2025-2026 Canadian Figure Skating

I am pleased for them but still a little worried.... they have not been training for at least a week and then will only have 2 days to train in Italy. Not sure how real result expectations can be at this point.

Honestly when you look at the protocols Stephen should be higher. Our men have always been told they need 2 quads in the short to be competitive, but there are others ahead of him who only have one. Again it probably comes down to him being in his first ever major Senior event. And if he had skated and score like his Team short he probably be skating in the final group.

I totally agree. I was going today for “glass half full”. This Olympics is about building a better reputation for him. And confidence for worlds. Top ten feels like a podium finish 🥇

Here's a substack article by Robert Brodie about everything that happened yesterday:

Also there are a lot of rumours going around about what kind of injury Deanna has/had. I think the important thing is that she's cleared and back on the ice. And as Robert says, if it had been really serious (as some claim), I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have been allowed to travel and compete.

@NoNameFace are you holding up?
Well...it's kind of whiplash experience, mix of different feelings looking at the results at large.
But I hope Piper, Paul, their team are celebrating this bronze as it was gold.
Cried what I needed to cry out, now sort of worrying they'll skip Worlds and I'll never see them live again;)

They'll still do shows

I went into day pretty sure this would not happen for them, and then, it did. Wonderful. The way the final scores worked out, I'm not even sure Lilah's twizzle made all the difference.

Only downside for Canadian ice dance is that I'd be slightly surprised to see them at Worlds now.

The one-quad guys who ahead of him, like Cha, are more polished skaters on the components side. Reputation obviously helps as well.

I was so, so thrilled to wake up to the news that Piper and Paul won the bronze medal!! :D Their performance was amazing, and, frankly, seemed to be the skate of the night. I would have ranked them higher in the FD, to be honest. Anyway, I'm very pleased that all of their hard work, innovation, and wonderful skating were rewarded.

Now we need to figure out how to get LaLa back up the standings. Maybe White Crow was too muted. I found Loporeva/Brissaud messy and boring. Partly the music but LaLa were solidly behind them. I get the rhythm dance music was a miss and a lost opportunity for them. So what would be good vehicles for them to show the judges how good they are? They have so much passion and speed and they can be funny too

Also Carol Lane again made the point the it is critical to get our young dance teams out internationally a lot more to build reputation. Pay attention Skate Canada. More senior Bs should have a Cdn team competing. And forget Lake Placid IMO. It seems a bit biased to me. Or better still let’s have an ice dance senior B here in Canada. I vote Montreal or London (alternating)
