2022 Latvia Trophy

Resurfacing now, so time for breakfast.

Then the build-up to the moment of truth for me.

OMG! Leona Hendrix brothers pupil music just stopped in the middle of her performance.

The Ukrainian girls TES was so high… five triples landed.

The first of a trio of Dutch skaters going back-to-back, Jolanda VOS, had her music stop on her about two thirds of the way through her programme. She carried on to the end of the programme, to much appreciation from the spectators.

However, after she finished, she was called over to the officials and told that she has to do the final part of the programme again, from the 2 minute mark onwards.

Thankfully, she didn't make any mistakes during the bit she repeated.

Now that the scores are up, there is a 1 point deduction. But that was due to a fall she had on her second element. It is not related to the drama with music.

She goes into 3rd in the FS and overall.

She does not look at all happy.

Ok. Time for the final group. I expect a battle between Nikola (Lat) versus Maria (Est) for gold. These two both placed top 15 in the Junior Grand Prix circuit this year.

@CaroLiza_fan Good luck to Stefania. I hope she hangs on to the podium. I’ve never seen her skate. But, I’m rooting for her, because of her country.

Good luck to all the skaters

Thank you.

:thank:

She has a very good record at the lower levels, including never being outside the Top 5 of any competition she competed in during the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons. All of them were international competitions with big fields. And they included 3 wins. It has taken a while for her to find her form since she moved up to Juniors. But, in her last 2 competitions, she was 4th in Nice and 3rd in the Bosphorus Cup.

And you gotta love her mascot, a giant cuddly sloth called SuperSimone, who accompanies her to every competition! 🦥

I really hope she can do it. Cyprus has never won an international 🥇 Gold Medal in Singles skating at Junior level. And it would be amazing if she and Marilena could do the double.

The final Dutch girl of the competition was Julia van DIJK, and I'm afraid that she is not going to hold onto a podium position.

Three falls put paid to that.

She didn't have much of a lead over Nikola FOMCENKOVA (LAT) in the SP and, with the big lead that Nikola has now opened up with her FS, it would have been hard to stay ahead of her with a good skate. But with that skate, Julia has no hope.

Into 10th in the FS, and 7th overall.

CaroLiza_fan

Maria Eliise KALJUVERE (EST) takes the lead... by only 0.07 points overall! 😲

Now for my girl with a programme that I absolutely love!

:cheer: ALL THE BEST STEFANIA!!! :cheer:

First jump was beautiful.

Bit of a stumble on the landing of the second part of her first combination. And again on the next jump after that.

The first part of the next combination was beautiful. But then she fell on the second part.

Messed up the second part of the combination in the second half of the programme. Had to put her hand down to stop it from becoming a fall.

The last few elements did not go well. She looked like she was getting desperate, and because of it everything was going wrong

She's come off the ice, and although her back is to the camera, it's obvious that she is bawling her eyes out.

Sergei has his arm around her, trying to console her.

:ghug:

She eventually composed herself and went to the sofa. But, she is still very upset.

Sergei trying to lighten the mood. At least he got a smile out of her, if only briefly.

Where's SuperSimone? He was with her yesterday. Is that maybe what went wrong today?

Taking a VERY long time for the scores.

This is getting cruel. She knows she's not going to drop down the order. Don't drag it out!

6th in the FS, but she finishes 3rd overall.

So, she will still bring home a medal after all!!! :cheer:   :party2: :points:

We now complete the Junior categories with the chaos category!!!

Because of the early start, I didn't get the SP watched before the girls did their FS. So, I'm going to watch that now instead, and keep the FS until the end of the day.

Livestream for the Junior Men's FS is now on air.

Here is the link for the archived livestream (starts at 3h 38m 10s):

Well, that was an exciting competition. Just as I had predicted. Nikola and Maria were virtually tied. I’m glad they gave it to Maria. I prefer Maria’s skating over Nikola, despite the judges giving Nikola a higher PCS score. In the Junior GP Circuit, they tied in points and Maria finished in 13th over Nikola’s 14th in the standings, due to placing 4th at her event. These two are so evenly matched.

@CaroLiza_fan I really enjoyed Stefania. The program she chose is different and she gives it the personality it needs to make it fun with some quirky highlights. I prefer this interpretation over Gubanova’s East Indian program. Anastasiia can learn some things from Stefania. It took forever to receive her scores due to her jumps. She under rotates a lot. Her lack of rotation is something she will have to work on. She finished with the bronze medal. So, I thought it was a good result. I wonder what her SB is, because she cried a lot, like this was a bad performance…

I’m going to sleep now, as it is 2AM in Vancouver, Canada 😴

I’m going to wake up to watch World Cup Soccer and then will watch the Senior Ladies non-Live. So, I will avoid the forum till I’m done watching. I’m going to be rooting for Nina Pinnzarone. I fell in love with her last year in the Junior Circuit. I’m hoping she gets the TES minimums required to compete at Europeans and Worlds. Also, I guess, good luck to Marilena, who can win the free skate or self destruct and place out of the top 6. She is very inconsistent. But, hopefully, she will skate well.

Today was actually her lowest FS score of the season. Her next lowest FS score was 10 points higher in the Egna Junior GP.

Her SB for the FS was 3 weeks ago at the Bosphorus Cup, where she scored 109.21 points.

Definitely look up, well, any of her previous performances of this FS. And you will see how good it can be. A lot of Bollywood programmes can be cringeworthy, but Stefania is actually convincing in this FS when it is done well.

Today just wasn't her day.

But, at least she gets a medal as consolation.

CaroLiza_fan

Oh wow! I didn’t know she could score over 100 in the free skate. So, this was a bad performance 😭 even though she nabbed herself a bronze medal 🥉

Juniors are now all finished, so it is time to begin the Senior Free Skate double-bill that finishes the event. First up, it's the girls!

Livestream for the Senior Ladies FS is now on air.

She might have had a nightmare skate yesterday, but that was a fun programme from Sharlote JEKABSONE (LAT) to start us off.

I see that the final skater in this group, Anastasija ARKHIPOVA (UKR) has withdrawn.

It always worries me when I see Ukrainians withdrawing. I hope it is because of something relatively minor, and not because of something that has happened back at home.

CaroLiza_fan

Elizabete JUBKANE (LAT), the other Latvian skater that had a nightmare skate yesterday, also had a better day today.

Admittedly, she did have a fall in her FS, but otherwise it was good.

She has opened up a 13.62 point lead in the FS, and a 21.94 point lead overall.

Although she was about 5 points behind Hana CVIJANOVIĆ (HRV) in the SP, this score might give her a chance of climbing.

Nah, Hana had a clean skate and leads going into Group 2.

CaroLiza_fan

Didn't realise until there now, but Group 2 kicks off with 3 Lithuanians going back-to-back. :drama:

Skater #5, Selina KANEDA, and skater #6, Daria AFINOGENOVA, were separated by practically nothing in the SP. But skater #7, Jogailė AGLINSKYTĖ, is a good bit ahead of them.

Kaneda took over the overall lead by just over 10 points from Hana CVIJANOVIĆ (HRV), but then Afinogenova immediately took it away from her by exactly 20 points!

Now for Aglinskytė.

CaroLiza_fan

Jogailė AGLINSKYTĖ (LTU) didn't have the best of skates, falling on her first 2 elements, and then falling again later on.

She goes 4th in the FS, separated from her compatriots by Hana CVIJANOVIĆ (HRV), and 3rd overall, 0.39 points behind compatriot Selina KANEDA.

So, after the two Latvians yesterday, Jogailė becomes the third Senior Ladies skater to have a nightmare skate with 3 falls and 4 points in deductions.

I hope there aren't any more additions to that list.
