Or if a fed were to end up giving up some of their currently still open host spots.

And there's also a replacement list which is ordered by 2022/23 SB - Roman sits in 8th, but two of the skaters ahead of him are Japanese, so they can only replace other Japanese skaters. If he were to win one of the early Challenger events, he'd improve his chances, but in the end, it's still down to other skaters withdrawing (which is common, but always luck (or misfortune, depending on who you ask)-based).

another factor... if Roman medals at SCI, he most likely will not be given a replacement spot, if a host country has a contender for GPF in the mix... :) Remembering the Kaetlyn Osmond story.

The Ice Academy of Montreal has a branch in Ontario. I know Scott Moir is Director. Is it located in London Ontario?
Everything I have read says it is in southwestern Ontario but I could not find the exact location. Close family members just moved to London Ontario thus week and this piqued my curiosity about IAM.

While true, Roman has I feel the most chance of any Canadian man to get a second spot. He has also medaled at NHK before and unlikely to beat any Japanese man so I could see them inviting him.

Conrad is a safer bet for other feds and he is ranked ahead in the replacement list... we will have to wait and see.

Proft/Nadeau's new SP to "Way down we go" by Kaleo from Skate Ontario Sectional Series today. They scored 56.23 (3Tw3, 3S, 3STh (two-footed)).

Seems like neither they nor Thibodeau-Mailhot/Villeneuve (2Tw2, 3STh, 2A< (Fall) - 44.16) are planning to skate a Free program here.

Also: Lori-Ann Matte posted a story skating with Noël-Antoine Pierre (French pairs skater, Coline Keriven's former partner) - New pairs team?

(Btw, Gabbie Izzo has Team ? in her bio, where there used to be Team USA, so it seems there are indeed negotiations between the two federations about who gets to have Izzo/Ferland. From their most recent story posts, it seems they might be in Canada currently?)

I saw a story of Ferland in Montreal's subway last week during the "tornado warning" which caused flooding in the subway... so yes, at least he was in Montreal, last thursday.

regarding Nic and Emma

i like this SP.. of course, it will evolve as now, they are skating through the elements and are not projecting how at least, Nic can project. Emma is more on the shy side...

Normally I would be all against a song that says Way down we go for FS... but the down we go is often well timed on the twist, the lift exit and the death spiral... i would need to watch again but it is my impression that on the jump and throw, which was huge btw, the lyrics are not down we go ! LOL

It's quite possible teams are just doing only the SP as a warm up for CQE later in august... Some of the senior women also opted to skate either just the SP (Gabby, Sara-Maude) or just the LP (Fiona, Justine)

Tbh there’s more depth in Canadian pairs than USA so they might be better in us team

perhaps but we are in 2023... and Canadian citizenship requires 3-5 years, while US citizenship requires 6-7 years... At least, that's what I remember from Deanna's interview. They were also open to skate for either country and chose Canada because they wanted to go to the O games... already, 2026 is probably out of reach for them... so we would be looking at 2030... which makes it safer in Canada... but we will see.

I'd say the depth is kind of similar, just distributed a bit differently (i.e. ratio of top and middling teams), but there are other factors that might influence which country someone would choose.

Like with Deanna and Maxime, it's probably quicker and easier for Gabbie to get Canadian citizenship than for Thierry to get US citizenship. (Like @4everchan has explained too)

May also depend where they decide they want to train. Normally easier for the non-citizen to get citizenship if they're living in the country, so that could be a factor. Also how willing each fed might be to release their skater. Lots of factors.
