Unfortunately I'm not sure how strongly C/Y are favored for the 4CC spot - I think the competition could be close with Bratti/Somerville, Pate/Bye, and even Wolfkostin/Chen.
We will get a chance to have a look at how well C/Y and B/S will perform as they both are entered for the Golden Spin of Zagreb. I’m thinking C/Y is the stronger team having more years skating together than B/S as a newly formed team!

I thought they scored a bit low, but they did well as a new partnership in their first comp.
Avonley's toepick got caught on the ice in their character lift, which affected the GOE. They also just lost a lot of levels in general, not just on step sequences, but also on the rotational lift (which was a level 1) and the combo spin (which was a level 2). Regardless, this should be more than enough to qualify them for US Nationals, so it'll be exciting to see them there and see how they stack up against teams like Pate/Bye, Cesanek/Yehorov, Bratti/Somerville, and Wolfkostin/Chen.

For me, the feel-good 🤗 moment of the day was seeing the ever-supportive Max Gart -- Avonley's first partner, who now is a student at Georgia Tech -- come over to the FD Kiss and Cry.
Serendipitous 🎉 that he was able to attend the new partnership's first competition.

... a partner who is very strong and better than Kolesnik ...

Better?? Let's just say that I do not share this opinion. 🤬 🤐

But don't get me wrong. I am pleased for Avonley that the next phase of her career had a successful start. :)

They were good especially Smirnov. Very visible difference in skating skills but they should get better as they continue skating together. This a win win, for Avonley getting a partner who is very strong and better than Kolesnik and for him to have an opportunity to continue skating and in USA.
I am sure Avonley/Vadym would have been incredible though if they were still together. Vadym is only 20, and Grigory is 24. I think Nguyen/Kolesnik could have won the Olympics. Vadym's a great skater, and last we saw him compete was as a junior. Grigory has some years of Senior experience. But unfortunately, N/K aren't skating together anymore. But Grigory is great skater. I hope this partnership can grow really strong through time. N/S are already skating well, so they are off to a nice start with great potential.

I'm still sad about Avonley/Vadym ending their partnership. They had so much potential, they had a great connection with each other, they were very well matched, and they complemented each other's skating. I fully agree that they would have been a top team in the 2022-26 or 26-30 quad. But it was not to be :(

I still am very sad about their partnership ending, and that was about a year and a half ago! They were amazing, but it is not there anymore.😢 It was nice to see Avonley compete again, but a shame we don't get to see Vadym.

Trailer for the Olympic Channel Series On Edge featuring the Gadbois training group is out now.

Chock/Bates and Hubbell/Donohue both feature quite heavily in the trailer. Hawayek/Baker are nowhere to be seen.

Also, it seems like H/B will not be withdrawing from Rostelecom since Kaitlin posted on her Instagram story about being excited to go to Russia next week.

For those who might be a bit down over some of the ice dance judging we’ve seen today, here’s something to lift your spirits!

The best part is that they are not wearing black!

Of course they are nowhere to be seen. They aren’t a priority.

Kaitlin also posted on her IG that they were excited to go to Japan.

This is a strong start for the new team of Bratti/Somerville, beating W/C and M/S, who have had more illustrious junior careers.

Golden Spin assignments are out, and Hawayek/Baker, Cesanek/Yehorov, and Bratti/Somerville are all assigned. Hopefully H/B will be healthy enough to compete at Golden Spin. As of now, H/B are also still assigned to Rostelecom. If they can compete well at both Rostelecom and Golden Spin, they should be able to establish themselves this season to try to keep their position as US No. 3, but that's very contingent on how they've been recovering from injury. C/Y and B/S will be an interesting matchup, since both teams will be looking to try to get that last 4CC spot.

Disagree. Actually Somerville has had a very illustrious junior career, competing internationally since 2016, and notably doing very well when he was with Eliana (who sadly never competed again after they broke up). It's not that he hasn't been illustrious, just not doing as well following the split.

This is M/S's first international season together (although Lorraine did pretty well with Quinn for many years, since she was what like 13?) and it is W/C's second season competing internationally. I wish B/S well, but really it is no surprise that they are in there where they are. Just like G/P, no surprises. Good skating. I am also looking forward to seeing Molly and Yehor at Golden Spin. I've been a fan of Molly's since she was little and I'm enjoying watching them grow now.

I feel compelled to point out that Lorraine McNamara/Quinn Carpenter won Junior Worlds together—I consider that a step above “pretty well.” Lorraine is a top-notch skater IMHO :)

Liked Eva Pate / Logan Bye at Warsaw Cup especially the Hunger Games FD where it was well received. Loved Logan’s reaction at the finish!
Young teams seem to use material that resonates with their generation; though compartmentalized, from the skaters perspective it can be iconic.. this is their FD from 9/18/21 US International Figure Skating Championships where they earned a bronze medal

Somerville had a long junior career, but it's not really comparable to Lorraine McNamara, who is a junior world champion, junior world medalist, 3-time Junior Grand Prix Final qualifier, 2-time Junior National champion, not to mention multiple junior grand prix medals. Wolfkostin/Chen aren't done with their junior career yet, but they were Junior National champions last year, they've qualified for the JGP Final this year, and are certainly favorites for a medal at Junior Worlds this year. Somerville's highlight in his junior career would be several third place finishes at Junior Nationals.

How come the US didn't send Nguyen/Smirnov to Golden Spin instead of Bratti/Somerville or Cesanek/Yegorov? Haven't B/S and C/Y already done a Challenger event? This could have given N/S a chance to get minimums for 4CC.
