Gracie may not be happy with this skate, but I hope and pray she is happy being her fabulous self. US Nationals wouldn't be the same without her beauty, grit, grace, determination, and perseverance.
You know…she didn’t LOOK unhappy - I mean she didn’t look HAPPY but I remember 2 years ago at Cranberry she was so disappointed in herself she didn’t even stay around for the scores. I think she knows she’s injured and she did the best she can with it. I take issue with the judges on those spin levels.

While I would've loved to see Starr on the podium, I'm not mad that Amber is the bronze medalist. This is Starr's best placement, and I hope that she's proud of that.

Now, I hope that she focuses on stopping the popping next season, and gets her Lutz back. :)
Starr was on the podium. Pewter medal is a medal and there is a space for it on the podium. So after lo these many years of “she has to leave Derrick Delmore, she has to leave Derrick Delmore” well, guess what? Derrick Delmore now has a GP medalist and a U.S. Nationals medalist. I think she had to get her heart condition fixed and she did and she’s improved a lot, in my opinion.

Great competition! So happy for Isabeau and Bradie! How ironic that it was a young Bradie knocking off the likes of Gracie and Ashley a few years ago. Now the new girl is in town but Bradie looks great. Not loving the dress nor the silly voiceover in the middle of the LP but her spins are spectacular and the jumps are back. Amber is well deserving of third -gutsy, raw performance!
I liked the back of her dress a lot. The important thing is that she likes it since I’m sure it cost thousands of dollars.

I thought Starr was far more interesting years ago. Okay, yay, she's on the "podium", but didn't I read somewhere that there is no more "pewter medal"? Let's have a glass medal, then a paper medal, etc etc. Everyone gets on the "podium" with some kind of medal.

My takeaway from this Nationals is that you can have 1990s or even 1980s tech and still "medal" (lol) at US Nationals. A total joke. At least Bradie, Isabeau and even Amber made it interesting. The rest? Hmmph.

My guess is that this year, USFS is going to go straight down the line--
Worlds: Levito, Tennell, Glenn with alternates Andrews, Thorngren, Gold. (Josephine Lee is too young for Sr Worlds, but I think she will be sent to Jr Worlds along with Clare Seo and Soho Lee, new US Jr champ). They may offer Thorngren Jr Worlds again, but I suspect she may decline.

4CC, I have no idea who will end up going, but likely USFS will give Levito/Tennell/Glenn first dibs if they want to go.
Agreed, I don't think there's a reason for them to deviate from placements here for Worlds. And since 4CCs is in the USA this year we may see the same team named, though I do think it's possible Bradie opts to skip 4CC since she has the furthest to travel from her training base (France) and may prefer to conserve her competitive energy for Saitama, especially given the altitude factor in Colorado. In which case Starr would likely be named in her place. Amber trains in Colorado, so I don't see her skipping it, and Isabeau has never been to the event before so she probably would want to go.

You know who made it interesting for me? Sonya Hilmer. She's memorable.

Ok I honestly don’t know what you’re talking about. I’ve watched numerous awards ceremonies this week and the pewter medalists receive a medal just like the other medalists. Personally I’ve been saying for years I wanted them to do it horse ribbon style and name 1-6.

There were what, 18 skaters here? 4 out of 18 is not “everyone.”

This is one of those posters who always makes comments like this regardless of what actually happens, at US Nationals or basically any event that isn't Russian Nationals. Isabeau came second at the GPF with a much worse free skate than the one she put out here, Ava Ziegler won a Challenger event, Starr and Amber earned silver medals on the Grand Prix but sure, this event is a joke and US ladies are never competitive internationally :rolleye:

I was there, up near the rafters. The noise was coming from the US Developmental Team kids. It wasn't actually as bad in the stadium, but they were seated relatively near the Kiss and Cry and the press box.
It was an enjoyable competition to watch in person--Sonya Hilmer and Josephine Lee were both real stand-outs in their groups, though I liked Claire Seo a lot.
I was impressed Amber went for the 3 axel after popping it in the warm-up. Gracie looked good in the warm-up, though she doesn't have the power and speed she once had. Still, I admire her for doing something so damn hard. Bradie was great except for, of course, the errors. Isabeau LeVito is one of those skaters who casts a spell in person. I know everyone's right about her jump technique issues and I've noticed those issues when watching her on film, but she was exquisite to watch.

Gracie is a puzzle to me. She skated a really good SP but her reaction then was hardly different from that of her LP where she had several mistakes. Is that the idea - to take the emotion out of skating and just focus on the elements? I applaud her return and doing it for herself. I just don't see the pleasure or the reward.
I truly hope she is enjoying this because watching her I am not sure I see much joy and this is getting a bit tiresome - decent sp and then a let down in the freeskate. Like a moment of home then the balloon bursts. But with the state of women's skating she might get funding and be a back up for for 4cc's and worlds?

Josephine Lee with her clean fs says hello.
Maybe the next junior world champion if she skates like that!

I think the poster is looking at the past with rose-colored glasses, conflating the top skaters of the 80s and 90s with the lower or mid-finishing skaters of today, and imagining that everyone at Nationals in the 80s and 90s skated with sublime artistry and edges and a full set of triples. They didn't. There was Midori Ito, and then there were the top skaters with three or so triples, and then there was everyone else. Take Gabby or Josephine or any other skater who did their program well tonight and plop them down at Nationals anytime in the 80s or most of the 90s and people would think they were goddesses. I can hear Dick Button now - "I've never seen jumping like this - triple loop, flip and lutz, in one program, and even in combination, I'm just beside myself." Plus, in case the poster failed to notice, the world has kind of gone to hell the past three years - give these skaters some credit for training and keeping it together as well as they have.

yes, high PCS and the 3A help
BETTER put Amber on the Worlds roster
I so agree. Interesting what Johnny said about her not expecting to be judged fairly—and she was actually rewarded for once. I feared about NBC and USFS driving the narrative and about the favoritism among the US and international judges. I’m worrying about them sending the top three to 4CC, Bradie bowing out (and honestly she would have a good excuse and why tarnish her chances when she’s a sure bet at Worlds) and then them sending Starr. Then they could have an excuse not to send Amber if Starr skates lights out and Amber doesn’t or isn’t scored fairly. They want social media buzz. Even on this site Amber gets very few mentions. I freaking LOVE that girl.

Even though I haven't seen her in person, she casts a spell through the camera, and certainly is exquisite to watch. Just her glowing face tonight was everything. Her attention to artistry is so refreshing. Very beautifully done, Isabeau! :points: :love2: :love2: :love2:
