2025-2026 Canadian Figure Skating

Robert Brodie's Worlds recap for today

He had this about Maddie:
As to what comes next for Schizas after tour season is over … in her words, “we’ll see about that. It’s still up in the air.” And from everything we’ve heard this season, that’s a pretty accurate response. There might be a next season of competition, but she also has more school ambitions (Schizas will graduate from McMaster University in Hamilton in May with an undergraduate degree in Environment and Society). So as she says, we’ll see.

Be nice if she did another season, but only if she feels she can do it it. Be nice to see her lay down a couple great international skates before she retires. But if her heart is not in it then retiring is best.

As long as her heart is into it, I will support her. I feel terrible for her that she cannot skate to her abilities. It's clear that she has beautiful jumps and can land all of them. She is not a skater with tech challenges. At the same time, she's represented well and if she wants to focus on her "after skating life". I support that too.

4th is cruel but what is awesome is how he fought as some of the landings were without much speed, yet he managed his combos.

this was an incredible performance considering he skated just after yuma.

Canada will have 2 spots next year and that's awesome

Now, time for our ice dancing teams to keep their 3 spots.

I’m most nervous for LaLa (I want them to move up a spot past the American team) 🙏

Also, P&P don’t have mileage with this free dance. It is my favourite program from them. But, I’m going to be nervous watching the levels. It is a risk and I’m both nervous, but, excited!!

I was nervous at first but then, if they didn't feel comfortable with it, they could have gone back to Vincent or even w/d ... and they are hear with it so it must be good

I'm sure they'll be reset with the rule changes next season, but Gogo also now holds the Senior Men's Canadian record with his score at Worlds (y)
Constantly reset of course.. I think Patrick's score under the +3 goe is still higher right ? asking for a friend :)

They can't get the records right, they have his listed as 267.61 at 2012 Nationals, but his PB is 295.27 at the 2023 GP Trophee Bombard :bang::palmf:

Oh well, I'm looking forward to Challenge where everyone can set a new Canadian record and hold it for 5 minutes.

Edit - His score at 2012 Nationals was actually 302.14 :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang:

I knew Patrick passed 300 at least once. And perhaps also at 4cc when he returned... Nah. Only 290 ;)

I dream that Ilia Malinin finishes his career in another world championship at Montreal, just a matter of coming full circle that he would have won his first and last world championships in Montreal. It's unlikely to happen. But I can certainly dream that it's possible. Who knows ?

I had seen him at ACI in Pierrefonds before worlds... so if Montreal doesn't get worlds again, maybe they could revive ACI :)
