2025-2026 Canadian Figure Skating

I agree with @saine and @Sackie . They only have double jumps and throws are getting better but still not stable.

At the same time, if the new rules are true and pairs can no longer do a three jump combo, that may help them a bit... they could still do something like 2a-2a and 2s and not lose too many points compared to 3t-2a and 3s

Minsol is not on the list. This means she is not competing junior or something else? How long since she competed internationally for Korea? This is getting ridiculous if she not yet released.

From Robert Brodie's interview with Mike Slipchuk:
There is still no official word yet on whether Kwon can skate for Canada this fall — she expressed an interest in the Junior Grand Prix at nationals in Gatineau — but there is an expectation that things will get sorted out on that front before September.

“They’re still working on the clearance with her, so hopefully we’ll have an answer on that soon. With someone like Minsol, if she’s cleared to skate for Canada, that definitely is an asset for us,” said Slipchuk. “So these are things we just need to get a clear picture on before we chart our path.

“I’m not sure about the timeline on that stuff, but it is going through the process, and hopefully we get an answer sooner than later … When skaters are in the program, we then decide where they best fit.”

I really want to see Minsol skating for Canada! maybe KSU do hold onto their skaters for a long time...
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but Robin Cousins on the BBC commentary for Worlds mentioned that Laurin and Ethier are splitting and the Worlds free skate was their last together. He said something along the lines of them seeking other partners or that Kelly Ann Laurin might even choose to focus on her education.

I suppose there may be a chance he's wrongly informed but it really didn't sound like it.
After reading your post, I searched iPlayer and found their skate. You're right! After they finished skating. I'm gutted 😭
But, how did Robin know that? And the Canadian commentators don't??
If it is true, Laurin and Ethier splitting it too bad. They really were coming together and showing promise up until worlds.
It might explain their reaction to their worlds free skate, if they considered it to be their last skate together. Their interview had mainly talked about how well practices had gone.

I am a bit surprised the Sandrine Blais and Megane Vallieres aren't listed.
Megane turns 18 this month, so she is in the 2 years or less eligibility range. The target scores for women with 2 years or less is 167, Megane scored 150.53 at Nationals and 139.46 at Challenge.

Sandrine is in the 3 years or less eligibility range, so her target score should be 147. She scored 145.82 at Nationals and 141.20 at Challenge. She's below it and I don't think Challenge helped her. She could still be invited to the NextGen competition.

Interesting Next Gen names.
Minsol 😭 (she will be on that National Team I hope 🤞)

Where are the BC Pair Teams?

Minsol will be on the National team as she was top 3 at Canadian nationals. So that's automatic.
But, will the eligibilty play a role? If she isn’t eligible to compete for Canada for next season, how can Skate Canada give the National Team spot to a non Canadian?

I hope you are right. I want Minsol to compete for Canada and therefore on the National Team.

I think they will give it to her as she has earned it and that may indeed pressure the KSU into releasing her because everything is done on the Canadian part. I wouldn't be surprised that they are trying to get her off JGP if she hasn't been released yet. Releasing her later would mean only challengers for her or junior Bs.

I hope KSU gets nicer here. For instance, as Hannah and Ye have participated at the Olympics, Korea would need to approve their potential participation for 2030... if indeed they qualify and if indeed they represent another country (ie Canada)

Canada didn't create trouble for France with Lolo... but who knows ?

Also... Laurence Brière and Earl Jesse Celestino... I thought they could be on next gen.. but they aren't. And then I looked at their heights... Unless EJ has grown, that will be a tough one for them. He is apparently 1 cm taller than her only.

Laurence is listed at 168, EJ at 169... Auréa was listed at 162...

They could still be added to NextGen, they'll probably have more Pairs and Ice Dance teams invited to the competition once they've all formed. Callahan/Furman, Cheung/Lee and Quinn Startek were added to NextGen this season after the team had been announced in July.

I don't know Furman's new partner but if they are about the same level Beau and he reached, they would probably be added indeed. Maybe that's why, with the so many new teams, the list is so small with pairs. I was shocked by It to be honest. We have so many spots in pairs and just naming 3 to the team makes no sense.

David S posted what looks to be a death spiral in his Instagram stories from a show at the Gloucester Skating Club, so he may have found a partner.
