2025-26 Coaching, Country and Discipline Changes

Nina Pinzarrone posted on her instagram that she won't be coached by Ans Bocklandt any longer. No info on who the new coach will be.
I hope she finds someone who can help her address her underrotations. I do wonder whether sher and Ans agreed previously to part the ways after finishing the Olympic cycle together, because splitting from her coach after the biggest achievement of her career so far, just does not make a lot of sense.

I thought maybe Ans wants to focus on her daughter more since she is a Junior now, but that's just a guess. To me it also doesn't make a lot of sense.

My guess is Nina might be changing the country, maybe studies or something like that, but she wants to keep it in secret so far, maybe is changing the country for some reason but does not know yet who the coach is? Just guessing, but this is often a reason.

This is probably way off base, but for some reason I'm thinking Benoit Richaud as her new coach.

Paul Ayer is a Mexican citizen now

this makes some sense... still hurt but I guess he wants to represent Mexican ice dance... He's half Mexican if I recall correctly. As 4th place finisher from 4CC, Skate Canada may make him wait a bit for his release though.
So Mexico, should they have a judge, will become another IAM judge ;)

Unfortunately it comes at the expense of splitting a very good ice dance team. So, I wish it didn't take that much to give Mexican skating more representation.

I guess not making the Olympic team this year was tough for Fabbri-Ayer, especially since making the free dance in 2025 did secure that third spot for Canada.

So Paul is splitting up, getting a new citizenship (which wasn't too hard for him with his background) and probably has someone in mind to team up with and represent Mexico. We will find out soon enough.

I am happy for him. I am happy for Mexican skating but I am not happy at all about the split.

There are a lot of Canadian skaters who have jumped ship in the hope of making the Olympics and it didn't always work out.

Just a few examples :
Laurence didn't manage to represent Denmark. (no citizenship)
Edrian Paul Celestino didn't manage to get his needed mins scores/qualify to represent the Philippines.
Carolane and Shane didn't qualify to represent Ireland.

It's not guaranteed, unless Paul has already found the perfect partner who is skilled enough, a good match for him and already has citizenship that it will work out. Anyways.

I'm genuinely interested why you think Skate Canada may hold him back. I mean they set a precedence with the swift release of F-B last year, and he did not even had the results she had with her ex-partner, holding him back longer than the 1 year waiting period if he indeed aims to represent Mexico, would be a choice and I can't figure out what the reason would be.

Canada's policy is that skaters need to wait 2 years if they have participated in 4CC or Worlds within a certain time period. Laurence F-B hadn't competed for a while, so she was okay. Corey Circelli was made to wait 2 years. Soucisse and Firus had to fight to get their release.

F-B's last competition with ex-partner were 2024 Worlds (finishing 2nd at 4CC's the same year), she sat out 2024/2025 season due to well known reason. Her first intended international competition with new partner was 2025 Nebelhorn Trophy where she was already free to compete. If Skate Canada indeed has a policy of 2 years, instead of a year for athletes participating in Worlds/4CCs, it's interesting to know that they have now twice violated their own policies when it comes to F-B.

Brooke McIntosh was competing for Spain last season almost as soon as she had finished sitting out her year. I don't think the policy has been applied strictly since Soucisse/Firus went to SDRCC to get their release.

like it's been answered already : Skate Canada had a 2 year policy for those who have competed at worlds or 4CC. However, it's not certain that they still are strict considering that Soucisse-Firus fought them about it. I am guessing they may not but then, I wouldn't be surprised if Paul had to sit out the entire season, not just the 1 year since last competition.
With Laurence, considering France was quick in releasing Vanessa James, and that they back and forth allowed Lauriault-Le Gac without too many problems (as much as it appears to a non-insider fan like me) there may be a willingness from both Feds to work well together.
I have no idea how Skate Canada will deal with this one as depending on retirements, Alicia and Paul could have been by far Canada's number 2 team (if LaLe and P2 do not come back). So it's a very big blow for the depth of ice dance in Canada.
