Oh thanks. I’m glad they are still together but shame he has had to have knee surgery at such a young age! Wishing him a speedy recovery.

Start Orders are out!! I’m nervousNow that the Challenge start orders are up, Corey is not entered. I doubt Skate Canada would have given him a bye to Nationals.
Also good to see lots of National Team members will be making use of Challenge for competition experience

I think he is switching to Italy to be close to his twin
In Canada, you can’t make it out from domestic competition unless you score over 213, for the men.
If he moves to Europe, he can compete more. He was my second favourite Canadian Senior guy. I will miss him

Yup. If they can’t compete internationally, where else do they get to practiceI am thinking that Corey is indeed jumping ship.
Re national team members, they have no choice if they want to compete
Sad that Edward Vasii our promising and reigning junior men champion is not on the list. Must be still injured.

When was Corey's last international competition? Is Skate Canada generally obliging when it comes to releasing their skaters?

His last international competition was Zagreb a year ago. I'm not sure how his release would go since this seems to be a recent decision, he was entered for Ontario sectionals two weeks ago and withdrew then.

Golden Spin 2022, so the very earliest he could compete for a different country is from December 11th onwards.
Eh, kinda and kinda not. They've usually released skaters after a season in the past, but the tides have changed recently, and they tried to keep Soucisse/Firus out of competitions for 2 seasons.
Unfortunately for Corey, these are the current release rules that would apply to him (as he was at 4CC in 2021/22):
- In the case of an athlete who has:
- received CAN$10,000 (ten thousand Canadian Dollars) or more in total financial support;
- or represented Skate Canada at an ISU Championship, the YOG, or the OWG during the preceding five (5) competition seasons,
- Skate Canada will release such athlete after a waiting period of two (2) competition seasons following the athlete’s last competition season after receipt of:
- a written request by such athlete; and
- a written request by the ISU member for whom such athlete intends to compete.

Oh, really? How long has that minimum been in place? It seems a bit silly on the part of SC to impose their own minimum score on top of the ISU tech min. 213 is low, but it's not that low. The rationale being, what? They want skaters who might finish Top 10? I am genuinely curious. It doesn't seem to be serving the skaters very well, in any case, and SC comes out looking "too strict."
I distinctly remember how, in 2 different speeches, Patrick spoke glowingly about the supportive environment that Skate Canada created. What changed? Were they only supportive when skaters were consistently medaling/top 10? A golden age of Canadian skating in multiple disciplines ended, so are they trying to recapture that somehow? Not sending your skaters anywhere when you have spots available certainly isn't the way to do it.

So what actually defines "competition season"? Is it the last international tournament the athlete attended or the actual end of the season (worlds)? That could be a really long wait if he has to wait for the full season to play out.

I can't tell you when the minimum scores started but they were 100% a thing already in 2016. And the scores were one thing, but the technical requirements were a whole additional type of beast.
Ask Skate Canada. I have the ominous feeling that it does mean waiting out two full seasons + the rest of the season you last competed internationally in.

Not surprising that Schizas is not attending given that she just competed at Cup of China. I am surprised that Daleman is not on the list; I guess she has a bye to Nationals?
It was interesting to listen to Corey's opinions on the livestream. He definitely had some on the judging of the men's event, along with changing the values of pairs elements (he wants more triple lutz jumps). It'd be interesting to see him debate Meagan Duhamel on pairs.
It did feel like there was the elephant in the room, but given the information about getting a release from Skate Canada posted here, I can understand why he didn't talk about it there.
