2025-26 Russian Grand Prix - Stage 3 - Kazan

About Vetlugin's chances.

So far he's 8th.

There are Gumennik and Semenenko who are going to be at nationals anyway.

There are Savosin, Ignatov, Mozalev who already have 12 points and will definitely be above Vetlugin after their next stage.

So let's say Matvei is 13th.

Are there 6 more skaters who can beat him? Theoretically, yes. But this requires a lot to happen because the last two stages are very stacked.
Yea, earlier I had him around a safe 15th including Semenenko & Gumennik, so a buffer for a couple freak performances from underdogs and he should be at nationals. You might've forgotten Kovalev and I guess I expect at least one of Samsanov/Soloviov to do decent at a stage. Wouldn't be surprised if Cheripka takes an 8th as well, since there's only 12 contestants per stage. I took a conservative estimation about Matvei. In general this looks pretty safe for him. He really should've made GFP, though.

I didn't. He and Cheripka have 10 points. They are very likely to beat him but anything might happen since the stage is very stacked.
Yea. I just mean, it makes it really conservative for Vetlugin if you include them. So, there's little chance of many others beating him IMO. He should be good.

About pairs since there's only have one stage left.

There are 10 pairs who had only one stage so not everyone gets a second stage. There are also two pairs from the national team who didn't take part in the series and might receive a bye.

B/K, O/G, A/B and Me/Ga are safely at nationals.
M/E, M/G, ShCh/P and Ch/Ya must be safe unless something very unusual happens.

The last two spots (in case Khabibullina/Knyazhuk and Kadyrova/Mironov have a bye) must be between Blinnikova/Karpov, Moskaleva/Rodzyanov and Khodykina/Butenko. The triple tie is very possible.

I don't think Shegai/Shaderkov with 18 points and low scores have a chance.

It's also possible that Kh/K or K/M show up at the last stage and ruin the points for the other contenders.

Entries for Moscow are out!

Akatieva, Anisimova, Gorbacheva, Daria Tretiakova, Mazur, Tsipukhina, Semenenko are on the preliminary entries!

Last two stages are going to be a bloodbath in all disciplines.
I've just went through the lists and saw Tsipukhina. I hope she is fine, I miss her very much.

I don't want anyone chances ruined, but I miss Kh/K and K/Mi!

MISHINA / GALLYAMOV - are they fighting each other because they lost the 1st place? Just a competition, nothing else = not the end of the world. Life is more important than anything else.

Mishina was very quiet. Not sure what Galliamov was talking about but in K&K he seemed upset with himself or at least both of them as a team rather than attacking her.

I gather there's lots of hype around the quad throw but the side by side toeloops in the free skate by Boikova and Koslovskii are so creative. They look fantastic.

Been so busy last couple of weekends, I have had to play catch on the skating. Bit of a mix bag today.

Ladies proud of Veronika she did great, wish she had gotten closer to podium though. Poor Sophia M, she was so good in the program and I really like this program its nice to see her skate to something where her movement has purpose, maybe she needs to take inspiration from Alisa Liu and rediscover the joy of skating. Anna Frolova seemed emotional today, not sure there was a reason? Dina got the job done today but the program for me was a bit empty and juniorish.

Men loved Matvei as always, I would have given him best dressed loved his costume, but he seemed to be one good jump one bad jump, love both Arthr's programs he did a great job, always love Gleb and this program which I think he played the part of very well. Dikidzhi was awesome and the one to beat this season. I didn't know Maxim Marinin had a son in singles skating, he performed well to Phantom of the Opera. Also Markar's hair is looking better this season and looking very dapper today.

Pairs was a bit of a surprise, mistakes from Elizaveta and Artem and Mishina and Galliamov, which isn't like them. Boikova and Kozlovski made a mistake but it was good to see them laugh it off, they seem in a better place than last year. Yulia and Alexei had the skate of the night.

These toe loops are cause by the throw, by the way. There's too much distance between them after the quad.

Whenever a recent video of M/G pops up on youtube I find myself questioning their choices of program and style of presentation. They look stuck in a rut. I'm not sure they would compare well internationally in that regard.
