Good for them! I wonder which country they will be representing. I hope it works out.
A friend of mine asked on twitter and Hielo Español stated that they had not decided on/announced which country to represent, most likely announcing in the new year.

I guess team GB is out, I was hoping Torvill & Dean might have persuaded her 😇

I also thought about UK, but I guess that's not gonna happen because of F/G (?)

Always room for more!

If F/G place top two at euros then they'll earn 3 spots for next year. I also think they can continue to keep 2 spots going at worlds.
Hirst/Currie and Bekker/Hernandez don't have senior minimums for euros yet so the field isn't too crowded in seniors at the moment.

Yeah, but the way this sport is poorly constructed, there's not much room politically for two top, highly competitive teams from the same country. One or the other get first dibs usually at international comps. Or, they are in the back-and-forth/ double/ triple/ quadruple mix we have seen among top U.S. ice dance teams for years. Hierarchical positioning begins to take place, which limits momentum and competitive progress. That's been the norm in North America, due to all the depth, of course. So, the top U.S. and Canadian ice dancers have had to learn how to deal with it.

Obviously, Spain had to deal with this as well because two equally good teams were always vying for one eligible spot. So for sure, having greater depth brings more spots for major competitions, but an embarrassment of riches, also leads to limited opportunities.

For Smart/ Dieck, I would imagine they will choose whichever country (Spain/ Germany) that can provide the best financial support and political clout.

An article about Smart / Dieck that @BlissfulSynergy linked to in the dedicated thread has brought to our attention another partner change.

https://www.ksta.de/koeln/koelner-i...nz-elite-zeigt-kueren-auf-dem-heumarkt-383975

The partnership between Sofía Val / Alexander Gnedin for Spain in Juniors that was announced in June (see this post from @Lili1122 in last season's Partner Changes thread) is not going ahead. Instead, Sofía Val is now partnering Asaf Kazimov, presumably in Seniors as he is 22. The article doesn't make clear what country they are representing. Kazimov is Russian, but has been representing Germany for the past 5 seasons.

And this is where it gets interesting.

As I explained in my post in the other thread, I think the German and Spanish Feds have done a deal. Spain gives Olivia Smart (GBR) to Germany to partner their boy Tim Dieck; and in return Germany gives Asaf Kazimov (RUS) to Spain to partner their girl Sofía Val.

  • Olivia Smart (GBR) / Tim Dieck (DEU) to represent Germany.
  • Sofía Val (ESP) / Asaf Kazimov (RUS) to represent Spain.

Sounds like a sensible arrangement to me!

Is there still opportunity for either team to get the minimums they'd need for Euros?

I believe the cut off is 21 days before euros starts - this week coming up, so no :(
There are a few competitions before Worlds in March they could go to, the Egna dance trophy is usually a good one.

Australian pairs news: Harley Windsor announced his split from Maria Chernyshova on his Instagram stories.

For those who can't access/if 24 hours have passed, his wording is: "I think now is a good time to announce that Maria and myself have ended our skating partnership. Thank you 🙏 It just wasn't meant to be 😇 All the best in the future Maria."

His next story is asking anyone looking for a partner to message him, so I'm assuming he hopes to continue. Good luck to them both in their next steps, in or out of skating.

Polina Kostiukovich (Russian pairs skater, most recently partnered with Alexei Briukhanov. Previously a 2-time Jr. World medalist with Dmitrii Ialin) has announced her retirement.

Here's her Instagram post: https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cm_82uUpiRW/?igshid=MDJmNzVkMjY=

Translation (via Google) of her caption for those not on Instagram:
THANK YOU for being in my life!
A lot of unforgettable emotions, bright moments, close friends, different events, unspeakable sensations, colossal experience and an intense episode of my life spent in this beautiful sport ❤️ P.s. I am grateful to my parents for taking me to the skating rink...

So sad to hear this! They were a special pair. Can anyone please translate the post? I'm guessing this had something to do with Rylov's shoulder injury (especially with the inclusion of the x-ray).
The END.
We waited for a long time. For a while, for two years, our hands were tied. But today we can say what we should have said a long time ago.
Our career is over. We traveled a difficult, winding, but beautiful road. It is probably worthwhile to tell you briefly what has been going on in the past two years. There are too many events and details to tell it all, so we’ll just touch upon some of them.
Physical and psychological pain is an inevitable part of a sport. Every athlete encounters it on their way, and overcomes the problems. But even zeal becomes exhausted.
In the first months of our absence the male partner in our pair had a serious surgery on his spine. It involved inserting 4 titanium pins into the lower part, so further training and performances were impossible.
The recovery and return to training took ten long months, but we managed it. We trained and restored all our technical elements to the pre-injury level.
Two months after that, the female partner of our pair broke her leg/foot. Because of a medical error, recovery was extremely protracted.
These two problems impacted our health negatively, both physical health and psychological. We are not in any way trying to justify our decision or asking for pity from our fans. This is just facts.
We had lots of similar problems, but as we had stated at the beginning--we are not going to go into details.
What happened, had happened, and we took our time making this decision.
In conclusion, we want to thank our coaching Team. Your work with us wasn’t in vain. It fostered our individuality and taught us to overcome difficulties even when it seemed impossible. Our experience will help us in our future. Thank you to (coaches). Thank you very much!
Of course, no athlete becomes an athlete without their parents. You are our heroes and you’ve given us everything!
We want to finish by addressing you. You for whom we mean this post. Our fans and supporters. Thank you for believing in us, for your love and support. We’re going to repeat yet again that you’re the best!
Yours, P/R

Thank you so much for the translation! I was thinking it was his shoulder, but the back is even worse! So sad about their retirement, but it sounds like it is for the best and that they are wisely prioritizing their health. :thank:
