2024 Skate America is the first event of the 2024-25 ISU Grand Prix series and is scheduled to take place October 18-20, 2024, in Allen, Texas. The ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series consists of six international senior invitational events and culminates with the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final in December.

Competitors collect points in their individual Grand Prix events towards the qualification for the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final. Only the top six skaters/teams in each discipline can qualify for the Final.

Skaters are seeded and invited to the six Grand Prix of Figure Skating events based on the results obtained at the 2024 ISU World Figure Skating Championships. Skaters/teams who have placed first through sixth in each of the four categories are seeded and assigned to two events. Skaters/teams who have placed seventh through 12th at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships are selected for two ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating events. Skaters with a top 24 Season Best Scores (from the 2023-24 season), as well as those placed in the top 24 of the ISU World Standings, can also be invited.

In order for a skater/team to be eligible to compete at an ISU Grand Prix event, a minimum total score must have been achieved in the 2023-24 or current 2024-25 season in an ISU event (Grand Prix, Junior Grand Prix, Championships) or a Challenger Series event. Exceptions apply to host country skaters, previously ranked skaters or split ranked couples who return with new partners.

Does anyone know how to get from the airport to/from Allen? Especially for a geezer who doesn't have a smartphone and is too old to rent a car. My daughter will be meeting me, but may leave on Sunday, while I stay until Monday. We thought of her renting a car, but it won't help me if she has already left!

Edited to add: dilemma solved. We have co-ordinated our flight times so that she can drive me. A side benfit is minimizing our time and hotel nights in Texas. My itinerary is killer in terms of layovers and flying at night, but I have only one change of plane in each direction.

Anyone looking for sharing a ride from Dallas Airport to Allen?
My flight is scheduled to arrive at Dallas DFW at 11.00am Sat Oct 19 and I'm planning to head to the airport around 4.00pm on Sun Oct 20.
My plan is to hire a Uber/Lyft. I'm also happy to share the rental and gas if anyone is driving:pray:

I will be picking up my friend from Dallas Love Field airport (this airport is for Southwest flights) on Wednesday at 7:50 pm and dropping her off on Monday around 3'ish pm (her flight is at 5:00 pm). If anyone is arriving and/or departing around the same time I will be happy to carpool.
I'm local so I'm also extending my invites to carpool before and/or after practices and competitions to anyone staying in nearby hotels.
Welcome to Texas (Allen) :)

Hello Golden Skaters!
:)

Been a while since I've been here, but getting ready for the new season!

Concerned for Kevin Aymoz, hope this stop goes better for him than his last competition.
I haven't seen the video of it, but from what I've heard, I am also concerned about Kevin and am hoping he is in a good place both mentally and physically. :(🙏

I will not be in Texas (but I'm still a Kao girl, lol) and have decided to enter a karaoke contest instead. However, I hope those of you who are going have a fun time! 🙂

Good Luck and have fun in the karaoke contest! :hap10:

Selfish to say but I can't believe I'm going to Texas to watch Kao pop and fall on 4T attempts 😓:drama:😭
At least I get to see Yuna Aoki skate live for the first time...

Hoping both Kao and Kevin are able to resolve their issues and show up healthy and in good form for this competition

We're flying down to Dallas on Tuesday, will visit a cousin who lives in Flower Mound (in the Dallas area) for a few days. We will be @ Skate America some time on Friday. Hope to meet up with other GS members there (love watching the practices - I like to sit near where the skaters enter the ice during the practices when possible). I think our "real" seats are more towards center ice, opposite the judges. After SA, we will spend more time with our cousin back in Flower Mound & fly home on Tuesday, October 22.

Two questions for anyone who has been to the Allen arena:

- how cold is it inside?

- are the seats hard or padded?

Is there going to be a stream available for those of us outside of the US, or will the new US music copyright rules scupper that?

I went last year, and i remember that the Texas fall temperatures were uncomfortably hot, which made dressing for the cold interior of the rink very challenging.

Also, be prepared to have your bag carefully searched and any food confiscated.

If you have a car, there is a large, free parking garage directly across from the rink. If you have no car, you will be crossing a highway or highways on foot to get to your hotel.

Beyond the parking garage there is a restaurant/retail area with many options, and on the opposite side of the rink, there is a nice coffee shop.

Hope this helps! Enjoy

I'm cold EVERYWHERE. Every rink. So yes, I'm going to say it's cold. But I will have a coat, blanket, sweater, gloves and whatever else I can find and be miserably cold and other people are going to have like, a long sleeved shirt on.
The handicapped seats are padded, don't know about the normal ones.

I'm looking forward to being able to watch this event on stream! Especially excited to see what Yuna Aoki's programs are this year and curious about how Neset/Markelov adjust to seniors. And of course will be rooting for my long time favorites to do their best (Chock/Bates, Deniss, RikuRyu etc)
