2025-2026 Canadian Figure Skating

Protocols indicate a q on Megan's 3t. That didn't help either. I was wondering how one mistake killed her Q but it was in fact more than that.

Rotation issue negating the GOE on the combo, the fall and then a low lever 2 on the steps. Considering it was tight, it was too much to handle. However, though I didn't check the event, it seems like both Estonian skaters also had their share of mistakes but both qualified. I guess home worlds may have helped here but I am fine to be corrected if indeed those who watched the event believe that they were scored fairly. Hopefully, pairs will be better for Canada.
I'm shocked that her 3T got a q.

Our junior pairs really brought it !!!!

Nobody skated perfectly and the favourites, the Chinese team really had issues. But Ava/Yoni and Jazzy/Kiki limited mistakes and brought gold and silver to Canada ! Bravo ! So happy.

Also Julia and Étienne finished a respectable 9th place.

Both Estonians were ahead on the strength of PCS, and fwiw I think the few extra points there were deserved.

it's quite possible. as I said, I didn't have a chance to watch it yet. however, a skater with two falls is supposed to be heavily penalized on the PCS.. even if they are stronger so that's all I noticed by looking at protocols. I have seen these skaters before and I don't find them at the level of the Koreans nor the Japanese in terms of PCS

Hopefully this gets K/E two outright GP assignments next season. They are currently 24th on the SB list and regining world Jr Champions. I hope SC uses their brains and doesn't give them a host spot upfront. They should be able to get two on their own.

Save those host spots for those who need them.

Unsurprising but still sad result for Junior Women. Victoria would've been around 13-15th with an average skate for her, and potential to push into the top 10 if others bobbled. As someone else said, Reese would likely have at least made the free (although her JGP SP was super rough so maybe not), possibly Quinn too. Cannot fathom why SC made the decisions it did.

On the plus side, thrilled for the pairs teams! Ava and Yoni I can see having a pretty smooth transition to seniors. Jazzy and Kieran may struggle a bit with the jump/throw inconsistencies but they're such a stylish team. And I just love Julia and Etienne, though I think her age means they're getting booted to seniors too? Or do they have one more year?

They do have one more season, as they also raised the upper limit for the women in pairs :)

Jazmine and Kieran, as well as Ava and Yohnatan, also technically have another Junior-eligible season, but I think this is their safest bet at getting a Sr GP assignment outside of host spots, especially because some pairs who are guaranteed spots will retire.

Like you said, Reese had a rough short on her JGP, she wouldn't be guaranteed to qualify either. And I like Quinn, but I doubt she would have made the cut. She's done well as a first year Junior, but I think they made the right call in not sending her. She has only had one international competition total. With more than half the skaters not qualifying for the free, it would have been tough for her to qualify. She should get the chance for more experience.

It's a shame Victoria wasn't able to go as initially assigned. It is what it is though.

It’s great they got medals, however, I find it a little embarrassing it’s possible to get medals with so many errors. Oh well, nobody was error free. I thought the Ukrainian team should have placed higher. I didn’t see their short so don’t know what happened there. Canada top teams in juniors are almost seniors. Idk how they will make the next steps, maybe I am being to pessimistic

First Canadian pair to win Junior Worlds since 1978!

Not their best performance in the free, but they got the job done. And for a team that has had a history of underperforming at big events, this was undoubtedly a great result that will hopefully boost their confidence.

Jazmine & Kieran continue to be so aesthetically pleasing, but the pace of progression on their jump/throw elements is not terribly fast.

Ukrainians popped a jumping pass and did double throws

Also, the Canadian teams still have one year of junior eligibility which is not the case for the Ukrainian team.

Wow. I learned something! (There are lots of retired Russian army officers in Estonia)
  • Non-biometric Passports: Estonia has stopped recognizing non-biometric passports issued by Russia, meaning they cannot be used to cross land, air, or sea borders.
  • Exceptions for Residents: Holders of an Estonian or EU residence permit with a non-biometric Russian passport have a transition period until September 30, 2025, to obtain a biometric passport.
  • Visa/Entry Restrictions: Since September 2022, most Russian citizens with short-stay Schengen visas are prohibited from entering Estonia via the external border for tourism, leisure, or sports.
  • Allowed Entry Categories: Entry is permitted for Russian citizens visiting close family (spouses, children, parents) who are Estonian citizens or long-term residents, those involved in international transport, and for humanitarian reasons.
  • Vehicle Restrictions: As of September 2023, vehicles with Russian registration plates are prohibited from entering Estonia.
  • A biometric passport, or e-passport, is a traditional paper passport with an embedded electronic microprocessor chip. This chip stores the holder's personal details (name, DOB), a digital photograph, and biometric data like fingerprints or iris scans, which are used to verify identity and significantly reduce forgery and identity theft.

Victoria had the correct visa though. This was just a weird Skate Canada decision (that unfortunately negatively impacts all the Canadian junior women next year :( ).
As per the post above, which is from the Junior Worlds general info and pre-game chat thread, a visa is no longer enough.
