2024-25 British Nationals

Anyone watching junior men? I've no idea what the podium will be, let alone the winner. The top few scores are so close after the short!

I am so sorry. I thought it was half past that it was starting.

I'll not be able to join you today, I'm afraid.

But for future reference, here is the link for today's stream:

We have a new ladies champion. She has really risen to the occasion today, whereas a couple of years the nerves would have kicked and she would have crumbled under the pressure.

Really impressed by Kristen Spours, she may only jump 5 triples in the free sakte, but she does them with huge speed and great height. Plus today she really seemed to enjoy skating and performed to the max ! Curiously she has been to worlds twice but has nether been to Europeans : is this the year ?
Provided Kristen remains fit, I think BIS would struggle to find a way of justifying sending Nina instead. They normally look at nationals results and the best international ones. Kristen has consistently done better internationally than Nina this season. I suppose they could use Nina "needing to get her worlds minimums" as a reason for sending her to Euros instead of Kristen, but that would really smack of favouritism because they haven't done that for Kristen in the past and it's generally easier to get the technical minimums at a senior B competition.

I think Zarah and Alexs need a bit of a break after this. They are looking tired and their programmes this week haven't had their normal sparkle. They have plenty of time before junior worlds, and there's no point overdoing things now.

I don't think they'd have any reason to, would they? I think Kristen is the most realistic chance of hitting the top 10 at Euros and that's arguably more important to them than worlds this year, with EC 26 in Sheffield!

I hope they can have a rest and a nice productive run up to Junior Worlds

I'm going to need someone more knowledgeable to explain the junior ice dance result to me because I am a little bit surprised

Top 10 at Euros for Kristen feels rather ambitious, she certainly deserves selection though. Worlds this year acts as an Olympic qualifier so it's definitely super important and if you qualify for the Free skate then you have an excellent chance of qualifying an Olympic quota spot.

Shout out to Lilah & Lewis who have now equalled Torvill & Dean's and the Kerrs with 7 national titles. Obviously no real pressure for them at nationals but they looked better than they did at Finlandia where they seemed a little tentative, understandably so after Lilah's injury. Don't think Lilah was wearing any strapping so that's a good sign. No idea given the relative chaos in Ice Dance this season what will happen at Grand Prix final but hopefully unlike last year they will skate clean. I assume they didn't go back to Montreal after Finlandia so they haven't had the crazy travel schedule they had last year which hampered them

I think top 24 at Worlds and an Olympic spot for GB should be the priority for both men's and ladies singles.

Vanessa James was in the audience yesterday - is she coaching any of the British skaters, does anyone know?

I know nothing, but she's doing dancing on ice isn't she?

Just checked. Yeah, she's skating with some Z-lister I've never heard tell of from "The Only Way Is Essex".

I don't know if Vanessa is coaching any British skaters. It would be cool if she is, though.

If she isn't, it's probably just a case that she thought it would be nice to take the opportunity while she is in the country to check out what the British talent is like nowadays, and to catch up with old friends. Don't forget, she is a former British Senior Ladies Champion herself (the only person to interrupt my local skater Jenna McCorkell's run of titles).
