I forgot to point out that the only two international skaters at Advanced Novice level, both of whom are girls from Kazakhstan, were going back-to-back at the end of Group 1.
The first, Irina PAVLENKO, was doing a "James Bond" programme. And she looked very dapper in her black suit and tie. Albeit with her collar un-done.
She didn't have anybody sitting with her for getting her results, presumable because the coaches were with her younger team-mate. But she did have a massive Kazakh flag!
She went into a quite substantial lead of 8.76 points in the FS, and 16.34 points overall.
The second, Aiym TEMIRKHAN, was skating to my friend Elektra's favourite song, "Grande Amore" by Il Volo. She was wearing a lovely black dress, with black stockings. To be honest, I think she went overboard on the black because, with the lighting in the arena, she looked like a shadow moving across the ice.
Whereas Irina was clean, Aiym had a fall.
Aiym had a coach and the flag with her. I was kinda hoping Irina would be there too, but she wasn't. Maybe with them being so close after the SP, it would have been awkward.
She looked very disappointed waiting for her scores. And even more so after they were announced,
She goes into 3rd position in the FS and 2nd position overall.
The first skater in Group 2, local girl Elif UĞURAL (TUR), was in a tight group with the Kazakh girls after the SP. So, this battle is not over quite yet.
