Well, as much as it boosts LaLa's chances, this makes me very sad. I love them and look forward to seeing them every season.
Thinking of it... Davis/Smolkin won a challenger and could be invited now... I wonder what is tougher competition at this point considering that they are scoring super high... but of course, considering L/B are competing there, with the Italians and FBS, I doubt the French Fed would opt for a team that could knock out their own team off the podium...

Teams don't "Select" their own events---unless they were 2023 World Champions.
They were invited by a host country.
I think the comment still makes sense because of what Skate Canada did : they chose Piper and Paul of course, and chose other younger Canadian teams, not their own potential podium winners like FBS or LaLa or even LauLeg. This means that FBS got other events. LaLa, unseeded went where they got invited, but strangely, got invited at SKAM where they definitely were a threat to seeded Green and Parsons.
So yeah, I would say that for once, Skate Canada managed to play their cards very well at GP events in both dance and pairs... At this point, Green and Parsons will not only face Piper and Paul in China but also Lala who already beat them at SKAM and the Taschlers who were quite close to beat them too. It's a tough assignment for them while it looks promising for LaLa.

Proft/Nadeau got a 6 month contract for Holiday on Ice.

Patinage Quebec has them crossed out on their Bye list (they had one to Challenge thanks to ACI). Apparently Norm Proft said that they're not sure if they'd get time off to do Challenge and Nationals.
this is not the news I was hoping for. I get that people need to earn money. I get that they probably don't think they can make it to home worlds. But seriously, what about 4CC and getting a shot at next year's GP? etc... sigh.

The one good thing this could give them other than money is performing a lot... which could help them later down the road.

Huh? What? This was the team I was rooting for, to become the third best pairs team in Canada. I thought they could go to 4CC, etc.

I was hoping they would get another challenger event. Also, will this affect their training? I saw improvement and im worried this will stall them. Darn! Not the news I was hoping for.

Just going through the Picks for SCI and I am amazed at the number that are putting Maddie in the top 5 and a lot that have her actually medaling. Some even have her in 2nd place! Hope this is not a jinx!

They've also been taken off the World standings, Season's ranking and TES lists, which is very surprising to me. Even if they aren't able to compete the rest of the season due to contractual obligations, skaters usually aren't taken off these lists unless they have retired and their federations officially inform the ISU. :scratch2:

They're currently 15 on the SB list, so they might be able to hang on to the SB 24 for a GP spot next season (24 last season was 164.23, they have 165.39.) But if they're removed from the standings and TES list... Maybe there's a policy that would be involved with skating in shows? I'm going to look into that.

On some level, I am not surprised considering the clear disregard Skate Canada has for who it considers "mid-ranked" skaters, even though I'm very sad because they had a lot of potential and were on the right path in my eyes. :(

One has to wonder how things would have gone if they had gotten more support from Skate Canada - Financially, with more assignments and including them on the Nationa team. But, it's water under the bridge now, and I wish them a lot of success and happiness as show skaters. ❤️

At least, I got to see them skate super well at CQÉ.

I wonder if their injuries has anything to do with that.

I’m so sad!! They were a huge reason why i was following Pairs with interest.

I’m disappointed with their decision.

Now see, I think it is Maddie Chock who has the expression down cold!
I suppose all of them at IAM have seen it a number of times, though :)
Marjorie grew up with that face :) anyway, shows how perceptions vary among fans. Some think LaLa don't connect and don't look at each other while looking at the video, they keep interacting. :) Some think Zach is stiff and yet, look at the group of people including himself posing with a Zach face.. a guy with no sense of humour wouldn't have anything with that ;) I can do a pretty good Zach face too... I was born with it.. I bet he was born with his as well .

Sigh... this is the most upsetting retirement for me since Jo Phan... and I have training considering I was heartbroken when Jeff decided not to stick until Vancouver 2010... and of course, I wasn't kidding myself about Patrick but was still sad about it. And well, let's not mention how disappointed I was when Lubov and Charlie retired and Vanessa and Eric did too after one year only...

This one just doesn't sit well with me at all... but yeah, again, they both have had major injuries : his ankle, her back. Maybe it's a good decision for them to do shows while the offers are coming. BTW Let's not fool ourselves, Holiday on Ice has made a very good move. These two have a great look on the ice and impressive tricks already. Nic is such a showman and they are both very good looking. They are perfect for professional skating. I am happy they have built this career for themselves. Life is so unpredictable ;)

The lineup to join the Frowny Faces forms on the right. There isn't one early picture of me where I'm not scowling ferociously at the camera . I did eventually learn to at least just look serious  but when I was skating we tried to pick music that wasn't light-hearted funfunfun because thirty seconds after my partner hissed "Smile!" as the music started, the smile would be long gone. I've seen an interview or two with Lajoie and Lagha where he was the one cracking up laughing and she was trying to give serious answers. I get a kick out of the way he looks so frozen-faced and intense as they wait to go on, and as soon as the music starts he turns the right mood on like a switching on a light.
