2022-23 Grand Prix assignments

Does Marin Honda have any chance to compete this year or being assignt for a Grand prix ? I love her with her beautiful presence and skating skill.

You're right, is he still training with Stephane. It is a surprise unless they happen to be training in Canada. Maybe his second gp will be in Europe. He's a medalist there so, I imagine his other events are closer to home.

He was at Skate Canada in 2019 as well. There might be some training/cooperation or distribution reason for it. I mean,
I actually hope that he'll be interview by Latvian media and then we'll get some idea behind his logic of going to Canada both this year and in 2019.
I mean, I don’t mind seeing him again, but in the interest in seeing new faces, I wish they mixed and matched more.
Well, GP selections are made based on their World rankings, so theoretically there can be no new faces. Maybe some will pop up as last minute replacements though. We'll see.

I mean, those I haven’t seen yet myself live. It’s not practical to go to Eu or Asia for GP events, so American and Canadian stages with less repeats would be nice. It’s not that bad, but certain skaters just stick to the same events all the time. Obviously, Shoma Uno is an exception. He can do Skate Can and America every year.

Deniss wasn't a seed (this year or in 2019), so he doesn't really get to pick his assignments. Maybe he preferred SC, told the Latvian Fed that, the Fed told SC and SC went along with it. But it could just be that SC picked him and he had no say in it. It's not like Challenger events where the skaters/their feds just pick where to send them.

My guess is because Koshiro, Deniss, and Shoma all train with Stephane, they may have tried to place them at events so that Stephane could have several students at one event. So, Shoma and Deniss are at Sk Can, Koshiro and Deniss are at John Wilson, and Shoma is at NHK. There is a TBD spot for Japan at NHK, and Koshiro mentioned in his recent interview that he is hoping to get the TBD spot.

According to Jackie Wong, Walsh/Michaud have just ended their partnership. That means two more TBA slots will open up at Skate Canada and Sheffield.
I'm hoping that Sheffield will go for British No 2 Pairs team Lydia Smart and Harry Mattick, (if they can qualify in time)

Host picks are not subject to qualification rules, but not sure if a vacancy can be filled by a host pick. Usually when there is a vacancy, it must be filled from the substitute list.

I low key hope to see better season for Hocke/Kunkel. They had been struggling out of juniors…
