Unfortunately, there have been no late entries since the Provisional Entry List was released. So, only the Junior Ladies have more than one entry. Sophia Tkacheva (Co. Wexford) is joined by new girl Ciera Turner-Frick (Co. Cork). She finished 15th in the British Championships Qualifier as recently as 23rd March, representing Oxford! :drama: (Curiously, she was representing Ireland at the Skate London Spring Open the week before, finishing 8th! )

By the way, seeing Ciera's name started me wondering where her sister, Sinéad, disappeared to (she hasn't competed since 2015). And it looks like Sinéad has been competing in a different sport - rowing! 🚣‍♀️

Another skater who has just made the switch from Great Britiain to Ireland is Saoirse O'Sullivan (Co. Tipperary), who is competing at Advanced Novice level. She finished 6th in the Skate London Spring Open on 15th March, representing Nottingham.

Elizabeth Golding, Robyn Foster, and the Condon sisters are not entered. I hope they are all OK.

Now that Conor Stakelum (Co. Dublin) and Sam McAllister (Co. Antrim) have both retired, Dillon Judge (Co. Down) has moved up from Juniors to Seniors. He is the only Men's skater competing at Nationals.

And, of course, we have the excitement of the arrival of Carolane Soucisse / Liam Firus (Co. Wexford) to the Irish team. This will be the first time Senior Ice Dance has been contested at the Irish Championships. And in Juniors, the Hegartys (Co. Dublin) are the sole entry.

Is this the championship for the 2022-23 season, or for 2023-24?

That's a good question.

The Irish Championships are usually held in conjunction with the spring edition of Skate Southern International in London. And because that event gets held in March, this question never really arose.

But this year, they are being held in conjunction with the Dundee Open in Scotland. And with this event being held so close to the official end of the 2022-23 Season on 30th June, it does put doubts in your head.

The story on the ISAI website and the event page don't give any indication.

Personally, I would say it is 2022-23, because it is being held before the official start of the 2023-34 Season on 1st July. But, that is just my opinion.

With action due to start in 1 hour from now, here is a preview of the Irish Championships that Seán Gillis wrote on the ISAI website:

https://isai.ie/top-irish-figure-skaters-set-to-compete-at-national-championships/

There was also a story about the Irish Championships in yesterday's Belfast Telegraph:

https://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/...-figure-skating-championships/a487418447.html

I found that link on the Dundee Club's Facebook page while trying to find out if there is livestreaming of any of this weekend's action. Unfortunately, the club's website is still down, so I can't check on there.

I'll let you know at the start time if I've found anything.

EDIT: Livestreaming is on this YouTube channel - https://www.youtube.com/@dundeeicesportslive9851

:thank:Well, that was well-timed! I don't go to bed until midnight or later, so I sat down at the computer at 11:30 pm out here on the Pacific coast of Canada to check email and found your message and link here. So I got to see the two performances live! How anyone can even get their skates on the right feet at 7:30 in the morning, let alone do a performance in costume amazes me. :dance3::cheer2:They're doing their best to film it like the bigger competitions -- I didn't hear the music too clearly, but I could get the conversation in the K&C. (Could someone tell the gentleman in the black jacket with the association name on the back not to stand between the skaters and the camera and block the view of them? I confused my cat by saying, "Down in front!" to the screen.) Now, back to the competition....this is going to be a late but enjoyable night. :coffee::popcorn::bed:

It's not just the early start that the Dancers have to deal with. They are doing their Free Dances THIS AFTERNOON! :drama:

I hope Carolane and Liam have been over on this side of the Atlantic for a while, because imagine doing that schedule if suffering from jet-lag! :dbana:

Yeah, the Dundee Club always do a great job with their broadcasts of the Tayside Trophy, so I was expecting something similar for the Dundee Open.

In case you are wondering, that was Hiro Yoshida, the husband of the guy who has done PR and run the social media pages for the ISAI for many years, Seán Gillis.

You would think a Japanese skating fan would know better than to block the camera. 😞

Hope you enjoy watching. Unfortunately, I'm not able to watch LIVE due to there being wall-to-wall motorbike racing and Formula 1 on this weekend. But, I hope to fit in the programmes from the Irish skaters during advert breaks.

The MotoGP riders are on their Warm-Up lap for the Sprint Race. But, before the race starts, I am popping in here momentarily to wish all the best to my local skater in his first Senior Nationals.

:cheer: ALL THE BEST DILLON!!! :cheer:

EDIT: Looks like we're running a few minutes behind schedule. Sophia Tkacheva is currently sitting waiting for her scores with another of my local skaters, Jenna McCorkell! So nice to see her! :cheer:

If that were me, jet lag would actually help. I'm a night owl, so my body would consider a 7:30 a.m. skate to be 11:30 p.m. if I'd just got off a plane from Vancouver and was still running on Pacific Time. My favourite time of day to skate is still late at night. For years my similarly-night-owl partner and I were able to get private ice time from 10 to midnight at a cheap rate, three or four evenings a week, and loved it. My husband was home with the kids anyway, so it all worked out. (Although my son told me years later that one evening he asked why Mummy went out to the rink every night and his daddy said, "She's having an affair with the Zamboni driver.") :)

So maybe when they got home, domestic Words were spoken if his husband was aware of what had happened. ;)

My goodness! :drama: I am the opposite - I'm and "early to bed, early to rise" sort of a person.

All I can say is thank goodness your partner had the same internal clock as you, because it would have made training very difficult if one of you was wide awake and the other was half asleep!

But, that is great, that you were able to get a cheap rate for ice time as a result. With how expensive this sport is, every little helps! ;)

So maybe when they got home, domestic Words were spoken if his husband was aware of what had happened. ;)

I'm sure he did!

I forgot to add, Hiro has been posting photos on his Twitter page:

https://twitter.com/patinaggio

The offending photo of Carolane and Shane: https://twitter.com/patinaggio/status/1669968749716283392
Impressions after Short Dance, with 3 photos: https://twitter.com/patinaggio/status/1669996448677543937
Collage of both Ice Dance partnerships: https://twitter.com/patinaggio/status/1670110013812011008

The ISAI have also been uploading photos to their Instagram and Twitter pages. I'll do a mixture.

Photos of the Ice Dancers waiting for results (Hegartys with Phil Harris): https://www.instagram.com/p/CtlXrOar52w/
On ice photos of Ice Dancers: https://www.instagram.com/p/CtlhOlQNsdV/
Sophia showing off the contents of her goody bag: https://www.instagram.com/p/Ctlr5V1oEzI/
Singles skaters waiting for results (Dillon and Ciera with event organsier Simon Briggs; Sophia with Jenna McCorkell; Saoirse with Margaret O'Neill): https://www.instagram.com/p/CtmU0qJLEEm/
Ice Dancers on the podium: https://twitter.com/IceSkateIRL/status/1670109490862075905

It was curious to see a singles skater looking after an Ice Dance partnership (Phil Harris is a triple British Men's Champion). But, over the past few years, I have got the impression that Phil is the sort of guy that does like to step in and give support to skaters whose coaches are not there. Just like Simon Briggs does. That is so admirable.

One thing that will take a while to get used to is not seeing Margaret sitting with Dillon. According to that preview story on the ISAI website, Dillon is now training with Barbara Luoni in Italy rather than with Margaret in Nottingham.

Although there is only one skater from my side of the border competing this year (Dillon), it was good to see three Northerners in those photos (the other two being Jenna and Margaret)!

All the best to everybody tomorrow!

Great to see all the pictures and clips, thanks! Good to see on-ice pictures from the front, the streaming camera having been above and behind the skaters if they were aiming something at the judges. (And some of my favourite rink denizens, the Zamboni drivers. I always made a point of befriending them at every rink -- although not to the extent that my husband joked! -- and it paid off in that they made an effort to carefully give us the best ice they could, not just a fast scrape and a sploosh of water.)

My cousin in Dundee reported that she was there in the afternoon for a bit (she gets cold in her wheelchair) and saw the dance finals. She wouldn't have thought to attend if I hadn't talked it up, so I feel I did my bit to promote the event .:hap10:

Just in time for breakfast-watching for me. Not sure what class I'm watching since I'm still not hearing much (and their music barely at all), but it's girls in much prettier dresses than I got to wear in my day at that level!:hap10:

If you've joined LIVE, it's Group 2 of the National 7 Ladies FS. In other words, the Junior Ladies FS.

Skater #10, Fiona Allan of the Magnum club in Auchenharvie, just finished.

Because I can't find the Entries / Results page for the Dundee Open, I don't know how many skaters are entered in this competition. But, it is the last competition of the day.

If you've joined LIVE, it's Group 2 of the National 7 Ladies FS. In other words, the Junior Ladies FS.

Skater #10, Fiona Allan of the Magnum club in Auchenharvie, just finished.
