I think that is sensible. It means also picking from the SB until the person who is next on the list have two spots?

I looked at the possible replacement list for the different GP yesterday for women. With the new rules, Minchae Kim will most likely get two spots? when the two Korean skaters officially WD, but it still remains a mystery if she is still skating. It will change things up a bit if she will be off the list. Nella Pelkonen seems to basically have her 2.spot at SkAm, i´m assuming Anna Pezzetta is doing JGP since she is substitute for Riga. It seems promising for Mikutina to get a spot eventually, most likely in JPN. I would not be surprised if Seniuk ended up with a spot as well. Elyce might depend on WD on the right stages. Yuna Aoki will depend on one of the JPN women to WD, despite being first on the list. Doesn´t seem unlikely that Kaiya will get a 2.spot either.
There might be mistakes in the list, I did not check it very closely. I made an alternative list below the main list in case a skater from a country that is maxed out on spots, WD, that will change up the whole list.
I hope they update soon about the possible WD, but we might not see it until the end of August due to the trials.

Yuna is one of the top contenders for the NHK Trophy host spot, so I think she is likely to come off the alternates list soon anyway

I think it's a shame that Olga Mikutina as 14th at Worlds didn't get a single GP spot. Now, it also seems unlikely that she'll be a replacement.
Meanwhile, Sofja Stepcenko (31st and didn't even make the FS at Worlds) has one spot and Bradie Tenell who didn't compete for multiple seasons somehow got two.
Yes, I know how the assignments work and that it's all within the rules, but it is still frustrating.

Olga has a really good chance getting a spot at NHK Trophy, because there is a Korean women who most likely will WD from the event. Most likely Nella will get Skam, so whenever it happens Olga will basically be first on the replacement list for NHK before the WD, because JPN and US are maxed out, and Nella already got a spot before.

Also, if Minchae isn´t competing this season or not ready to compete, Olga could even get Skam and NHK.
Please could someone explain this sentence to me:

Will winners of challenger events be bottom ranked (i.e. be at the bottom of the replacement list) or will they be ranked according to their score? It cannot be both, which is how the sentence sounds! If it is their score, is it last season's SB or the score from the Challenger event?

Ah, this age-old question/discussion.
The rule is apparently supposed to be that skaters/teams are added to the bottom of the list, and then ordered by the score achieved this season if there are multiple winners who are not yet on the replacement list.
In practice, skaters/teams seem to be added to the replacement list and the list of all skaters is then ranked by their scores, including the newly-added skaters. This is how Rinka for example got two assignments in 2022-23.

So with a few spots already opening up and the new rules, we can make very good predictions about who will get some spots now:
For the men at NHK, it's Andrew Torgashev (USA), Donovan Carrillo (MEX) or Hyungyeom Kim (KOR), in that order of priority. All already have one spot, so would be getting their second assignment.
On the women's side, the deserted spot at Skate Canada will go to Minchae Kim (KOR), Nella Pelkonen (FIN) or Elyce-Lin Gracey (USA). The top three on the replacement list are the same for CoC. If Minchae is skating this season, there's a very big chance she'll receive two assignments now. Nella too (she already has a host spot), and even without a host spot Elyce has good chances.

She must be dealing with something pretty major, if she's withdrawing well over two months before the events begin. Good on her and her team for withdrawing early - this way, the alternates will have plenty of time to train for their events and she's not rushing a comeback to be ready in time for the GP events. She is having a procedure done on an injury from last season and hopes to be on the ice again soon!

Oh well, if she needs surgery from an injury sooner or later I guess it makes sense to skip the first half of the season so she can focus being healthy in the olympic season. All though it´s serious enough, i´m glad it seems to be for a limited amount of time.

I guess she will try to be fit again for Nationals and maybe get a Worlds or a 4CC spot...
