I remember when S/F were seen as the 'next ones' for Canada. In their 2nd year together they won the silver medal at 4CC and got to go to worlds. And at the time people were thinking they could be world top 10 in the next few years. Well they have never made it back to worlds. And although they have got back to 4CC they have not medaled again.

Category change for Lucas Tsuyoshi Honda and Sae Shimizu (JPN) - From singles to pairs. Lucas wants to try and do both (just like Sumitada Moriguchi).

Reminds me of Johnny Johns. In the 1970s, he was top ten at Worlds in both pairs and dance with different partners (in different years). As a Little League baseball player he pitched both right- and left-handed, as a skater he jumped in both directions.

Probably now that the technical difficulty is so much higher it would be almost impossible for someone to equal Ken Shelley's achievements, but in 1972 he was US Sr Men's champion, 4th at the Olympics, and 7th at Worlds. At the same time, he and JoJo Starbuck were 1972 US Sr Pairs champions, 4th at the Olympics, and won bronze at the subsequent Worlds. I still remember the shock waves in the skating world a few years before that when word flashed around (without the aid of instant social media) that Ken had had a potentially career-ending injury. At a pool party, he went to run into the house for something, didn't see that someone had closed the glass door, and crashed through it, severing all sorts of stuff in his leg. Obviously he made a full recovery!

Maybe the old saying is true here (no shade, as we had this problem recently with e.g. German athletes):
Follow the money..?

oh lord... i am ambivalent about this return to Hungary for Papp. I wish her the best.
My first thought too. I was afraid that she returned because of no other options. But this seems to be great news: Lambiel will be coaching her and she will train in Switzerland, but represent Hungary.

Now I can´t wait for her return!

All this talk about changes in the Federation, it seems something is about to change. It must have been hard for Vivien to leave in the first place, but i´m wondering if her move contributed to make a change possible and turned out to be positive after all. Maybe a skater like Vivien had to leave to shake things up a little.

That's very good news. I hope the Hungarian federation has learned their lesson, and will treat their skaters better. They'd be crazy to try and dictate Vivien's life again, now that she's associated with Lambiel. There's no glory in bringing an onslaught of second tier Russians to win spots and possibly medals for them in each single category. Hooray for Vivien, and Balasz Nagy coming back.

^^ So, is that confirmation that Nagy and Chelsea Liu will represent Hungary? Will they train in Hungary?

If you mean my post, no, it's just a guess. But it would make more sense for them to skate for Hungary. IIRC Balazs is experienced, but not among the youngest skaters, and the Hungarian field is way less competitive, even if Alexa and Brandon don't compete this season. Not to mention he probably has a family - I think I recall an EC or WC pairs coverage where a kid was mentioned. Training in Hungary or Europe doesn't sound at all unlikely to me.

Balázs is only 24 lol! Last I knew he was studying at the UCCS.

^^ Is that so @icewhite? Yet, TSL gossiped nothing about the rumor that Danill Parkman is contemplating pairing with or at least had a tryout with, a U.S. skater?? That's the rumor I want to hear more definitive news about!

The Davis/ Smolkin drama has been dragging out for months already.
