The second of seven events of the 2021-22 Junior Grand Prix series will take place in Courchevel, France, from Aug 25-28, 2021, in the Patinoire du Forum. Initially, the event was to be hosted by Skate Canada, however, due international travel restrictions regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, it was cancelled and moved to France. The ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series consists of seven international junior invitational events during the fall culminating with the 2021-22 ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final in December 2021.

Aha! So Stefania is actually old enough for Juniors now.

That is a pleasant surprise. I thought she still had a year or two to wait yet. (Which just shows that I am still as bad at judging ages as I have always been...)

Can't wait to see her make her Junior GP debut!

Trust me, she's good! ;)

Thank you for the heads up. Does CYP stands for Cyprus? Nice expansion of the sport, if so!

Yep, Stefania has been competing for Cyprus for a few years (as I'm sure you have realised, she is Russian). And she is looking VERY promising.

She only moved up to Advanced Novice level last season, and won a Bronze Medal in her first competition; a Gold Medal in her second competition; and was 5th in her third competition. And it is not as if they were small fields - there were over 20 skaters in each of those competitions.

Unfortunately, none of Stefania's programmes from last season have been uploaded to YouTube. HOWEVER, I have been able to find her within the livestreams from Skate Helena, the competition she won (1st in SP and 2nd in FS), and where she achieved her absolute PB for the SP and overall.

2021 Skate Helena SP
2021 Skate Helena FS

Cyprus has actually been competing in figure skating for nearly a decade. It started with some Russians that lived on the island. This generated interest with the locals, and within a few years a whole pile of home-grown skaters were coming through. But, over the past few years, they have all reached the age where education takes precedence. And there aren't the same number of kids coming through to replace them.

Fortunately, in the same time frame, some very good skaters that were born overseas have joined the team:

  • In Seniors, there are 2 girls who were born in America, but who are from Cypriot families - Emilea Zingas and Marilena Kitromilis.

  • In Juniors, there are 2 girls who were born in Russia, but who are now based in Cyprus - Ekaterina Luneva and Stefania Yakovleva.

So, things are looking rosy! :)

Nooooooooooooooooo!!! :bang: :bang: :bang:

Just checked the Provisional Entry List again to see if Stefania Yakovleva's ISU Bio has been created yet, and discovered that she has been removed. Presumably because she is Russian and has had a Russian vaccine.

I'm stupid. It didn't even cross my mind that Stefania would be in the same position as the skaters that are actually representing Russia.

This stance the French government is taking of not recognising vaccines that have not been approved to be used in the EU is causing a real headache.

At the time that this came to light at the start of July, all that was talked about in the UK was that the French were recognising AstraZeneca vaccines that had been manufactured in Europe (branded as "Vaxzevria"), but not recognising AstraZeneca vaccines that had been manufactured in India (branded as "Covishield"). And because the UK used both, everybody who had got an AZ vaccine had to check the batch number on their card to find out which they had recieved (thankfully, mine were not Covishield numbers).

But, we didn't hear about other vaccines being affected. (Typical British media, only focussing in on the parts of the story that directly affect us).

I know that I am of the belief that nobody should be travelling at all. But, at the same time, it's not right for a country to refuse to recognise people as being vaccinated just because the vaccine they received is not being used in that country's vaccination programme. It's sending out the wrong message.

I really hope that Stefania is able to get another slot later in the series. (KoŔice would have been handy, given that her fellow Leader club skaters Angelina Kudriavtseva / Ilia Karankevich are already entered there).

The Entries / Results Page is now up:

http://www.isuresults.com/results/season2122/jgpfra22021/

And so are the SP Time Schedule PDF's.

Ladies:
http://www.isuresults.com/results/s...JUNIOR----QUAL000100--_StartListwithTimes.pdf

Men:
http://www.isuresults.com/results/s...JUNIOR----QUAL000100--_StartListwithTimes.pdf

Ice Dance:
http://www.isuresults.com/results/s...JUNIOR----QUAL000100--_StartListwithTimes.pdf

So, kicking off at 15:00 CEST (13:00 GMT / 14:00 BST) tomorrow afternoon with the Ladies.

By the way, the segments are in the same order as last week, and the Short Programme segments all start at the exact same time as last week. However, the Free Skate segments start at slightly different times to last week (Ladies FS starts 30 minutes later on Friday; while Men's FS and Free Dance both start 30 minutes earlier on Saturday).

Right, now that I've got my times sorted for tomorrow, I'm away back to watching last week's Men's FS (I've just finished the Warm-Up for the final group).

Hope this helps
