Such a team would have to medal at two GP events in order to make enough points to reach the final. If the team has only received one GP event, making the final is numerically impossible, even if they medal at their solo GP.

Hmm, Flores/Desyatov are now back at the top of the alternates list since F/A got SKAM due to VR/S injury withdrawal. As VR/S had replaced banned FB/S, F/A are essentially replacing their former compatriots just as they are also getting a boost up in the ID rankings (due to their talent and to Canada suddenly missing a top team in the standings).
Since the U.S. only has two assigned ID teams at CoC, will this hopefully be the opportunity, finally, for B&V (i.e., Flores/ Desyatov) to get a second senior GP.

Zhang/Jia are a Pairs team, not Ice Dance. Aiiee! Okay, I'm not familiar with all the Chinese pairs teams. My anticipation reveals my excitement for Flores/ Desyatov's partnership. They are good enough and deserve to get a second GP, but it is a matter of luck. The main viable second GP Flo/Des would have a possibility for, though, is CoC. Three max U.S. ice dance teams are at all the other GPs.

I'm guessing she means Bella and Vanya for Isabella Flores / Ivan Desyatov, but that's only a guess.

Yep, Isabella & Ivan have a lot of names, nicknames, code names, and affectionate ways of being referenced...
In general, once established which surname team is being discussed, it isn't unusual to reference first names with an ampersand. I always reference surnames with a slash, i.e., Flores/ Desyatov, F/D, B&V; McBeath/ Parkman M/P, K&D. But K&D might also refer to Katarina & Dima (i.e., Wolf/ Tsar). I know it can be confusing, which is why spelling out surnames on first mention is necessary.
