2024 JGP Ankara Pairs FS

Well they have such nice matching lines and a beautiful death spiral, The throws and solo jumps continue to be erratic. This team needs to steady these moves in order to progress.

More speed, please, I beg... but lifts were better than the previous guys. Throws, however... I dunno, at this point I'm skipping the final for junior pairs. Objectively just...poor.
The Chinese pairs have wonderful throws, I'm guessing they can make it to the final too.
I think we'll see Flores/Wang there too, with 2 medals and only 1 more pairs event to come. Now I'm wondering if Shimizu/Honda can make it too. History for Japan!

Only one Chinese pair can make the final because they're only allocated one more spot since they skipped junior worlds last year.

I just realised that Zhang/Feng don't have a second event. That's a shame about China's spots.
I guess Telemaque/Coupon are also likely to make the final too (which is great for France!)

Chinese are going to skate circles around that.

well, next year will be different.

Based on the JGP Pairs Standings page from SkatingScores, they should all be fine to qualify. The only previous medalists left to compete are Zhang/Huang and Quattrochi/Desmarais. Holichenko/Darenskyi have the highest PB of the teams competing at Gdansk. They can only get a maximum of 15 points total since they're only competing at Gdansk.

It will be difficult for the other teams to push Flores/Wang, Shimizu/Honda and Telemaque/Coulon out of the top 6.

I wouldn't be entirely surprised if Holichenko/Darenskyi WD. They are getting very close to the top of the senior GP replacement list and may decide to gamble on that (and do another junior comp elsewhere to get the CTES for junior worlds so that Ukraine can keep spots for next year). The two senior GP spots which have come up this past week should go to the Usbek pair. After that, McBeath/Parkman would get a second spot, and then it would be Holichenko/Darenskyi. That just means two more pairs withdrawing from somewhere across the senior GP and they would have a spot there.

I'm not sure about the choices that were made assigning them to only one JGP. Ukraine doesn't have any other teams competing in the JGP, Holichenko/Darenskyi are the only Ukrainian team competing for Pairs on it. There are no alternates for their spot listed, so Ukraine is only using Gdansk for Pairs.

They're still on the alternates list (which hasn't been updated and has skaters who are too young for Seniors on it), so they could WD and get the chance for a GP. I hope the one JGP spot is what they wanted since it doesn't make sense to do only one.

My hunch is that the JGP was the back up option for if they didn't get a senior GP spot. They are down for the last of the pairs JGP events, which gave them longer to see if a senior spot came up. If they actively wanted to do the JGP, they would have done two events because they would have had a very good chance of making the GP final. I suspect that junior worlds may also be a factor in the federation's thinking. I expect that Ukraine will want them to compete at junior worlds as well as senior worlds, because their doing so gives Ukraine better options for next season (particularly if either skater from the split pair form a new partnership representing Ukraine). This would mean that they needed to do a junior competition at some point to get the CTES for junior worlds.
