Fabbri/Ayer are now at the top of the Ice Dance list thanks to Denis Ten Memorial and Lara Naki Gutmann is third for Women. Morozov/Chen were not added from Lombardia.
They also updated Roman Sadovsky's SB from his Nebelhorn score, but they didn't do that for Cranberry Cup when the list was initially published

so does that mean Fabbri Ayer were not put higher on the list after their score/medal at Denis Ten ?Ice Dance:
Jennifer Janse van Rensberg/Benjamin Steffan assigned to Skate America
Marie Dupayage/Thomas Nabais assigned to NHK Triphy

So they were placed higher... but were these two teams ahead already ???

I think that it came down to timing for the assignments. The teams could have been chosen and in the process of being confirmed before Denis Ten Memorial finished, which was part of what I thought could happen in this case. They updated the list, so I've got some confirmation of what's going on with it.

Seems like only the winner is added to the list in Singles and in Ice Dance, while second and third can only improve their score if they were already on the replacement list but aren't added if they weren't?Also the alternates list was updated - https://www.isu.org/docman-document...files-64/34305-gp-alternate-list-2024-25/file

Just noticed Reitan/Majorov score was updated as well all though they placed in 9th place. Not something you would notice very clearly. The score on the list is the one from Denis Ten this weekend -160.78, their old PB score was 160.76, so there is only 0.02 points difference. This didn´t do anything with their placement though, but it will be interesting to see if they will move higher on the list if they score better in Bratislava. That's what I was thinking too until I saw Roman's SB had been updated for his 5th place finish at Nebelhorn. Kyrylo Marsak earned a higher SB there too and placed 6th, but hadn't met the minimum SB in the previous season so he's not on the list.
Alexandra Feigin was outside the top 75, so she can't be checked with her 6th place finish.
And as @norwegianfairytale posted, Ruud/Majorov had their 9th place SB updated, so I'm not sure why Roman had his 5th place updated but not his 6th place updated now

I posted it in the Nordic skating thread, but a spot might open up at GP Canada because it´s undecided if Nella Pelkonen will make it to GP Canada. They will make the decision in the next couple of days and the team is very unsure, but from the sound it, it doesn´t seem likely. This all according to a Finnish article. Nella had 4 weeks completely off ice after Worlds, and discovered during the summer that there are signs off stress fractures in both legs, and hasn´t been training the most of the summer either. And then she had a serious illness recently, so it sounds like there have been interruptions almost the whole time and not much time on the ice. She also has been dealing with a lot of pain in her legs because of this and still to some extent, but it sounded like she has avoided the stress fractures, and that the main issue have been a lot of pain making her unable to train.
Be aware I translated this article with Google Translate, so I can´t guarantee that all information is correctly interpreted.
I would be surprised if she ended up going given how bad the situation sounds with pain and lack of training. I would also think perhaps they would WD in hope to make it to GP Finland instead if she is somehow back in training but still very unsure what she can manage.
In that case, Elyce is next in line and would get GP Canada if she wants it (she would be doing back to back but it might be her best chance of 2.spot).
In the worst case scenario that Nella will have to WD from Finland as well, US is maxed out on spots there and the spot would go to Lara Naki Gutmann. Unless they can fill in with a host spot (still not sure how it works but I thought maybe Nellas spot was not a host spot).

She'd have to take it. The announcement states that the alternates must be ready to accept an invitation, even on short notice, unless there's an obvious reason to refuse (like injury or conflict with other competitions.)
I think it would go back to Finland as a host spot, unless they choose to give it up. Canada was able to fill in Roman Sadovsky's WD last season with Aleksa Rakic. China filled in the spot for Cheng Peng and Lei Wang with Yuchen Wang and Lei Zhu after their WD. But France gave back the spot for Piegad/Strekalin since they had no other Pairs teams to fill in the spot.
I took a look at the alternates list for Ice Dance since that was interesting. I compared the updated list with the original and added the Current SB where applicable:
Larson/Kapran and Simova/Aksenov are the only ice dance teams who obtained a higher SB at a Challenger, but did not have it updated on the alternates list. Larson/Kapran placed 10th at Denis Ten Memorial, and Simova/Aksenov placed 8th at Nebelhorn. Placement didn't seem to factor in since Dozzi/Papetti placed 10th at Nebelhorn, and had their SB updated to their current higher one.

So basically another chapter of the ISU doing their own sh*t, going against the written rules (keyword "bottom-ranked") and following unwritten rules that they seem to not even really fully understand themselves?

I doubt Finland would give the host spot to anybody other than a Finnish skater if Nella Wds. There are several who have reached "the highly recommended scores". Linnea Ceder lost at the summer selection competition where the GP selections where made to Olivia Lisko just by less than one point and just won last weekend the qualification competition for nationals. Emmi starts her season at Budapest and she is also a candidate. Not at the list any more. And black horses are Oona Ounasvuori who scored 170+ at last nationals and can do that again if she has a good day and also some others. If the selections were made today, it would be Linnea.

It seems Nella is not going to Canada. Finland has a list who goes where at the 1st part of season. Nella's name is not more added to Skate Canada. She is still listed to Finlandia Trophy and that is the only competition she is listed to.

Hmm seems like they decided pretty quick about WD, but good that they give time for replacement. All though it sad I think it´s sensible given how little she has been able to train over the summer. Hopefully this means she can focus on getting in shape for Finlandia.

Well.. I guess that's a good thing or a bad thing... I guess a skater who is looking for a second spot would want that better than no second event... USA/Canada is not that hard though to do... but there may be harder combos to manage (europe to Asia or vice versa)...
With the new rules, having to ask the top on the alternate list, it may create tough schedule on some skaters... which may not have happened quite like this before...

Basic question: does it happen that an alternate skater/pair added to the GP line-up thanks to early Challengers results makes it to the GP Final? This is my first year watching the GP so still getting used to the system.

I think Hase/Volodin might not have had GP assignment last year until getting high scores in early Challengers. This year, Gneish/Chigirev is a sub from alt list.

They have the same chances as every other skater/team, and yes, sometimes they do make the GP Final.
Rinka Watanabe (JPN) in the 2022/23 season is an example of that. She won Lombardia Trophy, subsequently received two GP assignments after withdrawals, won one of them and placed 5th at the other GP and then placed 4th at the GPF.
Hase/Volodin did have one GP assignment due to being a returning split couple. As far as I know, they were also at the top of the replacement list due to Minnie's last SB with Nolan.
