2025-2026 Canadian Figure Skating

Also, for me, the new Season begins tomorrow with Sunsational event in AB.

Parker, our Canadian Junior National champion headlines the event as he debuts in his first senior event.

I’m also looking forward to watching Travis in junior men and Kassidy and Kaydee in the ladies events.

No Lia Cho (I wanted to see if she would skate as a Senior or Junior). She must be focusing on her Junior Programs. I hope she keeps the same programs for JGP. Also, no Kaiya or Uxia.
Will there be a Dailymotion stream for this?

At Sunsational, Travis received three invalid elements. Two invalid on the spins and one on the jump.

As a Junior, he landed a beautiful 3F 3T, then went for a 3Lz (fell). Then, landed a 2A.

Q: Was the jump invalid because it should have been a loop? I thought lutz was the new required solo jump. Also, why were his spins invalid? 🤔

Finally, Parker competed and has a lot of improvements to make. He scored 63.87 in the SP (only event scheduled). The 219 domestic threshold may be too daunting if he doesn’t improve technically. He is our reigning junior national champion and the standards for the Senior Men is really difficult to try to be sent for an international event. I hope he is learning the 3A. Overall, his program is nice!!

He competed the 2026-27 requirements, but the competition is using the 2025-26 requirements. So he should've done a fly sit spin and change camel spin, but did the fly camel spin and change sit spin instead. And the solo jump should be the loop.

Skate BC made a note of the scoring software needing to be updated for the new requirements for next season and it won't be ready until July (here). So Travis may have decided to go for the invalid elements anyways.

Edit: watching the archive, Canadian men really do love Sign of the Times 😭

Hi hi... I have opted against starting a new season's thread for a very obvious reason : I feel that we still haven't heard about all retirements and splits and new partnerships. I will therefore start the new thread when it is confirmed who is going to participate on the GP series. I thought about it and though last year I did start it early in anticipation of the Olympic year with all the spring and summer events, this year, I feel that it would be very depressing to open up a new thread which would include more speculation about retirements or even worse, many new announcements... I hope this makes sense to you all :)

I totally agree. It's only April yet. Much can still happen. In an Olympic year there's less retirements, less speculation. Also less new teams...

There was one PreNovice girl in AB that landed a 3S. I think all the Novice Girls and Junior Girls struggled with their triples. Kaydee fell on all three of her jumps 😭

The highlight skater of the day for me was Kassidy Sinclair. She skated her SP with so much ferocity. 3T 2T, 3S and 2A all well landed…. All three spins at level four 👏. Score was 51.42. Which means that this season she is pushing to try to make Nationals. She missed getting 10% bonus of her 2A by a few seconds. Her step sequence needs some work. But, I’m happy for Kassidy!! She seems like a hard worker.

Kassidy Sinclair

will be hard to make nationals if she doesn't have the harder triples. SP can work out with salchow and toe... but what is she going to do in the LP ?

At Challenge she finished in 27th overall. But, she was in contention in 18th after the SP there (where she skated cleanly, like she did here). However, she had a nightmare free skate there finishing in 30th in that segment. But, she fell on three jumping elements and missed two combos. I think skating the two 2A, 3T, 3S and adding a 2F to her usual backloaded 2F eu 2S combo could do it OR maybe learning the 3Lo and adding that to her repertoire. Four clean triples can sometimes do it. Kassidy is someone who improves little by little. Here, I can tell she improved her skating skills. I believe in Kassidy 🙏

I believe in everyone but I also believe that nowadays, you gotta have more than two triple jumps to make it to nationals.

Not found on the list were also Bombardier-Mimar... but they could be on a lower level list which hasn't been published. With the injuries, they haven't been competing all year so they may have lost their top funding. Or, they may have switched back to Ontario.
Now confirmed that they split :(

Now confirmed that they split :(
Oh, for heaven's sake :palmf:. Makes me think of a joke I read about two children in Hollywood chatting on the first day back at school, and one asks the other what he did during the summer. The other says that his mother got married again and he was in her big wedding. "Who did she marry?" " XY this time." "Oh, you'll like him, we had him year before last."

Huh? I cannot believe Fiona Bombardier & Ben Mimar split. 😮 Is Ben moving on or is he searching for a new hook-up, too? 😳

Now I get why there was a suggestion in another thread that Fiona try out with Thierry Ferland. I don't know, except that Thierry already has a new partner, albeit someone who doesn't have the jumps, despite her lovely lines with Thierry. It might have made sense for Fiona and Thierry to try out when he was looking for a partner previously. But, I am very skeptical of Fiona running through so many partners coupled with the frequency of her injuries. Not a smart way to become successful. OTOH, Fiona had looked so solid with Ben. They were a team I was looking forward to seeing develop. What's up with pairs and ice dance in Canada?!

I think funding issues may be starting to show up. I have never seen that many splits/retirements before in the senior ranks. I hope it's not just related to money but I have some doubts.

Could be a combo of funding and not getting sent out. I mean if you are hurting to finance your skating and then not get sent to any international events, at some point they must question what it is all for. It's a catch 22. Seems you need results to get sent out more but if you don't get sent out more to get seen you won't get great results. GoGo is a prime example of this. He was sent out quite a bit last year and got seen and therefore started to get solid results that lead to his placements at Olympics and Worlds.

Yeah.. very few pairs... I thought that Desroschers/Trasher would still be on that list to be honest.

I think they were deciding whether or not to go Senior for next season at Junior Worlds. So this may be a sign that they're going for the Grand Prix since they should be eligible for a guaranteed spot based on World Standings.

At there level of skating I am not sure Seniors is a good fit for them. Think they will get lost in the shuffle, especially without solid solo jumps. And if they don't get good results how long will they keep skating. They get good PCS in JRs but that will drop in Sr without the big tricks.
