2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games | Jan 27 - Feb 1

But I wasn't talking about actual positions. I was talking about the order that they are in. The other 4 skaters are in the correct order.

maybe it's too late to me but i don't understand anything you are saying ;) haha i better go to bed. :)

Strict judging! But, I love this type of judging!! They saw it, as it is.

Jia and Mao were just shocked at their overall scores.

This favours the big jumpers….with big triples… which I like.
I do the same. Inga's jumps, when she didn't pop them, were huge... She wasn't hit by the q < << mob.. :) also, i like that they look at edges carefully.

I find funny that after competitions, we often get some posters willing to post screen shots of everything that was not called... but then, when it's called, we get another group of posters who are not happy :)

this is why we gotta love figure skating forums :)

Awww, they couldn't bring Yuna Kim as the ISU Athlete role model?
Nothing against Yura of course, just thought how special it would be for Yuna to appear in YOG in her country 😊

I was amazed during the Opening Ceremony that Yun-a wasn't lighting the Olympic Flame. And even more amazed that she didn't even have another role.

But, I suppose the organisers thought that she had had her moment in 2018, and decided to let other Korean athletes have their moment this time.

dont blame the fans, blame the inconsistent judging

This protocols are crazy. Even Sherry got a q. I think only Inga escaped any calls. She didn't do a 3-3.
Yeah Inga popped 2 triples into doubles but still received positive GOE for those 2, I wonder if that actually worked better in her favor rather than underrotated triples 😅

Btw Anthea also didn't get any rotation calls, only 2 edge warning calls.

This season has been so wacky with scoring, on the one hand you have super strict scoring (in women's at least) at JGP Cup of Austria and here, but on the other hand you have very generous scoring at other competitions 🫠 I guess as long as it's consistent within one competition it doesn't affect the results as much, but on the other hand, it does still affect the Skaters' PBs and SBs, which is an issue for skaters moving up to Seniors (-> GP assignments!).

Inga's jumps, while huge, aren't really the most aesthetically pleasing, which will affect how much GOE you can get.

But of course, if your jumps are marked by q < <<, that also affects your GOE as well....

Right, time to finish breakfast and get ready, and then catch up on the Free Dance.

I won't be joining you LIVE on Thursday for the Team Event, so enjoy yourselves.

And, of course, all the best to the skaters taking part.

exactly and not only GOE... edge calls and < and << affect BV... Inga's BV is safer

The other thing to consider : are the rankings good ? I think that most people could agree that the rankings here were pretty legit... 3rd and 4th place could have been inverted, but I would have placed the top 5 exactly like the judges did... (not like i have any expertise other than just being a hardcore fan)

not blaming anyone actually, just making an observation. I think the judging within a competition has to be consistent.. but with different panels and judges, from competition to competition, it will obviously differ. There is a thread I started about how to the ISU could indeed help with that ;) :)

Just started watching the Free Dance, and I had to laugh at the conversation between Petra and Graham about the Czech siblings during the Group 1 Warm-Up.

Petra: "A very, very young couple. You heard it, 15 and 14 years old".
Graham: "Brother and sister combination. Older sister".
Petra: "Just a year! That's nothing!" [Laughs]
Graham: "Well, it is, er. You're talking about siblings".
Petra: [Laughs]

Methinks Graham is talking from experience here! ;)

For reference, the age difference between the skiing Bell brothers is even less than it is between the skating Vlček siblings:

  • Klára Vlčková is 450 days older than Tomáš Vlček.
  • Martin Bell is 394 days older than Graham Bell.

Choreo Character Step Sequence - he fell

Very difficult for skaters so young to present such an abstract program. They need to do more performing, and push it out to the audience, and the judges. He lost his balance in the choreo character step sequence, and had a fall that they did take a bit of time to recover from.

75.58 = 2nd Place
126.50 = 3rd Place
She actually got a 3 in OFT, overall good job

Inga's great she attacks the ice.

By my count that's 1 out of the last 10 4T's that Shimada has landed clean now (10% success rate). It's either 5 or 6 falls out of those 10 attempts, and this last fall was quite a heavy fall.

I can't understand what the motivation of the coach is to keep forcing her to attempt this jump.

I think the problem for Mao is or she is focused on her triple axel or she is focused on her 4T, but not both, when she began to train the triple axel she lost her consistency on her toe loop

OMG!! Petra thought Yo was from Korea just now…. I don’t know if I can take watching the Team event. First time I might now watch due to the commentators….. my head spins

Such cute reaction from Yo. But, Y. Kim was robbed… I thought after the fall on the 3A, that she was clean…

I hope USA sends Sherry to Junior Worlds. They seem to love her and she could break apart the top 6 from Kore and Japan.
Yes, her commentary was irritating from start to finish. I am glad that Jia's FS managed to stun both commentators into brief silence in awe of her!

It might be tough for Sherry to make JWC, they only have 2 spots and I am guessing that Josephine as nationals silver Medallist is guaranteed one. Sarah and Elyce are also in the mix.

I'm guessing that Sarah's consistency and Josephine's potential are going to make them the JW team. I know Josephine fell apart last year, but she was able to improve her performance at Nationals, we'll see if she will also improve at Junior world's as well. It will be tough for either of them to make the top 6 though.

I don't think it is right to call Sarah, Josephine, or Sherry consistent. Their all results this year and in previous years have been very up and down. That being said, I agree that it will be hard for Sherry to be chosen for JW. If she had won a medal at YOG, then yes, but falling apart in the SP did her no favors. Likely they USF, will go with the women who did best at senior nationals as mentioned.
