Okay I have to ask, I am obviously too biased to judge correctly, does Jia who technically went "clean" deserve a point less in PCS than Shimada Mao? Because I think not

Maybe I'm biased, but in terms of PCS, I would go 1. Yo, 2. Jia, 3. Mao - At least today. Not necessarily much separating them, but in that order.

I didn’t expect Kaiya to make it to the final flight with, as Petra mentioned “5 Asian ladies”; I’m so used to Canadians being in the penultimate group, I didn’t even think Kaiya might have done enough to be in the final flight.

The Japanese and Korean ladies are just too good. This makes me think, that if Russia was allowed, would these three countries dominate positions 1-9 at Junior Worlds… this would mean all other countries would be fighting for that elusive tenth spot….

I thought Inga should have still placed higher… her height of her triples and her speed improvement was noticeable here. I wonder if she has her 3A back

I'm no expert in skating skills and I have no idea how to judge composition, but for the presentation score I would give Mao higher than Jia today. Jia looked quite distraught after her combo mistake and to me didn't perform as good as usual, while Mao today was very energetic and expressive in her performance.

Still I agree that Yo should've been first in performance (and maybe the other PCS categories too). But really it's just 1 PCS point separating all 3 of them, so I'm not too concerned. Judging seems pretty fair to me, Mao even got a ! on her 3F.

Two, though pretty evenly distributed, with one point distance between Mao and Jia, and then Jia and Yo. Personally, I think this is too much, Yo unfortunately didn't even score above 30 in PCS (still her highest PCS this season so far, so at least there's that).

Yeah that's what I meant by "1 point separating all 3 of them", 1 point between Mao & Jia and 1 point between Jia and Yo.

who's doing the commentary?

Some dude called Graham and some lady called Petra, the latter of which as far as I can figure did compete once, but way back in the 6.0 days or at least when step sequences in singles had compulsory elements in it.

I know it' late, but since my friends are asking, I thought I should answer.

Graham Bell is a Scottish Alpine Skier.

Petra Bindl is a German Roller Skater.

I for one am wondering where Ted is? Bit rude to leave him out!

That's one of the many things I hate about the IOC events. For the World Feed coverage, they never use the commentators that we have been listening to all season. They always bring in different commentators, many of whom are just general sports commentators, and are not specialists in the sport that they are commentating on.

Although her background is in a different branch of figure skating, at least Petra can identify elements and tell us things from the viewpoint of a skater. And although he does not have the technical knowledge, at least Graham is a true professional that goes to the bother of doing research. (Unfortunately, a lot of commentators that are covering things they don't normally follow don't bother doing research, and try to wing it).

But, I agree, it would be so much better if we had Ted. At least he knows the skaters and their form, having commentated on a lot of them all season.

Pretend that you're a young Turkish girl and enter a competition in Izmir.

You should have seen the Interclub categories at the Ephesus Cup. There were so many cuddly toys being thrown that the skaters were having to make two or three journeys to gather them all up!

One girl in particular decided to try to carry them all off in one go. And she was carrying so many that she couldn't see where she was going, and stood on one she had missed. And she was very lucky not to go headlong!

You are watching on Eurosport like me, aren't you? Well, they do actually give us a way to switch to no commentary. There is a button in the bottom right-hand corner that lets you choose from different audio feeds. Just select "Ambient Sound" from the options. Et voilà! No Graham and Petra.

But, given how many comments there are on here about things she says, I would feel like I was missing out on part of the experience!

Well, I don't mind them so much with the men and the ID, but you should have heard them with pairs. At least he (Graham), not knowing the sport, was impressed by what such younglings already can do and perform, but Petra made comparisons with top sr pairs which I felt to be very unfair.

I did. And I did think the comparisons were unfair.

Petra mentioned at one stage that she had been a coach, so maybe that is the sort of thing she did to encourage her students. But it is one thing doing that with kids that you know well, and where you know what way they will respond to it. It is a totally different thing doing it with kids that you don't know, and so don't know how they will react. They may take it to heart, and either decide that they can't do it and give up, or else start pushing themselves too hard.

You have to be so careful with what you say about or to kids this age.

As you say, she didn't seem to say anything like that since the Pairs. So, as another member suggested, maybe somebody had a word with her, and she has toned it down a bit as a result.

At least Petra hasn't got anywhere near Joanne Conway levels of criticism in commentary...

I think it's a compilation of a whole pile of pieces of tango music. I was hearing sections of "Tango de Roxanne"; sections of "The Addams Family" theme; sections I recognised but didn't know the name of; sections I didn't recognise...

"This is not the greatest tango in the world. No, this is just a tribute", as Jack Black would probably put it.

I've been really missing chatting with you so far. The Pairs / Dance sessions were far too early for us in Europe, and the Singles sessions clashed with the Ephesus Cup, which I was concentrating on because I had kids there. (All of whom are coming home with Gold Medals, I might add! )

But, I was really looking forward to us being reunited for the Singles Frees over the next couple of days. (Why, oh why, are the Pairs and Dance Frees even earlier?!)

Whatever you are doing instead, enjoy yourself.
