to include these basics in my post.
It is wrong to put the burden on you to click around to check for this information.

Adding my thanks to you, @surimi, for your good work on this thread. I can't imagine that anyone would think you would or even could be familiar with every pair and dance couple in the entire sport, in every country. I really appreciate having the information gathered here. I check with the thread every time there's a new post. :thank:

:thank: everyone! I am glad that you guys find the lists helpful.

You've never seen or heard of Katarina DelCamp before?

I think I have seen her name mentioned on GS, so yes, in this respect I have heard of her. But I wasn't aware of her partner, country and category. It is similar for lesser known Russian teams for instance - too many people there to keep a track of, especially if my specialty are Japanese singles skaters ;) Thanks for the new info anyway!

^ 'ballroom training' - I suppose they're a dance couple then? And 'Sheffield' - they represent the UK, I would assume? ... Guys, really, I am happy to edit in new teams and split teams, but I would appreciate if you let me know the categories and countries. I don't know all of these skaters, usually I recognize the names but I have no idea about their country and category. So if you do, please let me know in your posts, so I don't have to find out through vague social media posts. Thanks.

I agree with el henry that even within U.S. skating, DelCamp has not been a standout (understatement of the year ;)).
I am a big fan of U.S. ice dance (including juniors), and I for one would not use the words "delightfully engaging" to describe her skating or 99% of her Instagram content. (I no longer follow her Insta account.) JMO, of course.
I have been a fan of Max Gart and Ian Somerville -- or else DelCamp would have been quite forgettable to me.
l will not miss her at U.S. Nationals. (FWIW, I have seen her compete live in junior dance at three different events.)
I would be the first to say that my "knowledge" of non-U.S. dancers is hit-or-miss. I too had never heard of DelCamp's new partner. 🤷‍♀️ #sorrynotsorry

@surimi I also feel compelled to mention that I really appreciate your efforts! You do such an excellent job with the thread, and I check anytime I see that's it's been updated.

I've been following skating a long time (oh no - I'm old! LOL), and I don't know every skater out there. I think many people here are knowledgeable about a lot of skaters, but most of us have areas that we know better than others. Being able to discover new skaters - or new programs - is part of what makes being a skating fan fun.

Thanks @surimi. I'm also still learning my way around GSF, so I'm not fully aware of the efforts that certain members, such as yourself, contribute to various parts of the forum. I've learned something new as well through this discussion, and I thank you. I'll try to remember to identify skaters' disciplines, etc., in any future posts.

Indeed @moonvine, this thread can often be disappointing, in terms of learning about heartbreaking splits. But hearing of new pairings is always hopeful. ❤️

While watching the SD in GP Italy, I heard our commentator mention that France's dance couple Marie-Jade Lauriault and Romain LeGac have retired. Can anyone confirm?

Looking at the entry list of Italian National Championships, I see the debut of a new couple in Ice Dance:

Leccardi Elisabetta/Dalla Torre Mattia

Both were single skaters.
I was kind of shocked seeing this. Both skaters had some good potential in Singles, but didn't seem to go very far. Elisabetta is pretty young, so she can have some good time to develop through Ice Dance. I wish them the best of luck, and I hope this will be a nice transition.

Do we happen to know who their coach/coaches are?

Mattia was kind of a lost cause in singles, he was beautiful to watch but couldn't jump to save his life, i think this is the right choice

But what about Elisabetta? I loved her as a singles skater.

It's not often that a skater hooks me the first time I see them. And even rarer that a skater who is competing at Novice level manages it. But she did. And as she has got older and come through the ranks, I have continued to love her.

Granted, she has had a lot of setbacks in recent years. But, I was hoping she would have a resurgence and get back to showing that promise I saw in her all those years ago.

That said, she could still have a resurgence, only in Ice Dance rather than Singles skating. It wil be interesting to see how she and Mattia get on. As a fan, I am delighted that she isn't just calling time on her career. But, as her over-protective adoptive Daddy, it is going to be hard getting used to seeing a young guy with his arms around her!

All the best Elisabetta and Mattia!

Interesting...I have seen both Mattia and Eliabetta skate when they were singles. I remember even seeing Mattia landing a 3A (only once and at the Gran Premio Italia last season) but @elektra blue is absolutely right that the jumps were his nemesis. They are both beautiful skaters to watch though in their movements, their elegance. This is really promising!
