2023 Skate Canada Practice Reports

D/T looking good. Clear split on the 3Tw, maybe a little low? Solid Axel sequence, and she hangs on nicely to the 3LoTh landing.

I sure hope that Starr has another great outing at this event. 2 seasons ago, I thought she had reached her maximum and it's great to see her upping her game.

Let’s get to the important stuff. I have a screenshot of the lunch menu at the arena from my source, if anyone is planning to go tomorrow and needs to know :)

There is a live stream of practice on the Akate Canada site. I missed Piper and Paul's run-through but her dress is gorgeous.https://skatecanada.ca/2023-skate-canada-international/#live-stream

I also missed their runthrough, but I agree, their costumes are a very beautiful shade of peachy pink.

My source who is there thought the costumes were ethereal and lovely, but—had nothing to do with Wuthering Heights, as we understand it. More soft and pretty than overwrought and passionate. This makes me think this could be a post modern rendition, or something like that.

I haven’t seen it, of course—just speculation.

Some GSers know how much of a fan I'm of Piper and Paul and I KNOW that I should wait for the programs to be actually performed, but I just can't shake sense of those costumes being too 'pale' in terms of presentation. Especially in a season where I feel 'the louder, the better' approach is the one being rewarded, intricacy or nuance not being exactly in favour.
I just don't want to see the program being dragged down because of packaging. I really don't. Plus maybe I have flashbacks from pastel costumes at Beijing Olympics. Maybe it's just my Negative Nancy persona getting activated full-on.
I'm also foreseeing 'old-fashioned' comments about those costumes.

It's REALLY high time to cut emotional strings from skating, the above is proof (lol).

Let's not worry about costumes before seeing the programs... Also, these may or may not be the final costumes... wouldn't be a first time a team competes at nationals or worlds with new costumes after competing all season with other costumes.
Thank you for the voice of reason 🌻
It's 12.30 AM here, I have insomnia, still face to wash & tend to and I'm clearly going way too much into everything.

While I haven't seen the costume in question, is it any solace to remind that some of the most gorgeous and fondly remembered costumes in fs history have been pale or even white? And I agree with @4everchan, if it doesn't work they can always change it, getting and working on the first reactions now in the early GP series is a good idea.

You can try, but given that folks are still obsessed with every stitch some skaters gone pro wear on ice, I don't like your chances :ghug:

Which - from my vague historical thoughts and googling - could be claimed to be rather historically authentic, soft shades including pink were popular in the 1840s. No, I don't think Piper researched. But I like the thought

Thanks for voice of reason #2 🌻🌻
I'm already in a snit, yet haven't seen the program. Way to show my fatalism. Thank goodness for people in community though who can at least make me wait a bit.
