2025-2026 Canadian Figure Skating

I'd still love to know what precipitated Fiona & Ben splitting. Is there a relationship connection between Fiona & Loucas? They seemed very happy together in the announcement photo, plus they looked good in the lift training clip. I hope Fiona sticks with Loucas, as she has switched partners often within a short period.
Loucas is dating Ben Mimar's sister if I remember correctly...if that is what you're asking...

I am so out of the loop

It was Deja vu watching this tournament.

You have two skaters competing against one another to determine who has better elements. 4 out of 7 is enough to win. While they are competing, the next two athletes are warming up in the background.

I hope this format doesn’t go beyond this event, as I was not a fan. I like to watch elements within a program. It was mentioned they did this format for Novice, Juniors, and Seniors because of the changes to the rules and not having enough time to prepare programs that follow rule changes.

My reading was that piper and Paul would not be at skate canada
That was my reading as well. They promote their top skaters for each event.

This must mean that P&P are retiring. I was hoping they wouldn’t after the LaLa fiasco. We need a top ten team in Ice Dance first this upcoming season. LaLe is our top dance team at this moment.

This must also mean Maddie is continuing. So, Maddie will get two spots for Grand Prix. Gabby will get the other Skate Canada spot and the third spot will be TBD.

GoGo will obviously continue alongside T&L.

If Skate Canada were sensible, they would have Gogo go elsewhere for his GP events. He will automatically get two spots, and if he goes elsewhere for them then Skate Canada can give host spots to three men. If Gogo does Skate Canada, then that uses one of the host spots and there is one less spot for Canadian men across the GP series as a whole. With the skaters aging out of juniors, you have a lot of decent male skaters and very few GP spots for them. Roman gets one spot based on world standing and, if he doesn't get a second spot outright, will be very high on the replacement list based on SB. However, Aleksa Rakic, Wesley Chiu, David Bondar, Anthony Paradis, and Grayson Long (if he moves up to seniors internationally) are not guaranteed any GP spots and - given the number of high ranking juniors from other countries moving up t seniors - are unlikely to get anything other than a host spot.

If they continue, Piper and Paul would also be best going to other GP events to maximise the number available for Canadian skaters. However, given all the teams which have split, that is perhaps less of an issue than it is for men.

Anthony is not going to be ready recovering from his injury... None of our juniors would have the domestic scores to get a host spot... But I agree that technically, Roman (if not retired) Aleksa and Wesley would be an ideal trio and Gogo could go elsewhere. I think Grayson is still of junior age.

However, I can see Skate Canada wanting to have some "success" at home and having Gogo here may help him build his season.

Piper and Paul have always skated home GPs and Skate Canada would give the second spot to LaLa...

So that's why I thinking that seeing LaLe there is indicative.

I agree with you : some of our skaters should not skate at home and Skate Canada should use the spots smarter... but they have never done so...so why would it change now ?

All I am asking them is to use all their spots...

They need Gogo to draw in a crowd, he is an Olympian and did really well under a lot of pressure.

Also seems like Deanna and Maxime are not continuing as well as Piper and Paul, hope they enjoy their futures outside of competition (unless Deanna continues, would be really interesting).

I'd be thrilled to see Gabby back on the Grand prix

Exactly. With so much starpower retiring/splitting, they need someone to draw a crowd at their home GP.

Could it be that Piper and Paul might just want to try other events. They keep winning SCI with high scores but then drop in score at their next event. Maybe they want to do other GPs to get a real feel for their programs and how they stack up. At SCI they really never seem to be challenged. But I can see them retiring. They have been so close to the top yet the judges have made it clear they are not seen as possible World Champs.
