2024-25 Canadian Figure Skating

I noticed Skate Canada has put up the following two events:

2025 Spring Cup

FEBRUARY 14-16, 2025
SESTO SAN GIOVANNI, ITALY

2025 Lumière Cup

FEBRUARY 20-23, 2025
EINDHOVEN, NETHERLANDS

One of the two events is at the same time as 4CC. So, none of those athletes can be on the entry list.

I’m hopeful for the following:

David Li (JR or SR), Edward, David Howes
I would love these boys to get an international event due to medalling at Nationals

Also, would love Skate Canada to help finance sending the medalists from the Juniors Girls field. Lia Cho and Ksenia were 1-2 at NextGen. They sent Lia to Cranberry. Really hoping they send Lia and Ksenia to an international Novice event (Especially Ksenia, she hasn’t gotten any international events this season). Also, same with Sandrine. They can assign her to a Junior event.
Maybe, they are waiting till after the Novice Nationals event, before doing their selections. Last season, they sent the top three girls from Novice Nationals to Triglav. So, maybe, this season they can send the winner alongside Lia and Ksenia.

Also, it would be lovely for them to send Amy (Winner of Challenger) and Kaiya/Breken who met the domestic benchmarks, scoring over 166, by sending them to one of these two events 🤞

Canada has been so good with international assignments. I’m hoping they end strong.

those are synchro events buddy ;)

Speaking of Synchro, they did announce the Junior Synchro Worlds assignments:

Les Supremes Junior
Nova Junior

Senior Synchro Worlds will be chosen by February 24th. NEXXICE won silver at French Cup this weekend, they may have a chance at it.

it will be between Nexxice and Nova. how did Nova do in their assignment ?

Nova has their first assignment this week at the US International Classic. Les Supremes and the Haydenettes are also competing there, it should be a good competition.

I should check the scores too. Les Supremes scored 218.36 for their silver while NEXXICE scored 208.87, so not too far off from where they were scoring at Nationals. Nova was 220.03 at Nationals, so they may still get the assignment if they score around that range.

I should clarify that I totally assume that 3 times world champion les Suprêmes will be chosen... but we have two spots... and I don't recall Nova getting the nod since I have followed the sport (not that many years to be honest)... so it would be a great breakthrough for them

I'm assuming that Les Supremes will get a spot too, it would be hard not to assign them.

Nova did get the other spot last season, they scored 211.58 at Worlds for their 5th place finish. They did have a good Nationals too, it'll be interesting to see how they do this weekend.

Gosh... somehow that escaped my memory.... :) and I watched the event :) LOL

Did anybody watch our PreNovice boys and girls SP today?

I only watched some of the Girls as they were competing at the same time, as the boys. Lots of 2A’s, 2A combos, 3T’s and 3S’s landed. Not bad for PreNovice. I wonder if the streams will be posted soon, so I can watch some of the boy’s competition 🤗

Pre-Novice Men got posted - https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x9do2gm

I haven't checked any of it out, I'll probably check out the Novice events later. Maybe the Pre-Novice Pairs, they have 21 teams competing. And Nova Scotia maxed out their spots for Novice and Pre-Novice Pairs 😃

Oh! Wow!! Thanks for sharing that. May watch the PreNovice Pairs free skate. I love it when there are lots of competitors in an event.

Another interview with Lia Cho ⛸️ 👑

Lia’s outlook into figure skating is very refreshing. She feels like a “bird” when she jumps.

Goals mentioned in this video is that Lia wants to be the first Canadian female to land a 3A in competition. She also landed a nice 3A in practice in this video. Her ultimate goal is to go to Olympics. She doesn’t care about winning, she just wants to perform at the Olympic venue. For Lia that sadly won’t be till 2034.

Just posting to say that I’m enjoying the PreNovice competition. I have no clue who is going to win. That is exciting.

I watched the girls and the boys Free Skates last night. I watched the girls LIVE and then the boys afterwards.

DailyMotion is amazing… no ads…. So, I can take my time watching. For boys, the winner broke the Canadian record.

If anybody knows the ages of the medalists for each singles discipline, I would appreciate it. I wish they posted the age alongside their names.

I’m moving to Novice Pairs SP right now… as I focus on breakfast.

BC and Quebec are the only ones who have information on their sites for their Pre-Novice/Novice skaters. BC is out of date since they have the 2023-24 provincial team, but it was helpful for figuring out if their Novice pairs are eligible for Juniors internationally (Wong/Conforti will not be next season, she turns 13 in July.)

BC 2023-24 - https://www.skatinginbc.com/provincial-team
Quebec - https://patinage.qc.ca/equipe-du-quebec/

Claire Yuzgulec is 12, while Matheo Harvey is 13.

I just finished watching Novice pairs SP.
Is this the same Nico that used to do singles skating? Wong also placed 12th in PreNovice earlier that day I believe.
See… knowing she is too young for Juniors internationally is good to know. I like to envision their future map, after I watch their skates.

Ok. So, silver medalist in girls event is only 12. The winner seemed to be either 12/13. But, hard to guess their ages. The bronze medalist was so tiny… seemed like 9 or 10.

Matteo, in boys event, was also so tiny. Ok. He is 13. He can do Novice/Juniors next season.
I hope he does Novice.

Good to know these skaters are still so young.

Yes, the same Nico who is in Junior Men. He turned 18 recently, so he'll be aging out of it before Wong is eligible to compete internationally in Juniors 🫠

I believe Nico just started pairs.. so this big age gap was probably for him to gain experience with lifts and throws with a smaller partner.. but he could find a new partner more age appropriate for competition after acquiring more mileage and strength
