2024 CS Nebelhorn Trophy: Info and pre-game chat

If anyone in attendance has discovered some good restaurants close to the rink, I would appreciate it if you would post your recommendations so that I can check them out in December.

For me it's Trettach Stüble for sure. It sort of faces the cable car station, and you're at the rink in 5 minutes. Me and my companion went there for Eiskaffee and Eisschokolade yesterday as we couldn't make it to the downtown cafe we wanted in between competitions. It was tasty and the costumed staff was friendly, so we decided to return for dinner, and then for today's lunch as well because the tin foil potato with cottage cheese and garnishings was really good, and so was the deer goulash with pear. After inquiring how big the goulash is because I'm a small eater, especially in the evening, I found out they also make smaller servings aside from the standard large ones. I really recommend this one.

The upstairs bistro at the arena is fairly cheap - a pizza for 8-something euro, but the quality is nothing stellar (of the Italian quickies at least). As a last resort, they'll do, though.

The Wilde Männle (located halfway between the rink and downtown) recommended earlier was also nice, but the meal was a wee bit too salty for me (I had goulash soup). But probably a good beer experience if I drank it, as it has this inn/pub vibe :)

Does anyone have the gala starting order? Asking because I'm currently stuck eating at a restaurant, the gala starts in 10 minutes+, and Sota skated his gala practice in between the other boys, so maybe winners don't come last... (And it's not MJ but Teeth! So excited to hopefully see it!)

Gala order is viewable in Sportity app. Last four are the winners:

23 Elyce Lin-Gracey
24 Sota
25 Fear/Gibson
26 Hase/Volodin
27 Finale

Guys, I'm completely emotionally exhausted and will probably have a post-competition-depression tomorrow...but I (almost) couldn't have asked for a better first competition than this 😂 and I just saw my Skate Picks results and now I'm even more hyped 😂😂😂
Anyway, I'm going to post A LOT of competition pics on my X account and I'll link them in the skaters and the segments threads.

So glad you enjoyed yourself and look forward to your report!

Join the club, I already have it  Woke up randomly in the middle of the night and the post-comp blues started... So if anyone sees a tired-looking zombie today making its way to the Oberstdorf bus station, it's likely me, lol.
Anyways, seconded, it was an awesome competition, a fantastic town, amazing landscape, and all was totally worth the trip. I think I needed two more days before the competition to cover souvenirs and the cable car, so that these wouldn't interfere with watching skating. I had to sacrifice most of the girls and all of the pairs, sadly... I would have loved to see them. This would have been my first time seeing Isabeau and Ellie/Danny live. But at least I saw them at the gala. Speaking of Danny, my mom says he grinned at her twice as she was passing him and Ellie in the street, and that made her very happy. :) What a nice guy.
I'll be looking forward to your photos!

Also, shoutout to the friendly @DemTuppesSeine and @Pandicorn , who stopped by to say hello! It was a nice experience to meet you! I wish there was more time to chat, maybe over an ice coffee.
And @PaulE , I'm adding schnitzel with fries and some shredded pancakes with apple/cranberry pueree to the list of Trettach Stüble meals I recommend. What a shame I had to wolf the latter down yesterday because I thought the gala was beginning (fortunately, there were still medal ceremonies when I arrived).

Compared to Lombardia, Nebelhorn felt like a more "professional" competition in that it was held in a spacious rink with actual audience seating, and there were skater press conferences, a gala, stream with commentary, etc. From the cameras, the audience seemed like an older generation crowd with polite, supportive applause after each skate. On the other hand, Lombardia felt more casual, an amateur-like competition vibe with much of the audience standing off to the sides, fan banners in the back, teammates cheering for each other in the audience, and yelling and whooping throughout many of the programs, lol. It was a nice contrast between the two.

Seeing the rink though, I'm thinking that I'll need to make a Germany trip and go to Nebelhorn one day. Looks amazing.

Thanks for your info about eating possibilities. I'm guessing the shredded pancakes you are referring to are Kaiserschmarrn, which is one of the things I was looking for😋. I was also impressed when I looked up the Trettach Stüble online and found that they apparently also specialize in Currywurst, something I learned to like during my student year in Germany (which happened more than 60 years ago—time really goes by as you get as old as I am). I am glad that everyone in attendance seemed to have a good time in Oberstdorf, one of my favorite places in the world and a great place to watch figure skating :love2:.

There were teammates watching here too. Seoyeong watching Junhwan, the Canadians and the Americans cheering for their teammates... 😁 and the camera only showed one side of the spectator seats; we sat on the other side and had many flags and banners in our corner 😂

My boyfriend had the Currywurst and he said it was good 😁

Is anyone going to start a video thread for the event?
If you need the rewatch - it is in post 51 (direct link below). It will always be in the pre-game thread. This one was made rather late cause I worked 10 days in a row.

Tbh I won't write much other than who I enjoyed watching 😅 I don't know enough about the technical aspects to comment on them. 🙈

I much prefer "impressions from the rink" to technical content. I can't tell a quad from a triple in real time, half the time, and I'm not ashamed ;) I do care which skaters impressed or didn't, overall, so if you care to share, please do.

What I can say in general is this:

Since it was the first timeattending a competition, I had no idea what to expect. And I also was a bit nervous since I didn't know anyone except from talking online (here and on X). But everyone was really nice :) I also heard beforehand that it is very likely to run into skaters in Oberstdorf since it's not a big place, but it was still funny to me every time I saw one of them just walking past me on their way to or from the rink, or even meeting them at the supermarket 😂 but that's how I got selfies with Hana and Sofja, so I shouldn't complain (of course I asked them first if they had a moment) 😁

What I hadn't expected was that there was not enough time between events to go out and eat something proper. Half an hour isn't long enough to go to a restaurant. So that was a bit of a problem for me on Thursday. I had snacks, but no proper meal the whole day. Also the days were really long - not just for us, for the skaters as well, some training sessions starting at 6:30 in the morning. And someone who worked there said that next year, if it's going to be the qualification event for Olympics, there might be even more skaters. I mean, a GP is also just three days, but there are less skaters, so the events are shorter. Two events per day would have been better, but then they'd have to extend it to four days. Just my personal opinion.

But that probably won't keep me from going again next year 😅
