2024-25 Russian Grand Prix Final

She said that jumps don't hurt that much, but considering the fact she was talking about not even being able to skate without pain last week, I struggle to believe that. 😶

I get that she really wants this, but as a federation, I'd be afraid of her worsening the injury, especially because they only get one shot at qualifying for the Olympics.
I don't think it's impossible. A couple of days ago I hurt my hip playing soccer. It was very painful to walk but now it's fine. In Alina's case we don't know for sure what happened.

I can't believe Akateva went for the 3A. Did she even attempt it in the warm up? I guess she wanted to go to the Olympics.

Was the 3A that good in training or what? Or did her 4T just disappear randomly? This makes no sense. The 4T was not that bad at all. Unless the 3A became incredible out of nowhere or she lost the 4T this is so confusing to me.

and on this sad note i have to leave you, hope to make it on time for the last two girls but i'm not confident

It's so easy from this side of a computer screen to think what a skater should do and how they should react to a mistake and something entirely different when your heart is beating so fast and your adreniline is spiking, But, she didn't totally give up on the program so good for her.

Athletes perform with injuries all the time. I don't understand the big deal. If it was a GP stage in October she wouldn't compete, it's the Olympic qualification event in February so she would be mad not to compete if it is possible do with a pain killer or injection.

Guys like Djokovic, Nadal have all won majors with serious injuries, and they play for hours on end several times per week.

Yeah, but she also said that it still hurts quite a bit on spins, so it's definitely not completely better. Jumps require less flexibility/torsion, so I definitely understand that it would be different, but she also wouldn't be the first skater to skate with painkillers for a chance of going to the Olympics, even the biggest stars have done so.

Got Interrupted by a telephone call. How rude.

I see that Akateva and Sadkova flopped...?

It's a big deal for a federation if they can only choose two skaters. Sure, anyone can become injured at any time, but as a federation, I'd want to choose skaters who aren't already nursing (significant) injuries - Reinflaming the same injury is even more common than getting a new injury after all.

Well if she doesn't skate today she isnt getting chosen anyways unless literally everyone bombs beyond any reasonable expectation
