Today's stream seems to be in two parts. I've just started watching this one, which I believe is the first part: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlfW9a2vFiU Junior pairs, which was scheduled to be the first event today, starts just over an hour into the stream.

I'm not sure yet what else is in that stream or what is in the stream labelled as 'Day 4, Part 2', which is available at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jd4-ARjfOQk&t=7s

I don't know how long the streams will be available for. Days 1 and 2 both vanished overnight before the next day, but Day 3 is currently still available.

Junior pairs

I've never heard of Sophie Darcas/Pelham Wright before. They look nice together but technical elements are still a fair way below the standard needed for juniors - just a single twist, which is an invalid element for juniors, and I don't think the death spiral went down enough to count. I assume they are a pretty new pair and look forwards to watching their development.

Zara Wood and Alex Lapsky - generally fairly good technically. Big mistake on the death spiral where Alex slipped off the edge as he was about to insert the pivot and fell. I think Zara must have sensed he was off because she managed to stay upright even though she was on the way into the death spiral. Thrown triple (salchow I think - was definitely an edge one and looked like a sal rather than a loop) was beautiful. Although they were doing pairs elements, they kind of looked a bit like an ice dance team (yes, I know Alex Lapsky briefly partnered Sophia Bushell there). Zara in particular was doing the really exaggerated open mouth facial expressions which ice dancers seem to love, but it looked a bit odd in pairs.

Rebecca Ritchie and Kyle McLeod - They are looking nice together and have potential. Rebecca, understandably, needs more time to develop. She's only been doing pairs a few months and lacks Kyle's experience. Jumps are a weakness for her, which I had expected (she hadn't managed to qualify for junior nationals as a singles skater). They had problems with the lift. It went up for a bit, and I think will have counted, but was then aborted. It looked like Rebecca lost her balance when she changed positions and Kyle (quite rightly!) brought it down for safety, rather than Kyle not being able to hold it up. Small improvement will make a difference to their levels on elements, so there is potential for their score to improve quite a bit as a the season progresses. I think we have 4 JGP entries for pairs and I would like to see Rebecca and Kyle get the final spot (Wood/Lapsky have been allocated to two JGP events already, and Davison/Borisov one).

Neamh Davison and Daniel Borisov - I think this partnership will go further than Davison/Caller did. Jumps are still a weakness for Neamh, though. Her 2 axel had a two footed landing and looked very under-rotated, and she fell on the thrown triple. Some problems with synchronicity on spin and I'm not sure positions were held long enough. As with Rebecca/Kyle, small improvements would boost their levels and thus their score.

Top 3 are separated by just 1.5 marks after the short, with Darcas/Wright a fair way behind.

Alex and Zarah's throw triple sal was great! I thought they performed really well, they've already grown a lot together.

It was so nice to have 4 junior pairs competing, and all the novice/junior ice dance teams. Only the intermediate novice had less than 3, and that's even missing Molly and Alessio. I wish I was rich so I could throw money at all of them to help them keep going. Ash and Atl made me smile the whole way through.

Of the seniors, Kristen's new short was great and suited her a lot. I thought the judges were a little mean with PCS for a couple of the other ladies but she was definitely the best.

Lilah and Lewis looked great, but I think I liked Phebe and James' RD more!

Senior ladies

Kristen Spours was the stand out skater here. The programme really suits her. The score would have been enough to comfortably qualify for the free at both Euros and Worlds last season (and. yes, I know domestic scores tend to be generous). I think she was lucky not to get dinged on the landing from her axel. The turn out of it before the twizzle was masked well, but I think international judges would have given her a -ve GOE there. If she continues like she did today, she should have a great season.

Bethan Whiteman - an elegant skate, but jumps let her down. I admire her for her commitment and persistence in competing over the years despite always being outperformed by others. A lot of people would have given up, but she has persevered and I think that is a really good quality to have.

Rebecca Gillespie - nice skate. A couple of jumps looked a little bit short, but they were stable. I am a little bit surprised she didn't get a slightly higher score.

Saskia Zainchovskaya - also skated nicely. The judges seem to have been quite strict about levels with her and performance skills need a bit more development. I think she skated as a junior last season. If so, she has coped well with the move up to seniors.

Emma Lyons - good performance skills. If she can clean up the jumps, her scores will be much higher. Fall on the flip, hand down in middle of combo and popped axel (into single, and thus an invalid element) were costly errors. She also had issues on jumps in the junior competition this week. Has a lot of potential.

Genevieve Somerville - I had a look at the protocol, because I was a bit flummoxed at her score. I think she was unlucky to get the two q calls. I've seen plenty of jumps with less rotation called clean by international judges. PCS seemed a bit harsh as well.

Suzie Murray - nice presentation skills, but technical issues let her down. She fell on her axel and the other jumps were all doubles which means that there were invalid elements for both her solo jump and her combo. Not having any triples really hurt her score.

Chloe Demsie - jumps were better than Suzi's, and she did go for the triples where required, but there were issues with rotation. Performance skills need more development. I not sure if it was nerves, but she looked really stiff and that detracted from her skating and performance. Some small improvements could make a big difference for her

Just saw a couple of clips. I like Phoebe's styling for this RD - she looks like a proper 1960s dolly bird.

Seems they are running late this morning, hasn't started yet and was meant to start at 9.30...

They're having technical problems with the stream so far today. :( I arranged my work schedule so that I'd be free to watch junior pair and senior ladies. Have missed all of junior pairs and the ladies have started already. Hopefully it will be working again for those of you who want to watch the ice dance.

The competition has started. Junior pairs has finished and they are partway through the first group of senior ladies. If you look carefully at the screen, it says they are having technical difficulties with the stream.

I obviously couldn't watch it, because of the technical problems with the stream, but Kristen is on fire! FP TSS 125.44 and total competition score of 190.19. 😮 She's never been any where near that sort of score before. I hope she skates as well as this week when she goes to the Lombardia trophy.

Ah, when I said that the live scores hadn't updated either so it looked like they hadn't started.

It's a shame we aren't able to see the junior pairs and ladies. I hope this is the start of a really good season for Kristen. Alex and Zarah have definitely made a promising start finishing a good 20 points ahead, with no death spiral in the short and plenty still to come. They are down for the second JGP (Neamh and Daniel will be at the first).

Wood/Lapsky have also been assigned to the fourth JGP (Turkey), so they have two spots. We also have a pairs spot for JGP Poland. I hope that Rictchie/McLeod get assigned there. Their scores were so close to those of Davison/Borisov (and they each placed second in one programme and third in the other) that it only seems fair for them to have one spot each.

Oh wow, both top dance teams looking fantastic. So happy with both free dances and looking like we could have 3 dance teams for Sheffield 2026 fingers crossed. I can see P&J storming into the top 10 at euros. So classy!
L & L! Wow, stunning free programme. Looking incredible already. This could be the one that sees them on the world's podium and winning euros. Just brilliant.

Shame we couldn't see Kristen's performance, looks like she skated out of her skin!

What a great event, so early in the season.

I was rinkside today and yesterday for the advanced novice, junior and senior ice dance. It's really impressive to see so many fantastic teams, and how high the quality/standard of the programmes is at such an early point in the season.

I especially enjoyed the senior free skates today - all three programmes were stunning, and the costumes are beautiful.

Darn. The stream is not showing up on my laptop today, although it did yesterday. It looks promising t first, but stays blank when I click on the start arrow. I wanted to watch the pairs classes.
