2025-26 Japanese Women's Figure Skating

I'm kinda gutted for rika kihira. 😭 practicing the quad really hurt her. Or was it the triple axel that hurt her foot?
It was likely the lutz. I remember even before the pandemic started it was a big news that she took out most or all of the 3Lz from her layout in early 2019-2020.

Injuries have been a constant for Rika since she turned senior, but things got worse when the quad girls from Russia started competing. I think it was both Mie Hamada’s and Rika’s fault — due to their training methods and the poor decisions that led to the problems she has been dealing with in recent seasons

Its amazing to think how much the Russians ended up hurting Rika and to a lesser extent Wakaba, and actually greatly helped Sakamoto's career.

That's true. Rika was the real threat to the Russian ladies, but it came at the cost of her health. When she got injured, that's when the federation started pushing Sakamoto internationally. With the Russians absent, the most benefited skater was Sakamoto, thanks to her consistency and quality of skating.

Even before Rika was injured the Fed was pushing inflated GOE and PCS for Kaori to keep Nationals competitive, especially once it was obvious Kaori had no chance at landing any ultra c element.

What version of romeo and juliet do we hope mone chiba uses? Prokofiev, the leo dicaprio film version, the hailee steinfeld film version, the 1960s film version, or a combination of all of these?

Based on clips from open practice, it seems like it’s a mix of the 2013 version (A Thousand Times Goodnight) and I believe she said she’s also using I’m Kissing You (Des’ree). Very Mariko Kihara

I personally wish she would’ve used a mix of Nino Rota and Prokofiev like Rin Nitaya did! But her short program is a more intense version of Sakura Sakura so I understand wanting a slower piece for the free

Higuchi in the last one makes sense since both her GPs are in the second half of the season.

Takeuchi-san said they may assign more skaters to Kinoshita Group Cup CS after the NHK Trophy selection this weekend (!):

I really really hope Mako will get NHK or at least the Kinoshita CS.

JSF what's your issue with her she's been consistent in all her competitions last season and 6th at Nationals, she deserves so much more :angry2:

NHK is by selection, so either Mako wins the spot outright or she does well and gets assigned to Kinoshita CS.

Mako's problem is always the ranking points + world standings... JSF can't spare money to send her internationally because they have many skaters higher in the WS, so whenever she does well she gets the ones with less benefits.

Will the NHK selection event have any results or will JSF just give us the assignments?
In the previous years, we'll know through the assignments, including additional ones (Koshiro Shimada got Lombardia in 2022 after coming behind Sota Yamamoto who got the NHK spot). No results since it's behind closed doors.

FYI-
The NHK spot selection should be held today (Jul 27). Yes, it's closed doors, and we won't get to know the results until the assignments are announced later on.

And BTW, this selection happens to be in overlap with the Jr. skaters (JGP) national training camp. So some news reports were released yesterday, including:
- Mao Shimada is attempting 4S
- Yo Takagi is trying out 3A

Does anyone know when Rika Kihira will have her first competition this season ?
I don't want to miss that :)
