I hope everyone got their fill of champion skating. The aftermath is all The Canadians did their best no one goes into a competition hoping they would lose or do poorly. It sadly was not a great competition. Losing the three spots in pairs was disappointing. But the blame should not lie just on Deanna and Max. They came fifth and it was hoped they would at least podium as the reigning world champs. Lia and Trennt did not skate up to their potential. In fact they have been dropping at worlds - reverse direction for what you want. And Canada's third spot was maybe more experience. I do think Deanna and Max need to up the tech and get some programs which they can sell sell sell! In this current competitive state there are opportunities.
Ladies. So happy and proud about Maddie. She really tried. Usually 6th in sp and 11th in fs would easily be top ten but the math didnt' work out here especially with very strong skaters behind her in the sp going into the long - Kim, Glenn, Nina, wakaba et al. Still she has had what now 4 or 5 shots to make the top ten and empty each time. Canada really needs to find the next Manley, Rochette, Daleman or Osmond or at least a Chouinard or Preston. Maddie may have been a bit underscored in the sp but I am not sure how much more patience Canada has.
In ice dance well Canada was predicted to get silver and they got it. It was a bit concerning or disappointing though that GP did not win the FD or at least be closer overall. This team concerns me as they always seem to get pushed around. They just missed their first olympic team; they seem to show promise but come worlds they get pushed down unlike Chock and Bates when even not in US they make mistakes and they win This might be understandable if their skating was brilliant but its not. It is very good but it is not iconic like Torivill and Dean or virtue and Moir or Klimova and Ponamarenko. I really like LaLa eventhough their season started late I thought they deserve to pass or be really tight with Britain and Italy and past the French and Finns. Instead they get passed a very good but not great American team doing what kind of look like a budget version of Carmen. Canada's third team really looks like they won't even qualify for the free dance next year with an expected strong new quasi French team and the Lithuanians not taken out by a big error.
In Men well Roman skated very strongly for him. I do wonder though if he could skate clean his sp. It could be in the mid 90's. But the men are so strong Roman could only place 14th. That's sad and not very promising for Canada's men. It is hard as you can predicted 3 strong Japanese skaers, 3 strong US men but here one imploded, two very strong French skaters, two very strong Italian skaters, Mikhail andprobably one more Eastern Bloc skater. If Roman could skate relatively clean he could beat Jason Brown.
All of this does not bode well for Canada in the WTT trophy which was designed for the Japanese team who are rich in singles skaters. Such a system really is not in Canada's interests. Canada ironically has a better chance at the olympics in the team event with the lay out.
Overall not a very good world championships for the Canadians. I could see Canada having given Ayer and Fabri chances at worlds and 4CC's with very mediocre results going with the French Canadian team Maddie is still the more consistent bigger name lady skater. Ditto for Roman. With Stephen constantly injured, Wesley not a particularly engaging skater Roman is the best of the lot though still has issues getting the job done. Hopefully this event will spur Deanna and Max not sure if Lia and Trent have "it".
this quadrennial has not had the strongest skating world wide and not in Cnaada. Hopefully things will pick up for Canada or maybe it is is time to change the leadership?

Announce it on the 2nd, and it's actually rather a neat idea (if they had a federation, of course.)
