2024 Japanese National - Men's FS

Kazuki seemed to pick it back up for the second half of the program. Either way this is one of my favorite program this season, falls or not. (unimportant, but as a huge Jon Batiste fan, I gotta point out this music mix. It's pretty good! Even including some of Jon's jazz work!)

22. 友野 一希 Kazuki Tomono (Daiichi Juken Group)

FS: "Butterfly" by Jon Batiste; "Movement 11" by Jon Batiste; "I Need You" by Jon Batiste; choreo by Lori Nichol

Oh no, not Kazuki... I know he's inconsistent as well but I was really hoping he'd capitalize and have the skate of his life :(. Good job recovering, and he really sold that step sequence.

so what's wrong with the medals this year? are they cursed? why nobody wants them? did they all get injured in the preolympic season?

Honesty, the women get higher TES than these men.
Another atrocity
It will be between Kazuki and Tatsuya. I hope Tatsuya places higher than Kazuki.

Please put him in second place 🙏

Part of the problem is the pressure - not only, as I said, is it the first time since 2012 that someone other than Yuzu and Shoma gets to be Nats champion (and everyone all those years knew they were odds-on) but the last three JNats champions have all also been World Champions and Olympians, and the last two Olympic medallists. There are HUGE boots to be expected to fill and all the top guys know it.

Plus, every so often we just have a dumpster fire of a comp where pretty much everyone forgets how to skate.

Difficult first half, but Kazuki stayed focussed and landed the rest of the jumps ! He's such an engaging performer, I wouldn't mind seeing him on the world team !
