Looks like the National team is just the skaters with GP assignments + Fiona (who medaled at Nationals).

As for the scores for international assignments, I would hope that if a skater or team hits them consistently at summer events, they'll be considered as well (I know it doesn't say that, but there is flexibility, so fingers crossed).

For dance specifically, although I like Makita/Gunara and hope they get an assignment (since SC can make exceptions), I don't think raising the benchmarks is that big a deal when there are 9 teams who meet them. I think that indicates that it's a reasonable bar. I object more to raising the pairs standards.

It is usually podium at nationals + GP assigned skater....The change happened a few years ago... We used to have 5 skaters per discipline on the national team (or so) .. and then covid year= no gp happened and the national team was made of only podium finishers... last year, it was podium finishers + those with GP assignments... and it's the same again. I think my post probably confused the discussion because I made a connection with the scores.. but yeah... it's really about international assignments and podium finishes...

This way they can keep the teams extra small when not assinging skaters internationally... :(

As an American, I get frustrated with USFSA management of the sport here.

But then I look north and I am completely mystified. Resetting the eligibility goalline to knock out a promising pair like Proft/Nadeau by such a tiny margin... when that leaves only four eligible pairs in such a tradition-rich event... I honestly think Skate Canada might be even dumber.
I have to agree with you. I really enjoyed them at Canadian Nationals and think they show a lot of promise. Is there some reason we're not aware of that Skate Canada is seemingly giving them the cold shoulder?

I'm no fan of the USFSA these days, especially with their marketing efforts (or lack thereof) and personnel decisions lately, but I have to say at least they've been sending out skaters more. I used to feel like many of the fans in this thread do about Canada that there would be all these opportunities for US skaters to get more international experience / exposure at smaller competitions, but they weren't being sent. I feel like that's improved the past few years. Hoping that it will for Canada as well.

Please take this with a (very big) grain of salt, but Chloe Panetta and Gabriel Farand might have teamed up.

Sumitada Moriguchi has posted some pictures with his coaching team and training mates (or maybe it's some sort of summer camp? I know some of these teams train part-time in Canada under Bruno, but some would be new information for me, like Kam/O'Shea).
Miura/Kihara, Nagaoka/Moriguchi, Shimizu/Tsuyoshi Honda, Desrochers/Thrasher, and presumably Custodio/Hammer (she's not tagged, but I think I recognise her) are all teamed up, which would leave Chloe and Gabriel as the odd one (or two 😉) out - Maybe I'm just reading too much into it and they're just training on their own until they find a new partner, but I can't help myself, I want everyone to find a suitable partner as quickly as possible, and I really did like Chloe and Gabriel in their former partnerships 🙈

salt is good. especially on fries.
I think it is definitely an option. My first thought is that Chloe may have decided to stop skating. It happens often when "graduating from juniors". And then, Farand, who is a good partner, lost Tylda... so it could be logical indeed.

when do the "Canadian series/domestic comps" start? I think it's a version of the American champs camp or the domestic comps in Korea? I'm excited to see Kaiya R. and Maddie Schizas compete against each other for number 1. I don't even know their music yet.

There are two series
non-qualifying in the summer mostly
qualifying, leading to challenge in the early fall.

However, I doubt you will get to see Maddie and Kaiya compete against each other until SCI or ACI. Kaiya skates in Alberta and Maddie in Ontario. I haven't seen Maddie on entry lists yet... but i don't check everyday...

Hope that since it is a style he has wanted to do for some time that he will be more invested in it and give it his all. Which can only mean better results for him. Might he get a 2nd GP invite if he skates well at SCI? If there are any openings that is - which there usually are, especially at the last event.

Only if skaters withdraw at least two weeks before their GP assignment (and if the host fed wants to replace the withdrawn skater, as long as the number of competitors doesn't drop below 10 if they don't replace them). Or if a fed were to end up giving up some of their currently still open host spots.

And there's also a replacement list which is ordered by 2022/23 SB - Roman sits in 8th, but two of the skaters ahead of him are Japanese, so they can only replace other Japanese skaters. If he were to win one of the early Challenger events, he'd improve his chances, but in the end, it's still down to other skaters withdrawing (which is common, but always luck (or misfortune, depending on who you ask)-based).
