I've heard rumors that Eteri already has had Olympic program ideas for Anna, Sasha, and Aliona in mind for years. Do you guys think that there's any truth to those rumors?
Probably. That Romeo & Juliet that Sasha/Daria did was on the table since 2017 according to Rozanov.

So who do you think will emerge from this camp with lots of vids of them landing ultra-c? Will Maiia be the first to land the 3axel before Daria, Alyona or Anna? Or will Kostyleva get the 3axel first? I can't wait for the practice vids!!! Maybe Kamila will start hitting every quad?
Or Daria Sadkova? She has a very good 2A.

I actually wonder if we're going to see any big practice clip at all in the off-season. Maybe they're going to hype us to death not sharing anything so all the new ultra-Cs come as a complete surprise at test skates. That PR strategy would not surprise me, considering team Tut now has approximately all the big contenders (with the notable exception of Liza) there's no need for a "whose school is the best" contest anymore ^^'

After the season has started it's a different story though. Urghhh, I can't wait until september é.è

I'm trying to strategize a SP, and wonder what exactly the rule is for jumps after the halfway point. Do you have to first do two jump passes for the third pass to get the bonus? Or can you do the second jump pass after the halfway point and get the bonus and then no bonus for the third pass? I'm just wondering if that would be wiser. Have the combo the second pass but with the bonus. The third triple would get normal value. That way if you mess up your combination you have an opportunity to try again. (Trusova would have been helped by a program like that at Worlds) I hope that makes sense. But I have a feeling that the first two passes are non-bonus, no matter where they are in the program. Thanks.

From the rules:

In the Short Program and Free Skating of Single Skating the Base Values (but not the GOEs) for jump Elements started in the second half of the program will be multiplied by a special factor 1.1 in order to give credit for even distribution of difficulties in the program. However, only the last one jump element executed in the second half counts for the 1.1 factor in the Short Program, and the last three jump elements for Free Skating. Each factored Base Value for these jump Elements performed in the second half of the Program will be rounded to two decimal places. The second half commences in the middle of the required time without taking into account plus or minus 10 seconds allowance. However, in cases of up to 3 minutes interruptions (Rule 515) the factor 1.1 will be used only for jump elements which were started in the second half of the program, but prior to the interruption.

Thanks! I wasn't sure, but it makes sense. But is that 10% extra really worth it? Sometimes I wonder. Trusova might have won Worlds had she did the combo in the first half.

I saw on twitter that Kamila will be skating to Tokyo Drift for her SP, which seems wildly unsuitable for her skating style.

Like from the Fast and Furious movie? Well if they go with that at least we are wildly wrong about the Olympic season being all safe choices. If that song is accurate is completely different than anything she's done and agree its really unsuitable to her skating style.

First 2 passes in the SP are not bonus; Trusova has been back-loading her combination for several years it was a fluke error at 2021 Worlds; if it becomes a consistent problem I'm sure her coaching team will adjust her layout to move the combination to not be the last jump.

I hope not. This season's SP is perfect and showcases her strengths. And she hasn't done it for an international competition yet either. I'd rather see her go back to Girl and a Ball than learn something new. I'm not wild about Bolero to be honest, and would rather see a new LP.

It is true that during the 18/19 season Alina didn't backload her 3Lz+3Lo combo in the SP and still achieved the highest score for the ladies SP without the 3A. On the other hand he current top ladies (esp. top russian ladies) are so evenly matched that even a half a point can help. Like when you have Anna vs. Liza, Liza has 3A and they both finish somewhere aroud 80-81 points. In that moment it surely helps Anna to have this cca 0.5 point advance. And going to the free skate from the first place can give you some psychological adavantage (at least to some athletes, others may prefer to chase over to defend).

As for the success rate, I don't think it is that much affected by whether it is landed as first or last jump for those ladies, they are too good. It also sends a statement - look, I am not afraid of the challenge.

I agree with this attitude and believe it to be a very good strategy, at least for Anna it has proven to be. But Trusova has been quite pragmatic about her SP content over the past few seasons - adjusting away from the -Lo combo when it does work, taking the 3A in and out depending on practice. She and her team(s) knows that the Free skate is her best avenue, and for the SP it's about minimizing the deficit. I don't think she needs to take away the combo as her third jumping pass - she's way too good at it to be necessary, but they've adjusted in the past and maybe that's a strategy that works for her?

I actually think that saving the combination for last in the short is not worth it. The risks are too high. For Anna, I would think it's a better strategy to do a 3F+3Lo as the second jump and save the 3Lz as the bonus jump. She will lose 0.49 on that, but that's nothing when you think of the bigger picture. Also, if she misses the combo, the plan B could be a 3Lz+3T.

Missing the combo, like Sasha did at Worlds will be a 10+ points loss. That's a lot going into the free. I don't think anyone should take that risk.

And as for Loop combos, as much as I love them, I think they are criminally underscored by the ISU. It is SOO much harder to do a 3Lo instead of 3T in combination. And all you get is +0.70!! It's insane.

Well for skaters without a triple axel in the SP they need to get as many points as possible to keep the gap between themselves and the skaters with triple axels close, and while it is very risky the skaters that do it very rarely miss the combination in the SP. Similar to how you think the ISU under-values the loop combinations, for the SP where a skater has 1 opportunity for the bonus jump element, I wouldn't hate if the ISU increased the bonus in the SP if the last jumping element is the combination its very risky, if you mess up on the first jump and can't save the combination you don't have a second shot.

10+ points is really optimistic, between Nationals and Worlds the value difference in scores on the combination was 9.68 points and Nationals is usually inflated scores for the top skaters.

I also saw that, but I also saw people saying it's a joke.

If it's not then dear god, what programs are we going to see this season........

(Though if anyone was getting an upbeat program, I'd say give it to Aliona, because it's clear she likes stuff like that, or maybe even Anna, who has been doing some incredible dancing recently)

Aliona is passing her final exams in her school. I would say it’s like SAT in the US, you do those exams when graduating from your school and applying to Unis (called USE in Russia). She will probably join the rest as soon as she’s done.
Though in the US, you take them earlier. By now most US students have already known which colleges they're going to for some time now.

Also, while both exams might have the same purpose, the SAT's and ACT's are now optional in the US. Even a lot of the Ivy Leagues aren't requiring them.

I have no idea what the Tokyo Drift's music is like, but we did learn during summer that Kamila likes karting or stuff like that, if I recall. That would be fun and unexpected x) But I do think it's a joke. Kamila is the heavy favourite going into the season, along with Anna, so I don't imagine they would give her a program that would be too out of the box.

Saw this, I think this pretty much solidifies what most of us figured that Zagitova doesn't have intentions to compete, apparently she's going to be performing in an ice show from July 1 to September 30th.
