another factor... if Roman medals at SCI, he most likely will not be given a replacement spot, if a host country has a contender for GPF in the mix...Only if skaters withdraw at least two weeks before their GP assignment (and if the host fed wants to replace the withdrawn skater, as long as the number of competitors doesn't drop below 10 if they don't replace them). Or if a fed were to end up giving up some of their currently still open host spots.
And there's also a replacement list which is ordered by 2022/23 SB - Roman sits in 8th, but two of the skaters ahead of him are Japanese, so they can only replace other Japanese skaters. If he were to win one of the early Challenger events, he'd improve his chances, but in the end, it's still down to other skaters withdrawing (which is common, but always luck (or misfortune, depending on who you ask)-based).
