The Bergblick restaurant which is next to the valley station of the Nebelhorn gondola and just across the creek from the rink is probably worth a look since it is so very close to the rink. It was excellent in 2007 on my first trip to Oberstdorf, then pretty bad under new operators in 2013, and good again during my last visit in 2017. I'm sorry I don't have more recent information.

Also, does anyone have any recommendations regarding afforable restaurants? I'll take a look at Tripadvisor, but recommendations from GSers would be even better.
I would recommend Weinklause https://www.weinklause.de/en/restaurant/ Bavarian, not so cheap but high quality;, Zum Wilde Männle https://wilde-maennle.de/, Bavarian, close to the ice rink, Wedensday is "Schnitzeltag", reservation recommanded. Ondersch Streetfood https://ondersch.de/streetfood/, not so cheap, but good quality Bei Zoran, Serbian, 1st floor of the ice rink, average quality but the closest to the ice rink and good opeing hour Café Franziskus for cake. More healthiy food you can get at Café Mandala https://www.mandala-oberstdorf.de/cafe/ but very limited opeing hours. This are just my favirites, there a every kind of restaurants also close to the ice rink.

Thank you for your post @lilimum . I have booked a holiday flat for the last half of December in Oberstdorf and can use all the information about restaurants that you and anyone else can provide.

Sad about Marjo and Zach BUT happy Emilea and Vadym have a better shot at podium now!
to really improve and shine, you gotta beat the best teams. if emilea and vadym cannot podium when top contenders are there... I don't know... We often here skaters say things that they like it when the top rivals are there, it's stimulating and a way to gauge their own progress...

Alright, it looks like asking here is my best bet. I need to buy my Munich(main)-Oberstdorf train tickets today, or tomorrow at the latest. Is there anyone here experienced with taking the Deutsche Bahn trains to Nebelhorn Trophy, who could confirm if a train to Immenstadt and bus from there to Oberstdorf is the most direct connection? Looks like there's an Oberstdorf-Sonthofen-Munich connection on Sunday, but none on Wednesday afternoon. Help/confirmation appreciated.
And does one need an extra ticket for a suitcase? I saw some mentions of something like that in the old 'Oberstdorf travel for a newbie' thread.

just buy the ticket to Oberstdorf. You don*t need an extra ticket for the suitcase. Due to the construction work on the railway passenger have to change at the moment to bus already at Immenstadt. The best is you take the train with No. RE70 (leaving in Munich at 9:20, 11:20, 13:20, 15:20). this is a direct conncetion to Immenstadt so you don*t risk to miss an connection train (what happens very often)

Apart from what lilimum recommended (please, please listen to her and take the direct train!), I would download the official DB app if you haven't already!
You can get notifications for delays and other things regarding your journey on it and and it is waaay better than the European trainline app, at least in my experience!

I was at the rink today for the last public session of the week and only fell on my butt once, so that was a success 😅 my boyfriend seems to be a natural at skating...
Anyway, I saw Michael Huth and the Crafoords when we left. It's getting closer :yahoo:

What is the weather like there currently, guys? I also hope there's no traffic disruptions on the Munich-Oberstdorf corridor because of the floods. I'll find out tomorrow.
