Wong/Conforti are competing in Novice and this is the last season they can do so internationally since he ages out next season. Cheung/Lee are making their Junior debut. Lia Cho, Ethan Luo, Ksenia and Rui Qin are also entered.

OMG!! I’m in heaven!!!
When I checked this site two days ago, I saw there was a lot of new posts in this chat thread and was praying to see Canadian entires for our Novice athletes.
Instead…. I saw a battle between us Canadian fans versus a poster that was clearly trying to just poke at our Canadian skaters 😡
Kudos to
@saine and @4everchan and anybody else for defending our Canadian figure skating athletes. I was aggravated reading the last few pages of this chat thread…. 👏 🇨🇦
(Don’t mess with us Canadian figure skating fans 🤗)

Now, back to this pleasant update.
I’m so happy Skate Canada is sending our Novice athletes out to international competitions.

We are sending out our top two Novice boys and our top two Junior Girls (Lia and Ksenia - who are still at Novice age). Also, we are sending out our podium from Novice Girls plus M. Ruel (our sixth place finisher, maybe cause she has a 3Lz). I’m thrilled for this competition. What an exciting update. I’m thrilled!!!

Also, quick comments regarding Junior Worlds.

Junior Boys
Our two boys were looking so good until the final jumping pass.

David Bodnar had an amazing 3A. Too bad about his final combo. I’m just happy he made it to the free skate portion. This is usually where he moves up. I’m hoping for a top 18 finish.

Anthony 😭 that flip had me gasping!! So close. Had he nailed that jump, he would have been top 10. He is our hope for a top ten finish. He has to nail his simpler triple jumps tmrw.

Junior Girls
Kara - I missed her performance. But, she just missed the free skate, where she moved up at Nationals. 😭

Lulu - She looked better than I anticipated. Her 3T 3T was better than normal. The 3F did her in. I didn’t anticipate her making the free skate. But, they gave her good PCS marks. See, the advantage of earning reputation points and skating later. I don’t expect much from her, as she is coming back from injury. However, I think Skate Canada made the right choice to sending her to this event.

I don't know about Skate Canada's choices for junior women... I guess, they knew that Lulu would get good PCS and a later start... but Kara ? I don't know.

Anthony unfortunately will be loss ifhe can't do some decent tech. Even Jason Brown Johnny Weir had harder tech as did Patrick Chan who really maybe shouldn't be questioned for tech ability. What does it say when Cnada's second best man senior or juunior is 14th in juniors withotu a 3A. So sad.
I don’t really follow Mens skating maybe because there isn’t anyone ? Idk I prefer pairs and dance. It’s probably hard to get boys interested in figure skating. It’s hockey crazy. It is sad right now though.

With the Junior World Standings, Kara is the 3rd highest of the Canadian women (after Lulu and Hetty.) Hetty would have been one warm-up group later than Kara, and I don't think Skate Canada would have sent her after her issues this season. Not that Kara's standing made much difference if she was in the second warm-up group.

Kara showed some consistency between Challenge and Nationals with her free skate, so I can understand why Skate Canada chose her.

sure... When i think of it, Uliana mostly missed one element and that's why she placed so low at Nationals... that combo in the SP was costly. Considering the lower warm-up group, would Uliana have been hammered even more than usual on PCS ? I am not sure...So Uliana or Kara would have been my interrogation.

I glanced at the PCS ranking for Nationals/Challenge. Kara was 2-3 points higher in PCS domestically, so I'd assume that Uliana would have the same difference. So probably 20-22 PCS depending on how clean she went. It's hard to say how she'd do since she was having issues with the combo at Challenge too. It's a hard choice, I think it would've been between Kara and Uliana.

indeed. Always easier to talk about this now than then. I think Uliana is on the right track but she will need outings to be able to really develop. I feel some skaters are favoured because of some of their skills or outings like Justine was for a while, but then Skate Canada gives too much to some and too little to the rest.

Unlike Yun, Shiryaeva is scored higher abroad in PCS. But it's neither here nore there. Shiryaeva fell on SP in Nationals, and thatw as the end of it. Given that almost 30 women in JWC skated a clean short with a triple-triple and developed choreo, and that trend will continue due to age limit increase, Skate Canada doesn't really have solid choices at this moment.

No amount of toxic positivity is going to change that JWC this year doesn't have a particularly strong Canadian team.

i'd say the pair teams are amazing

I agree... despite the mistakes today...

the dance teams were not bad either... just a very stack field.

Our junior men and women, there are a lot of them that are promising.

Also, a bit more positivity : David Bondar just skated his LP and besides the last jump, he was clean. Landed two beautiful 3axels.
But more importantly, he has made TON of progress in refining his skating, not just the elements but the in betweens. So proud of him

Proud of all the Canadian skaters, including the promising juniors and any skater coming back from injury.
They are always a pleasure to watch them grow as skaters. I missed out on going to last years worlds due to a new job so very happy to be able to travel to Boston this year. I will make sure to cheer extra loud for all our skaters.

I really appreciate these skaters are trying their best. They don't mean to fall or miss elements. They want the levels. But in singles Canada is really not producing. Lulu was injured and honestly she is so so young it is hard to say if she has a future. Anthony definitely is a stylist but his jumps are weak for someone who is one of Canada's best male skaters. This is two quadreniels and no lady looking to be top ten let alone medal. IN the men but for an American transplant (Keegan) Canada would have two quadrenniel of no top male. It's not that they aren't trying; they just can't produce on the worlds stage. Nam, Stephen, Roman, Wesley have all shown brilliance but never been able to capitalize at least yet for the latter 3. Is it time to do something different with the Skate Canada Leadership? Pairs and Dance they are doing fine. And remember these results are without Russia which is a major factor. I remember the days of Jennifer Robinson and many felt uninsiritg skating but she got Canada in the top ten and qualified for the freeskates.

I think given Canadian id prominence, no matter how stacked the field is, if there is no Canadian team on top of the stack, it signals trouble and they need to start catch up before it's too late.

Pairs, if will reserve my judgment because of certain factors.

We'll see how Lin does tomorrow, but junior men placed out of top twelve.

Well... Ice dance is so strong in the USA ... Some years, if their three teams are ahead of ours, that will not help...

Re the singles, i fear they just don't compete enough and are nervous... They are less controlled than other skaters who sometimes are not even as skilled.

I agree, they need to compete more, but these specific skaters i think got a lot of competitions this year, more than lots of skaters who placed well ahead of them.

Also, Canadian Ice dancers are 8th, after Ukraine, Italy, France and Germany, competing with similar or lesser age or experience partnerships, and 27 points below the lead.

Kara just switched coaches. Lulu for a concussion and missed nationals.
Dancers from Canada tend to have better transitions to senior.. When they do no quit

Now that I have watched more of the women's short, I agree that Kara was underscored - particularly on PCS. A lot of skaters were, though. It seems that the judges disliked choreography which had steps transitioning out of jumps and favoured those who did long glides in arabesque after each jump. Those who fitted the stereotypical Korean and Japanese styles fared better. I don't think getting the score she deserved would have made any difference with regard to Kara progressing to the free because there were other skaters who were underscored as well e.g. Sofia Titova, Sophie von Felton, Veronica Kim, Ariel Guo. In contrast, Yujae Kim was overscored on PCS.
