Wow, I feel for her, that's going to be tough. I felt like they were on the rise, but the ice dance field is just so crowded in Canada I can understand why someone would decide to call it a day, particularly if they had aspirations for another career. I often thought they were underrated. I hope she can find someone. It would be a shame for such a talented ice dancer to have to finish her career before she's ready.

The issue for Haley is that I don't see anyone really who could step in and create an equivalent partnership to the one she built over so many years with Nik... at least, not in Canada. Maybe someone can enlighten me on this topic... The good news for her is that IAM is probably the best place to be for such a difficult task.
She and her partner had the most beautiful, long, matching lines of any ice dance couple in Canada. They were very well matched physically. This alone will be hard for her to replicate, let alone finding someone to match her skill level. I think it would be a shame for Canada if she was forced to country hop to find a partner, but I certainly can't think of anyone off the top of my head who would be a match.

jacob richmond is the right profile in terms of lines and height.. but he is with emmy bronsard now. and well, of course, he is not at the level of Nik.. but he is still young.. that's the other issue for Haley... who will be at that level and a good match? unless poje wants to unretire

mixed day at the rink today :
BB : small mistakes in the Tango pattern dance were very costly... sitting in 4.. but pretty close to 3rd... 3 points behind 1st and 2nd... I have faith in their gorgeous free dance but it's disappointing.
Kaiya skated the best she could and earned 10th place tonight. Bravo ! That means two spots for Canada next year ! YAY !
Kaiya didn't fall nor pop jumps but was hammered by Mr Amano who said NO to her lutz edge and gave her some queues...
in any case, she delighted the homecrowd with a stellar performance. Very happy for her.

I'm sure Nadiia and Peter are disappointed with how the season ended, but it's still a medal, after all.
Wesley, sigh. I'm sorry, but he brought that on himself. He was never going to beat Miura; all he had to do was skate clean with triples and he'd be the silver medalist.

Wesley just needed to sub his quad toes by double axels and that was it... even just one double axel... Wrong strategy from the coaching team.... especially considering he has had issues with the quad toe all season.... it's really unfortunate because he did do very well except for those two pops....and now he must be deflated while he could have gained some momentum for next season... sad for him.

Fiona has been assigned to the Coupe de Printemps, a competition I don’t recall Canada regularly sending skaters to in the past.
Looks like the juniors that did not get a JGP assignment but did well at nationals are being selected ???

perhaps... Rose did get a JGP assignment but also did do very well at Nationals.

? One person ‘Mr. Amano’ decides if jumps are clean? Is there only one person who decides levels too?

The technical specialist makes a call. The assistant tech specialist will confirm the call. If they disagree, the technical controller will make the final call.
Shin Amano is well known for his expertise. I don't think he did judge Kaiya harshly : he is consistent in being demanding and I think it's right. Kaiya has to make sure she works on her lutz edge and rotates her jumps better in her combos. The technical panel also decides levels for spins and steps.

ISU announcement regarding Youth Olympic spots, as determined by Junior Worlds. Canada has:
- 2 spots in dance;
- 1 spot in both singles categories.
The IOC lowered the age ceiling for boys’ participation in the partnered disciplines, which is going to make filling pairs in particular very challenging.

When Shin Amano is the technical specialist, skaters go "oh no", but the technical controller will go "oh nice" as they know, the assistant will never dare to disagree with "Mr. Button"
