Just rewatched the last 5 pairs and Gosh that fall.
Still. The Japanese Free programm is outstanding! I cannot believe Stellato-Dudek/Deshamps or Hase/Volodin to have better designed Free skates.
Hocke/Kunkel were robbed. I mean it was not their best skate. But come on! 55 PCS??? This is Italian unfair judging to push the second German team down. The judges from USA/Italy and Czechia did not do their job properly!

I don't find the free program to be outstanding. Jason Brown just used this music and essentially all other skaters (other than some ice dancers) probably don't want their programs compared to his. However, it is a huge improvment over their previous weepy ballad skates. I hope in the future it is more impactful when clean. (no scary falls please)
I always think Hocke/Kunkel are robbed. I just don't think the judges like their style. I think their programs are usually great and they have some seriously impressive pair elements but the judges never agree with me..... I have never seen them live... my theory is that they are a bit slow across the ice????
I think it's all politics. Hocke Kunkel have beaten both Italian pairs at Worlds and all Americans as well. They want to push them down especially this pre Olympic season for their own pairs. They probably don't dare to do that with H/V. They pick on number 2. It is really sad to see that. I thnink it kills the sport and it should be in ISUs own interest to protest the sport from influences like that.
Who are Masha and Lyosha?I'm so, so super happy for Masha and Lyosha!!!! This really makes my week. Hope this is going to be their season

Алексей (Aleksey) is often abbreviated Лёша or Лёжа (I've seen both, don't know which is more common), pronounced Lyosha or Lyozha.Thanks.
I'm guessing for the same reason that Robert becomes Bob, or William turns into Bill. Whether there is a story behind that or just a shortening of the name, don't know. Can't explain it properly, sorry, as I'm not a linguist or otherwise expert in the Russian language.
In case you're wondering where the 'o' comes into play: The Russian letter ё is pronounced 'yo', as in the beautiful name Fёdor = Fyodor
