2023-24 Russian Grand Prix - Stage 4 - Kazan

Stamina is so odd. Malinin can skate away after his packed free skate and not be breathing hard. You have to wonder if it's genetic (although I don't remember either of his parents being especially strong) or just totally different training regimes. I always want to blame it on lack of off ice training, but I'm not sure that's really the issue. Curious.

Poor Zhenya, he always has to do the interviews right after performing...
He can hardly breath :(
Oh yeah, I remember him being interviewed in Cup Final 2021 and at Worlds 2021. He couldn't breath, and the mask clearly wasn't helping him.

It's very difficult to get the levels in such position. He often fails to.

Yes, I can see it must be quite hard to do. And it's a shame he usually gets a lower level on it.
But I hope he keeps it, it looks really cool and is quite distinctive for him. I alwalys look forward to it when he skates.

In guessing health issues because I recall she used to have better jumps and she even looked different. Also doesnt seem to have much thrill in the skating right now in general.

Part of it is, I'm convinced genetic. I always had issues, it was my biggest problem as an athlete, yet I have a daughter who has always had endless stamina. (Now she runs marathons). There are also diet and training components of course.

Nice dress but the she lacks confidence. Hence the very telegraphed jumps and slowness in general.

I mean shes still not that bad but she just has poor physical conditioning. Endurance especially but basically everything else as well.

Beautiful music, beautiful dress but the skating was a struggle. A clean run would look very interesting, methinks. 😐

Partly it's definitely genetic, but even that doesn't work like simply inheriting eye colour. Also there are different types of stamina of course and different training regiments and nutrition works differently on people. It's super complicated... but in the case of Makar and Aliev and so, it seems quite certain there's a lack of off ice training and I don't know why they won't improve it.

Endurance has a genetic component but its extremely rare genetics would hold back endurance to a significant level. Basically anyone can get high level endurance, but its just extremely variable and complex beyond what people realize so its takes an extremely high level understanding of yourself and advanced training. Hence most athletes would require a coach and tailored program.
