Someone that's a native speaker please tell me this is a bad translation...

Original Article
Two-time world champion Evgenia Medvedeva spoke about spending money on clothes and personal care.

“It is very important for me to look stylish, it is very important for me to take care of myself.

Now, if we are talking about investing in yourself ... This is just an investment, not even quite in your body - perhaps I didn’t get to that a bit - this is an investment in self-confidence.

It’s easier for me to live this way - when I look cool, when I know that I look cool, I know that I am expensively dressed. I'm a girl, I need expensive slippers and a handbag. Then I feel like a million dollars.

If I don't, I feel bad on a daily basis, which means I have less desire to earn more.

Therefore, for me, investing in myself is precisely in my thoughts, in motivation.

And so I don’t spend, if we take the percentage of expenses for myself and earnings, some terrible amounts so that they can say to me, “Slow down a little.” Somehow I am rational,” Medvedeva said in an interview on the Investerika YouTube channel.

Media attention isn't exactly an indicator of whether or not someone is a/the GOAT. The media was certainly going to follow the 2 skaters having emotional meltdowns rather than the winner that was sitting quietly. They've all 3 been in the press a decent amount of times for various activities in the offseason.
Yes, a good example of this is Trusova's invitation to Sweden or the fact that almost every Russian sports association is currently trying to invite Trusova to an event to draw attention to their own sport. Of course, all of this has NOTHING to do with the historical achievements. Of course, for fans of "the heaviest triple Ultra-Si", Trusova's (quite understandable) freak out is a blessing, as they can now use it as the real reason for Trusova's extreme media exposure, which incidentally also existed before the Olympics. It's really very amusing.

Please someone tell me they had to Google this as well to find out Helena Vodorezova is Elena Buyanova
"Not quite"
Helena Vodorezova was a skater. At least this is how she was announced.
Elena Buyanova is a coach.

Agree that it shouldn't be the most important criteria. However for a GOAT it is also essential to be recognized in the wider puplic eyes for their great achievement. For example gold medal winner sotnikova is basically forgotten and considerd as fluke winner

The translation is correct except for the word "slippers". Should have written "shoes". The original word “черевички” (leather footwear) is Old Slavonic, formally preserved in the Ukrainian language to this day. This word gained popularity thanks to Gogol's story "The Night Before Christmas", in which a girl demands from a village blacksmith who is in love with her to present her "the kind of черевички that the queen wears" (the Queen is Catherine II).

Indeed Anna three consecutive national titel should count a lot. However, even after winning the Olympics the media is not really picking up on her, its all about valieva and trusuva..
Throughout July, the site championat.com voted “The most beloved figure skater in Russia” (from among ladies). About 50 thousand people (not only from Russia) took part in the voting. The first place was taken by Anna Shcherbakova, the second with a small margin - Alexandra Trusova, the third - Alina Zagitova, the fourth - Evgenia Medvedeva.

At the same time, it is interesting that the journalists of the site that conducted the voting most often try to either ignore Anna or criticize her.

By the way, the word GOAT in direct Russian translation ("козёл" or "коза"), if pronounced at the address of a person, is a very serious insult, especially if you call a man that way.

After Pyeongchang 2018 Russian media and fans tried to dismiss Zagitova's achievements, at the end Alina was able to capitalize all her success. I understand the passion of us the fans but it's not right to dismiss a skater to impulse your favorite, I love all the Russian ladies, the only I can think Anna, Sasha, Kami, Aliona and now the Sofias have been very unlucky, all should have more worlds, grand prix, they were destined to change the figure skating they don't competition.

Sigh....I forgot to mention what is easy to do trying to anoint a "GOAT".... fan wars of ways to say my favorite is better than yours. There are very few of the Russian national team or specifically the Olympic team members that lack for either sponsors, media attention or random sporting events to go to. It's probably important to note the only ones we really hear about are the ones they go to, if skater A declined we are unlikely to hear about it. And yes while Trusova is doing random sporting events the only figure skating shows she's done were the ones that she is likely contractually obligated to do from her time being trained at AoP (like Kostornaia) or with Team Eteri while both Valieva and Shcherbakova were invited to skate in outside shows. So Trusova has more time to do random events that Valieva and Shcherbakova don't given their current show commitments.

Please do not twist the facts here. It was you who made the ludicrous claim that Trusova's media popularity was due to her behavior in Beijing following Shcherbakova's performance. So you're doing fan fiction here, not me. I just contradicted your outlandish claims.
And now you're taking the ridicule to the extreme by suggesting that Shcherbakova has turned down offers and that Shcherbakova doesn't have time. Are we talking about fantasies or facts here? Trusova was already making plenty of public appearances while she was still riding on the show and Shcherbakova had plenty of free time. Incidentally, it's not the first time that the lack of time is put forward. Wasn't it the same with the invitation to the Kreml? Oddly enough, Trusova managed to be in the Kreml in the morning and perform in Tashkent in the evening. Nevertheless, she was invited to Sweden and not the one who had even removed the Russian flag from her Instagram account as a precaution. Sometimes it's all about sports. Because what could Shcherbakova have teach at a master class? Twizzles? Overcoming? Sloping eyebrows? Or maybe the mystical "heaviest Ultra-Si Triples"?
In general, every sentence you write expresses the desire to make Trusova look bad. Shcherbakova is asked to "outside" shows and Trusova has contracts to fulfill. I had to laugh a lot here though.
Besides that, I thank God that nobody came up with the idea of bringing Trusova to Averbukh or Navka letting her perform ice theater. May it remain so for all future!

bringing up the Kremlin visit makes my point where I said we only hear what they go to, we don't particularly hear about opportunities or appearances they do decline, less the public appearances where we know they are invited but forego attending. We can't exactly look at skater A and say they are doing more public things so certainly that means they are more popular than skater B, because we don't know the BTS situations,
skater A could be actively seeking business opportunities and taking pretty much anything and everything offered whereas skater B might be getting the same opportunities but only do what they are interested in... like the Kremlin visit, Trusova went to both the Kremlin and skated in that show the same day - good for her, Shcherbakova had the same opportunity and didn't go to both - good for her, but it's not like she or Valieva are sitting at home twiddling their thumbs hoping for things to do.

What could Shcherbakova teach? How to defeat in olímpics and world championship a skater with 5 quads, maybe 🤔
However I wish Sasha has time to win a big title or at least the Russian championship, at the end it's the hardest championship

Well, that's exactly what I'm talking about. Who would want to sell something like this to their children as a role model to emulate? And what child would understand, or even want to understand?

My point is you don't have to dismiss others skaters to favor Sasha, Sasha is good enough as Anna or Kamila are.
Sasha has the quads, Anna has the titles and Kamila is out of this world.

Sasha has the quads, Anna has the titles and and Kamila had trimetazidine in her blood. In the end it doesn't matter anyway. The international careers of all three are over. Thanks to the little man at the long table.

I'm surprised Valieva isn't on the list. Was she included in the poll?

16 figure skaters participated in the poll: Yulia Lipnitskaya, Maria Butyrskaya, Anna Pogorilaya, Kamila Valieva, Alena Leonova, Elena Radionova, Irina Slutskaya, Adelina Sotnikova, Elena Sokolova, Elizaveta Tuktamysheva, Alena Kostornaya and Olga Markova.

Voting was carried out in several stages. After the first, qualifying, semi-finals were held, and then the final. Kamila Valieva did not qualify for this final

Is there a chance to see the whole list and how the voting went? I'm a list nerd and I would love to see it.:biggrin:

Yay! Anna won! :clap::rock:

BTW, my top 5 would probably be

1. Shcherbakova
2. Zagitova
3. Butyrskaya
4. Tuktamysheva
5. Markova

And the next five...

6. Trusova
7. Slutskaya
8. Lipnitskaya
9. Soldatova
10. Pogorilaya

...but I have always loved all the Russian women...
