2025-2026 Canadian Figure Skating

Wow absolutely insane. If Steven had skated his short program from the team event in the men's event, he would have comfortably been on the podium. That's crazy of course it's all hypothetical, because if many of the other top contenders had skated their programs from the team event they would have finished way ahead:-)

I thought the judging was pretty much bang on to be honest- I didn't find that the Italian men were grossly over favored or anything, and if anything I thought Steven was a little bit over mark, because he certainly doesn't sell his program as much as others do - although he has definitely improved Leaps and Bounds throughout this competition alone.

But good for him. I'm really sad for Ilia, because although he has never be my favorite, you cannot deny that he has being the most dominant, as well as innovative skater of the last few years, and I think you really did deserve this, particularly given the fact that others didn't rise to the occasion. But man, it is almost impossible to believe that things turned out the way that they did. And probably the saddest thing about all of this is that not so much the Kazakhstan skater won, but that his program is the one that received an Olympic gold medal.

At least he earned it, that's for sure, due to being one of only a couple of skaters to really go for it, but I feel like it is oxymoronic to mention his program in the same breath as Olympic gold medal...

This was without question the shock and upset of the Olympics I do not think it will be topped.

Just got to Stephen's skate in the replay, fifth at the Olympics when he's only had 2023 4CC for senior championship experience is fabulous. It probably helped that expectations were lower for him and he wasn't expected to be in the mix for medals.

Really happy for Gogolev. I was so impressed with his skate today, especially with having to do the whole team event. I’m glad he proved Skate Canada right in making the choice to send him. I’m seeing his name all over comments on social media posts, such a big win for him and Canadian men’s skating. I hope he’s proud of what he’s accomplished and I hope he doesn’t beat himself up over those 1.12 points.

there are plenty of ways he could have gotten there... like spin level, a better PCS in the short, a better loop etc... too bad really.

a friend of mine, musician, a casual fan of figure skating thought he was a better artist and more musical than most skaters seen tonight, including Misha. She wished that it would have been recognized better :). So there you go... I am not pronouncing myself because I am just starting to watch everything.

To me, Misha was a paler version of Ilia. Jumping first, the rest, maybe. So it saddens me that the winner is not a complete skater. I would have been fine with Ilia winning the title with a good skate because at least, he is involved in his skating.. but Misha? wow. Shocking news.

He will be one of the forgotten champions. There are many. Of course, unless he keeps improving and winning.

impossibile !

I just finished watching the free skate.
Damn!! I was so happy when he finished his Skate thinking GoGo is guaranteed a top ten finish. He was so close to beating Shun for the bronze medal. That 3Lo, that spin, that small mistake in the SP, all made a difference. I’m elated at a 5th place finish. But, the fact that he was so close makes the 5th place a bit less enjoyable. GoGo is so solid!!

Keep skating like this at Worlds so we can go back to 2 spots please!! 👏

WOW - Just getting back form dinner here and checked the results. I am in shock. In fact I didn't see Stephen's name at first in the free skate list, cause I was looking further down the list. This really sets Gogo up for worlds. Will have to go and watch some of the performances now. Just think if Stephen had the short he did in the Team event he would have gotten the bronze medal.
I did the exact same thing! I was on my way to a dance class this morning as the event was going on, and I knew that he could be no lower than eighth at that point. When I got out of my class, I looked at that range and was confused to not see his name - only to realize that he placed an amazing second in the FS! He should be so incredibly proud of his four performances at these Olympics. It was a lot to ask of a first-time Olympian, especially after all the struggles that he's had over the past several years, and he put on a show. I hope that his confidence and performance will continue to grow after his successes here. Fantastic job, Stephen!! :D

Here is the interview - Asher mentions the small medal at around 11:30. And just rewatched it and he does mention Olympic Medal. I would hope Asher knows what he is talking about. ;-)
I am just wondering why this is the first time I ever hear about small medals at the olympics.

He talks about it being the ISU, not the IOC, so I think he assumed it would be the same case as the ISU championships. If they did give out small medals, I'm sure Skate Canada would've put pictures of him with it on social media.

Top 8 in all events do get Olympic diplomas though, so Stephen does get two of them (y)

Canada has had a great Olympics so far. Only top five finishes 😜

Team - 5th
Dance - 3rd 😍
Men - 5th
Pairs - ??

Can we get Deanna and Max to a top 5 finish? Lia/Trentt???

I think the injury is actually going to be good for Deanna. I think Deanna suffers from perfectionist syndrome and overtrains, which is why she gets sick so often. I think for her, having the mentality of being just happy to be there, will be a good thing, performance wise.
