Ohh, this is just sad. Preliminary entry lists are very disappointing for me. Not worth a trip to Graz I'm afraid.

Get ready with your Post-It notes! It's IceChallenge time!!!

The opening day of the 2024 IceChallenge is all about getting the Singles skaters at Advanced Novice and Junior levels underway. First up is an Advanced Novice double-bill. A group of 3 boys; followed by 16 girls.

Livestream for the Advanced Novice Men's SP is now on air.

Here is the link for the livestream:

You know what, that was an enjoyable start to the event from Victor DUCHENE (FRA).

If it continues like this, we are going to have a good week in Graz. Which is just what the event needs, after the problems of recent years.

And the enjoyable programmes continue with Žiga JEVNIK (SVN).

Pity about the first element. It'll be interesting to see whether it is classed as a double hands-down or a full blown fall.

Awww. The wee girl warming up in the corridor in the background of the shot while he is sitting waiting for his scores.

No deduction, so it mustn't have been classed as a fall.

He goes into 2nd position.

It took a long time for the final skater, Igor Gyula KIND (HUN), to be introduced after the previous skater had got his scores.

Dressed all in black.

Oooh. An Italian version of "Speak Softly, Love". Never heard this before. But I like it!

Had a hand down at one point, but otherwise good.

He goes into 2nd position. Just 0.70 points behind the leader.

Yes, I enjoyed that Advanced Novice boys competition. Good skating, and good variety of music.

I know there were only 3 skaters, but I am encouraged by the imagination being used. Not a warhorse in sight!

Hope it keeps up like this.

After that very brief opening competition, we stay with the Advanced Novices, but move from the boys to 16 girls.

Livestream for the Advanced Novice Ladies SP is now on air.

Mmmm. The first girl, Mayuka SÜESS (CHE), is wearing a white dress which, despite being beautiful, is blending into the ice and the boards. And she is skating to "Let's Get Loud" by Jennifer Lopez.

Is that not a contradiction?

But, boys, she was really getting into the music!

That was really good! She has set a high bar to start off the competition!

First home nation skater of the day now, Florina VIEHHAUSER (AUT). She is wearing a beautiful purple dress.

And the music is beautiful too! No idea what it is, but I've seen it being skated to before.

And to complete the set, the skating was beautiful.

She goes into 2nd position.

I am going to stick my neck out and suggest that Klara JEVNIK (SVN) may be the sister of Žiga JEVNIK (SVN), who was third in the Men's SP.

Whether she is or not, I am nearly sure that she was the girl we saw warming up in the background when he was getting his score.

She is wearing a red dress. And skating to an Olè programme.

But, the stream died in the second half of the programme.

According to the livescoring, she has gone into 2nd position.

Picture has come back, but we are hearing the advertising music rather than the music the skater is skating to.

Only saw the last 15 or 20 seconds of Zoe VIDRAI-SOLTESZ (HUN). She was wearing a dress that was gold in the top half, and black in the skirt part.

And that is really all I can say about her.

She goes into 2nd position.

Mayuka will fit right into the line up of strong female skaters coming out of Switzerland currently once she turns Junior-eligible in 2026 (!).
