It looks like there's another group of junior women at 10:10am. I've always wondered how they divide groups (Intermediate often has many). Is it seeded or random draw?

When singles skaters started the qualifying season at Regionals, the groups were seeded if there was more than one group. And then there was a final round for the top skaters from each group to determine who moved on to Sectionals..

I do not believe that is true for NQS, since qualifying is now based on actual scores rather than placement within one's group. It would be up to the chief referee of the event, but probably random draw.

At lower (nonqualifying) levels, the groups are usually divided by age.

From what I've seen, the top few in each group tend to have comparable scores. It made me wonder.

Whoa...Jessica Jurka with a 56.37 in the first group of juniors is waaay better than the 45.85 she scored at Junior Cup. Jiaying Ellyse Johnson close behind scoring similar to her Jr. Cup score.

More random comments from me: Cayla Smith (of the former Smith/Deng pair team) is in 2nd after the short program in women's Novice group A.

No results shown for senior men. Did Will Annis withdraw?

Leading Novice women group B after the short is Skylar Lautowa-Peguero (daughter of Lindsay Thorngren's coach).
Skylar is really talented. Her freeskate at Skate Milwaukee had seven triples!

I'm guessing William Annis withdrew too, but not sure why it doesn't just say WD.

Jessi Jurka had a great freeskate scoring 117.20 with seven triples. Glad to see her bounce back after the poor showing at the Junior Cup. Jiang Johnson did well too scoring 111.77 in the free - also with seven triples, but looks like she fell on a spin. Congrats to the double J's!

Gah! We need to get her skating for 🇦🇹 😈
I'm just trying to be impressed by her layout and scores (and for the 2nd place finisher who scored similarly), but the results page is stuck on "unofficial". I think the person in charge of posting the official protocols went home early.

Hooray! The Novice B protocols are finally there. It looks like Skylar is also good at rearranging content to get missed combos later (assuming the layout changes weren't planned in advance). That's an important talent to have!
